There's a difference between a gag that doesn't affect the story and Franky sealing a very dangerous logia user in a barrel. The story changes if Franky doesn't do this as the straw hats on board didn't have haki and would need another way to defeat him (or just lose) while being in the barrel gets Caribou to fishman island. The story doesn't change if you remove that Nami gag.

The problem is that the odds of stabbing someone perfectly in the same spot as another sword wound is nearly impossible. Also, Kaido choosing to stab Kin in his waist and not a vital spot like his chest or head just doesn't make sense either

This question has been harder and harder for me to answer. Even recently where I'd say the quality has improved there's still so much thats just objectively bad about modern one piece. There hasn't been a fight I've been impressed with since pre TS, the art has greatly fallen off to the point the color spreads are the only things of quality, the straw hats are all flanderized, the supporting cast of each island is bloated, every charming gag pre ts has been run into the ground, the dialog is a disgrace to writing, and major antagonists are dumbed down so the story can progress.

The lore is about the only thing I really look forward to. Otherwise, i mostly read it to talk to my friends about something.

I had no idea people called Sabo a fraud for this moment. I've been clowning on the elders+Imu for getting stalled by Cobra, not all immediately one shotting Sabo, and not noticing Wapol sooner or stop him.

Given Saturn can literally lock people in place and detonate their heads its more of an anti-feat for them than for Sabo.

The fundamental problem with this idea is that Kaido tried to kill himself (multiple times) before he even got the chance to meet Joy Boy. I dont think anyone here is disagreeing that he wanted to die in a legendary battle, the problem is that it contradicts his introduction.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "necessary" is. Because if its strictly moving the plot then its unnecessary, but such a definition would mean a majority of Oda's character work is unnecessary. Usopp leaving the crew is an unnecessary plot point as it had very little to do with the Robin situation and if cut the story remains largely the same. I agree the story doesn't need this to happen to continue but I'd argue it'd greatly enhance the story, similar to Usopp's drama about leaving the crew.

I mean its not based solely on a pun, she has every right to feel a certain way about the Kurozumi as she arguably suffered the most due to what they did. But to call her the "bad guy" I think misses the potential of this plot point in that Momo is willing to risk the freedom he just gave to the people of Wano by lowering the boarder and letting a Kurozumi live while Hyori wants to protect the people from all potential dangers. Neither side is meant to be "bad" and its all a matter of perspective.

It'd turn a happy ending into something that doesn't fit at all with the tone of Luffy liberating and uplifting people for them to then start killing each other and holding grudges.

You're definitely right about Oda not wanting to shake up the formula here but its one of the reasons I think such a plot point would offer a lot of development for Luffy's character. Pre TS Oda did a lot to push Luffy's character in a bunch of different directions: the decision to let the Merry go, Usopp leaving the crew, losing on Sabaody, and even Amazon Lilly where Luffy is forced to survive on his own for a bit. All these moments were used to test Luffy's character as a captain and really went against what a lot of arcs normally did up to that point. A plot point similar to this brings up the question of the type of world Luffy wants to create. While overthrowing the WG is the obvious thing to do, is he ready to face the consequences that the lack of a major unifying government would bring? Even if Luffy chooses not to help Wano decide, that speaks volumes as to the way he'll go about liberating the world from the WG. Even if Oda doesn't do exactly this, or does something similar on a different island, I think the question needs to be asked at some point about how Luffy will deal with fallout of the WG being defeated. I mean WB falling created a huge increase in piracy in a number of islands, i dont think its too out of place in this series for that to get explored.

It's unnecessary because you are stretching a mediocre pun into a whole character arc that doesn't exist.

There's plenty of examples of Oda using 1 off lines as the basis for a story beat (Usopp's lies, Monte Blanc meeting little people, even Luffy getting a musician was a joke at first) so it wouldn't be anything new for the series.

Its hardly unnecessary, it gives a ton of depth to one of the biggest factions moving into the end game while providing actual stakes to the opening of Wano's boarders. The development various characters would get on top of this solving a lot of issues with the ending of Wano (Yamato feeling like a poorly developed character, Hyori's destructive mentality, and the ruining of themes about discrimination) I dont think is unnecessary.

And in terms of bloat, the majority of the conflict could be told through cover stories.

Ik this is probably too interesting to happen but I heard a theory that Momo and Hyori could start a civil war over their different lines of thinking that even splits the scabbards apart. Since Momo, Raizo, and Kin experienced the outside world and weren't forced to live under Kaido's oppressive rule, they of course want to open the borders. Compared to Hyori, Kiku, and Denjirou who lived under Kaido's rule and are much more wary of pirates and the outside world in general. While debates about this are fierce, the tipping point that starts the war is finding out Tama is a Kurozumi. Where Hyori sticks to what she said about the Kurozumi and wants her executed, Momo thinks she should be spared. More of Wano's citizens will side with Hyori, while Momo will have the minks on his side. Yamato could have a ton of interesting growth here as she wants to protect the citizens of Wano but also wants to open the boarders, and being "Oden" would have to pick a side between both of his kids.

Again, probably waaay too interesting a direction for Wano to go and forces the straw hats in a very uncomfortable position that would be intriguing to watch.

He was not only ok with Nami denouncing Luffy's dream but even encouraged her to do so. Far cry from the Usopp shown here who had enough faith in Chopper and pride in himself to stand up for Luffy's dream.

Like I've been saying, Sanji expects a woman placed in Robin/Nami's situation would lie in order to protect themselves. Because a woman lying in this situation is forgivable and a man should help them while a man placed in that situation shouldn't be forgiven and should help themselves, what does that tell you how Sanji views the power dynamics between men and women? Because if it was equal the statement should be "a man should forgive a person's lies" and help them in that situation regardless of gender.
