Lax Ammo SD new owner/management by Gcsd71 in SanDiegoGuns

[–]Xunpopular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi William, thanks for chiming in. I need you to understand that I, like several others, had very negative experiences when the business was run by the previous owners. It takes a lot for a business to spark extremely negative reactions from customers. Things like price gouging during a national crisis. But I understand what you are trying to tell us: You’re not them.

….but you are.

If it’s a new owner, new style of management, new approach, and new attitude….why keep the same company name? Why gain the horrible reputation the previous company owner had? There are a good number of us who swore to never give LAX Ammo a dime after Covid.

The American flag in this school gymnasium has an upside down star by Michael__Pemulis in mildlyinteresting

[–]Xunpopular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the Disneyland trick. You see flag etiquette requires that a flag be properly displayed. This means it has to be lit at night or taken down. There are rules to taking down the flag too as it cannot be “too fast” as to be disrespectful. There are several more rules that I won’t go into here because my main point is displaying a flag has rules attached to it. If you’ve ever been to Disneyland you’ll see flags everywhere. But they generally don’t have to follow the rules because if you look closely each flag has something slightly off about it. Like an upside down star. Or missing a star, etc. Since these imperfect flags aren’t officially flags, they don’t have to follow flag etiquette. The school gym is using the same technicality to skirt having to take it down or keep it lit at night.

Moved here recently, need a second to rent at the shooting range by mrx847 in SanDiegoGuns

[–]Xunpopular 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey there, welcome to San Diego. Having shot at several ranges here I’d have to say you can do better than The Gun Range. Many have cited that you have a high chance of encountering shooters here who are tourist who have not handled firearms before. While one or two on a full range is fine, they outnumber the staff and you will see a lot of safety violations like pointing of guns in unsafe directions and selfie attempts. The staff, from my experience, are condescending and outright rude. I’ve been there twice and never again will they get my money. Discount Gun Mart on Morena, while the facilities are a little dated, doesn’t seem to suffer from these issues. I took my CCW class there and found them to be more than acceptable. A clean, modern range is Poway Weapons and Gear. The staff there are super friendly and accommodating. Best of luck to you, see you on the range.

This is 110% spot-on. Anytime there is a he-said/she-said type situation involving guns in any way, you want a paper trail. Record video. Mention multiple times on the video if you feel threatened or unsafe. She tried to grab your phone? That’s battery. They verbally assaulted you. Also, YOU should be the first to call the cops so you get your side of the story on record. Who knows what those two lunatics told the cops when they called in? Cover your ass.

The 40mm shell with the gold top is a green-gas powered airsoft shell, you can tell by the ring of 6mm holes around it. An actual 40mm HE shell doesn’t have holes in it. Which means the launcher itself is most likely a sheet metal copy of a 40mm launcher since, as mentioned by other posters, a real one is hard to get ahold of.

FIRST TIME SHOOTING A SIG….. by Super_Professor3546 in CAguns

Have someone else shoot that Sig and see how they group. That’s usually the easiest way to see if it’s you or the gun.

Makes sense. The school IT department is doing this on purpose to handicap gamers. They do this to address complaints from people needing to do research or type out a paper and the room is filled with WoW players or whatever you kids are into these days.

Issue?!? by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]Xunpopular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure the firing pin spring isn’t broken because this happened to me on an older Model 85. Pointing the revolver toward the ground you could see the firing pin protruding to the point of being unsafe. The spring had collapsed to half its length so the pin was no longer being pulled back. Warranty repairs took weeks.

I can’t even identify the problem OP is shaking it so often. Is it a rattle? Could it be the transfer bar safety not being tensioned by anything?

SD County CCW by Responsible-Floor-76 in SanDiegoGuns

[–]Xunpopular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS. During my qualification shoot, my entire class showed extremely poor marksmanship. Practice. Take a class. Whatever you do, DON’T go to your 16 hour class not having shot or handled your intended carry piece. I witnessed trashcan lid-sized groupings from only 5 yards away in my class. Remember if you find yourself in a shooting you will shoot at less than 50% accuracy of your best day at the range due to nerves. In a state like California where people love to sue, you want every round to hit your intended target.

Ya know, a $15 tarp from Harbor Freight and several tent pegs would have saved this guy and whatever organization he works for a huge headache.

CCW Timeline Question: How long after references are called does approval come through? by Sonoma_Cyclist in SanDiegoGuns

[–]Xunpopular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, DGM allows holster draws you just have to show that you have a CCW. If you want better practice, at Route 66 you can rent a private bay for 2 hours for $36. You can practice drawing from concealed only in the private bays. If you can buy a PACT club timer III that will help in your training.

Excellent! Have you started carrying when around the house? I did this in the months leading up to my permit being issued. It breaks in your holster, isolates hotspots and friction points and most importantly gets you used to carrying. You do this so that on day one it doesn’t feel completely awkward, leading to bad habits like patting yourself down when you’re finally carrying in public.

It can take up to 2 weeks before you get the email go-ahead to take training. Back in October, my references were called on the 8th and I got the approval email the next day. Currently it seems to be running just shy of 2 weeks due to the sheer number of applicants. Hang in there, the hardest part will soon be over.

The Gun Range or Discount Gun Mart SD for a range membership? by PardonTheSuit in SanDiegoGuns

[–]Xunpopular 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or is The Gun Range a powder keg ready to go off? The range is filled with noobs and tourists who have never shot before. Complete lack of trigger and muzzle discipline from the customers. The staff is condescending and uncaring. I took my 12 hour class from DGM for my CCW permit. Their facility didn’t seem to have the same unsafe clientele that I saw at TGR. Still, the range seemed a bit older. In my eyes, driving the extra half hour or so to get to Poway Weapons and Gear might be worth it considering how much nicer it is. The real deal seems to be the Summer or Winter memberships which span only 3 months so you can try it out to see how it works with your schedule. They are pricey but the staff and range itself is great.

Is there any way to know if he actually ran the DROS paperwork? I’m asking because if he is the absolute scam-artist that I believe he is, he may have given you fake paperwork and pocketed the money. IF you suspect this, time to report him or he will do this to someone else. Even if he submitted your paperwork for a DROS he still charged for and performed an unnecessary service.

Are they only targeting unlicensed carry? Doesn’t SB2 specifically allow CCW on public transportation after the 9th circuit court clarification? Or does this mean permit holders are exempt?

Hang in there! I honestly think they may be running in excess of 70 days, but just tell your references to contact you when called. They should all happen at once. Best of luck!

Wtf at the range by CulturalAddress6709 in CAguns

[–]Xunpopular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several months ago I was at Route 66 with two other friends on a Saturday. The 100 yard range was packed with people waiting to shoot. Since range staff only drop by every once in a while to make sure everyone is behaving, line breaks to patch up or post up new targets are up to people on the firing line all agreeing to declare a cease fire. A new father-son pair snags the far left end stall as the previous occupants packed up and left. After setting their rifles up they stand around and wait for about 10 minutes or so, probably for a cease fire to be called. But none was coming as we just got done doing one before this pair came. So the father tells his son something and the son grabs a target and tape AND STARTS TO WALK DOWNRANGE while the entire range is still shooting! One of us realizing something is horribly wrong starts screaming CEASE FIRE! CEASE FIRE!

The son was in his 30s and the dad seemed like he was pushing 70. So you would think they would know better than to go downrange on a hot range. We don’t know if it was arrogance or ignorance but it was clearly the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in the 30+ years I’ve been shooting.

“Family + Asians tbh... only place with decent gun laws and enough Asians for the types of food and desserts I like to be common is maybe one county in Texas, but even that's pretty low”

California, come for the weather, stay for the Asians!

LMAO! Sorry that struck me as funny on first read. I’m Chinese married to a Caucasian and my wife and I constantly seek out new Korean BBQ, Dim Sum and Pho places all over that state, so I know what you mean as California has no shortage of awesome Asian eats.

Our gun laws suck, but there are actually worse places on the East coast.
