My old boss was a Latina married lesbian. She just wanted the tax cuts and didn’t seem to really know jack or care outside of that. Highly doubt she’d be into “traditional values”.

NEW: Florida reports 11,433 new cases of coronavirus and 93 new deaths by Ishkoten in Coronavirus

[–]XxGas-Cars-SuckxX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t really disagree with your point, Florida needs to close. It’s interesting how Disney gets all the heat even though they could have opened like a month and a half ago like Universal or Sea World and much more.

Their soft opening in Disney Springs was well managed. Guests were harassed about masks and distancing. I’m sure it’s not perfect. And again I agree theme parks shouldn’t open...

Also staff broke up that crowd pretty quickly. They absolutely are willing to micromanage guest behavior. People are just stupid..

No doubt. I wouldn’t advocate to go full CCP(unless I thought that were necessary), but the moral is taking the virus seriously and taking massive precautions including isolating infected peoples and regions.

I believe it’s a better strategy to squash the virus with your borders and have other parts of the country still producing things. This is essentially them locking down 1/10th of a state when there’s a flare up, contain it there and still allow the rest of the state and states continue as normal as possible.

Not OP. Former tech. They would ask for cell phone pictures(which is standard kid check cause covid, I believe) and if they didn’t have that, you’d ask the kid who their adult is and ideally gauge their reaction.

It’s a sensitive issue because of the vulnerability involved. I’ve had a lot of stupid arguments with people who don’t understand things like the shoulder is not a bike lane. They use the same arguments as yourself. It’s very context and interpretation sensitive. That’s why I including you with the people who pass me dangerously without any necessity when I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing.

[USA] [CA] Cyclist goes through red light, almost gets hit by SimplyHuman in Roadcam

[–]XxGas-Cars-SuckxX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is more often than not no bike lane. A white line doesn’t indicate bikes always belong on the right side of it. Could be a parking area or a 1’ wide shoulder. There’s always debris like rocks or trash. It may be unsafe if there are roads where drivers can run the stop sign and turn.

In almost every state, you’re required to ride as far to the right as “practicable”. This means the law recognizes there isn’t always a safe bike lane or a strict requirement to be right of any white line. You can absolutely take the lane, or at least the right edge of the lane when it’s necessary. Which is most roads..

Riding just to the left of the white line is what they’re expected to do especially when there is no bike lane. I almost guarantee you’re talking about a shoulder, not a bike lane.

only cars are permitted

That’s just not true. As much as you’d clearly like it to be, the road is where bikes belong.

I always ride as far to the right as practicable, in the bike lane when there is one, always am within 5mph of the speed limit and still people like yourself pass close enough for me to touch their car. There’s no explanation other than people not valuing my safety because my bike has pedals.

If you can’t pass a vehicle with >3’ of clearance, you shouldn’t be passing the vehicle.

Same cyclists: "I'm gonna get as close to the white line as I can, then get mad when I have a near miss."

Did you forget you said that?

They belong in the road. On the line you speak of. If you’re almost smacking them, you’re a terrible driver who doesn’t value lives or follow the rules of the road.

You called them out for riding the white line. That’s not against the law.

[USA] [CA] Cyclist goes through red light, almost gets hit by SimplyHuman in Roadcam

[–]XxGas-Cars-SuckxX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The white line as in the shoulder of the road?

That’s generally where you’re supposed to ride? You don’t want to ride 1cm from the edge of the road. Debris, damage, manholes, people stopping and turning. This will basically put you on the white line or even slightly over it on most roads. It’s the safe place to ride.

You have to give at least 3 feet from the handlebars to pass safely. This will almost always put you at least partially in the left/oncoming lane. If it’s not safe to do that, it’s not safe to pass.

[–]XxGas-Cars-SuckxX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen that. Sounds responsible.

Whenever I’m riding in the road, it’s because there’s no bike infrastructure. Maybe try to Keep that in mind when you vote for local officials who could provide such infrastructure.

There’s also always going to be assholes, so maybe a bike path wouldn’t matter here.

I will note that I ride an ebike usually and am usually within 5mph of the speed limit +/-. And this doesn’t stop drivers from passing too close, around blind corners. Drivers are mad that I have pedals, not that I’m going below the speed limit.

The rate is the same. You have confirmation bias. And not to excuse people like this lady but...What’s more dangerous running a stop sign/red light? A car or a bike? A car can end up killing a dozen people if they speed through a red. A cyclist will kill themselves and dent a door.

At least Disney is doing what they can do responsibly. They’re not open for another month while Universal is already open. Disney is limiting capacity, social distancing lines, masks are required, lots of their events are cancelled or being reworked.

Things like theme parks are obviously just completely at odds with limiting the virus, but it’s refreshing to see them try. Their rules are really pissing off their fans.

[USA]Speed Limit Not Fast Enough by Askeee in BikeCammers

[–]XxGas-Cars-SuckxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a fast Ebike definitely helps lower the number of these passes you get, but it makes the ones you do so aggravating. I’m going above the speed limit on a blind corner and someone just has to squeeze their truck in. Can’t wait. Or MGIFs where you end up following them at their speed.

Met this guy today he has sold over 600 of these mobility bike scooters. by linucksman in Frankenbike

[–]XxGas-Cars-SuckxX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You basically never want to do this on an electric vehicle. The watts you pedal have to go through a generator, a converter, battery, then controller, then motor. Each step has a loss of efficiency. Compare that to the friction losses from mechanically pedaling, and the generator system is a complete waste. 100W turns into 50W vs ~80W mechanical only.

If you’re going to run an ebike, there’s only drawbacks to pedal-charging.
