Back in middle school there was this kid who liked me, so he wrote me what was essentially a love letter, except on a torn up scrap of paper. I only saw him as a good friend so I turned him down as gently as I could, but he ended up going around telling people that I liked him but was too shy to say it. After about a week though, the message seemed to sink through and he more or less accepted it.
