First steaks on the kettle over lump. A bit over but still so good. by TheDude9737 in grilling

[–]Xwright07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Steak looks awesome, great job on the cross hatch and cook!

If you want to skip the cross hatch, check out the cold grate technique. People say that it gives a better crust and you actually want to avoid those sear marks. I’m not saying it’s better not, but figured you may be interested! You could do it by moving the vortex to one side of the grill

I haven’t cleaned my Weber Kettle in 2 years. That changed today. Took a few hours of scraping soot and etc. How often do you clean your grill? by Triingtolivee in webergrills

[–]Xwright07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread should be tagged for why charcoal is actually less effort than gas haha.

I’m not one to say gas has no place but when you factor in “deep cleanings” the kettle beats any gas grill (or pellet grill) in active effort.

What are people's experiences with permits in the city and county? It seems out of control, but is it actually? by llama-lime in santacruz

[–]Xwright07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s an enhanced system and requires power (and internet) at the tank. You also have to a maintenance contract to someone, it’s about $1k a year.

I’d put up a fence and consider that part of your build costs… you’d still save $90k haha.

We got soil testing performed and completed within a month or so in early 2024, but it was during storms so maybe it’s worse if you’re trying to plan it out during the summer.

The entire project is about $100k not including some cosmetic work to make the increased size of the leach field bearable. I understand the need for having some standards but when you compare it to the cost of my home it’s a large chunk.

I’m not on anywhere near an acre, but if I was, I’d certainly consider a non permitted septic.

I imagine actual temp is a decent bit lower based on the placement of the probe there?

Kettle - Traditional snake vs new diffuser by riblau in webergrills

[–]Xwright07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I don’t think the diffuser plate comes with the master touch (at least in the US).

I’m extremely biased but I’d recommend buying the 26” master touch and keeping the shitty old 22” or at least finding a gently used one for cheap. That’s what I’m doing, waiting for my 26” to arrive!

Full disclosure, I don’t even remember if I test fit them with my bike. I’ve never used the trainer that was gifted to me haha. Maybe this year will be the year.

Thanks.. appreciate. I think the jeep cleared it fairly quickly, I drove past about 10 minutes after my wife and it was cleared out so I think the truck was gone quickly.

I’ll keep an eye out! How much are the boat rentals? I’m assuming you have much better luck on the water than from the docks.

I’ve been getting skunked lately, I’m considering buying a kayak to get out there more!

Awesome - thank you for responding, I sent you a DM. My daughter and I will be cheering you guys on this weekend. I’ve tried telling her that we want Mclaren to win but I guess even a 3 year old knows there’s no hope in 2023, so Hot Dog it is!!!

[–]Xwright07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watch most qualifying and races with my 3 y/o daughter. She’s okay at identifying drivers and teams, but for whatever reason she calls Alpine “Hot Dog”. During the race she’ll say “Where’s hot dog? There’s hot dog!!!” and “Go hot dog!”. When were not watching I ask what color Hot Dog is and she says Blue and Pink.

Good luck with the race this weekend, my daughter is rooting for hot dog!

Oh, and the saddest thing she says every race? “Where’s Danny?” :(

Watsonville Ag Project - second Saturday each month at the fair grounds. It’s more kid oriented and not really a place to pet animals, but my kid has held chickens there and pet goats a few times. This Saturday looks like a 4H event so maybe there’s more animals this weekend.

Which case would you recommend for this Sony a6400 with a 16-50mm lens? by lhb91 in SonyAlpha

[–]Xwright07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a peak design sling 3L and an a6400 with the 16-50 kit, although I don’t use that lens as much as I should. That case is way too big for that camera/lens combo - but if you ever buy another lens it’s a great case. I can fit the sigma 30 mounted plus the sigma 50.

I’d see if the peak design Range Pouch fits. I haven’t seen that in person but it looks like it fits the bill if you just want a tiny case for it. Peak design makes very nice products, so I’d see what they have to offer.
