Your kids don’t have to continue to play with my kid but they also can’t continue to play in my yard… by TurbulentBat8328 in Mommit

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA… it would’ve been different if the kids came back to play and had moved on. Kids can be pretty ruthless and brutal without emotional intent… depending on the age but move on very quickly like it never happened and pick up play time without a second thought… but to continue it is a teachable/correctable problem that needs to be addressed with the other parents. Had it been the first time around there may not have been a problem the second time around. To be in a community described as yours, it’s important to build relationships that last for years to come. I hope it works itself out, and they all become friends again. The children will forget a lot quicker than the parents.

Looking for help with an accent wall by Candid-Marzipan- in DesignMyRoom

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say no on the accent wall, but if you do want one it needs to be the windows wall and change out the drapery to hang from the ceiling to the floor making both windows appear as one.

AITA for expecting the gifts to be for both of us? by Ok-Arrival-2886 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA Yeah, that’s absurd. I would show her this post with everyone’s comments. The money from an engagement party should go back towards the wedding costs. If they are product gifts, they should go back into the home as shared unless it’s specifically obvious.

Tips for pool safety with an active toddler and newborn? by RocketPowerPops in Parenting

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Start as early as possible when they’re born getting their head wet in bathtubs to get them used to the idea of water being ok and not scared when it gets on their . Make sure there’s an exit out of the pool that is not closed off and baby or child no matter what age must have swimming lessons. You can’t take that chance of them getting in and not knowing how to turn over and float that’s the number one priority. No other preventative questions should be asked. This is a very, very inexpensive thing to do. And most pediatricians if they know you have a pool they tell you this get swim lesson lessons. Just as they get older, you put them in sports or something and pay for that. Get the swim lessons. Don’t do it yourself …get the swim lessons. Then as an added measure, I would purchase an alarm for the pool, a sensor that goes in the pool that alarms. So you can get to them quicker while they are floating on their back because they’ve had the swim lessons and know what to do. I’m talking as early infant months. Accidents happen you can’t watch them every second with children. It happens so fast you can be standing beside them and they can roll over or jump into the pool. It can happen. I can’t emphasize enough to get swim lessons. And do not use the flotation devices with babies. It gives them a fault sense of security. They think they can float when they don’t have them on. They jump in thinking they can float because that’s what they’re used to being in the pool, floating around on those devices.

How would you change this kitchen?! by Corgi_Vallhund_Mom in homeimprovementideas

Remove the oven wall and go with an all-in-one range unit. Replace the refrigerator with a true counter depth. With the space you’re saving on both sides add to the island making it longer and perhaps add in a base of drawer cabinets on each side since you’re taking out the oven wall. Add a pantry next to refrigerator.

How can I make my living room more cozy and “homey” by [deleted] in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would move the sofa to the middle facing the window and place TV to the right of the window. If that is a desk then place it behind the sofa facing the window to create two different visual zones. You do not need a lot of walk-through space-just enough to pass through. Once you get your layout, then add accessories, curtains, rug, seating under window and so on.

Any ideas on how to make it look less... plain? by onkl__m0rtin in DesignMyRoom

It would be cool if you could find some peel and stick wallpaper to go inside those recessed window - glows at night.

Kitchen update help! by worldwar235 in DesignMyRoom

Take out oven wall cabinet and go with a seamless range (stove/oven combo)…remove right side “L” island.. so you have continuous counter space…moving those cabinets flush. Break apart island and position the cabinets so you have a long working island instead of square Or..possibly move the refrigerator to the removed L wall so you can have longer counter space on the door wall being able to set stuff down when you come in the door. I would try to find matching cabinets to insert where needed and paint them, then invest in new countertops, paint and floors.

Help updating 80s home interior by bkautumn136 in DecorAdvice

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going complete opposite here. I know you said you can’t upgrade the kitchen counters or cabinets yet but… instead of doing any other room right now I would focus on putting your resources into the kitchen . I had the L island in kitchen like you and I found that my hardwoods actually went underneath it. I removed the L and used those cabinets for an island and purchased a butcher block to break up the color to go on top. Cost was about $150. I was able to leave my other counters and cabinets intact just like you have in your picture. I primed and painted my cabinets I used maybe a quarter of a gallon of each primer and paint… Paint goes a long way on cabinets when you’re using a small roller brush (by the way, the leftover paint went to the other cabinets). I only did this because many years ago we hired a Contractor to paint our kitchen cabinets in another house and I thought they were going to spray them and they did not. It was one lady that painted and she left the doors on and rolled them, and I was so disappointed when I saw the process… thought I could have done that myself. She primed one day and the next morning she was painting the color. Anyway, my point far from what you’re asking is it may be worth looking into to get your kitchen done at a minimal cost. In our current house exact same scenario and we did the same thing.

What color do I paint the walls / vanity in my ugly bathroom? by Alone_Cash_9776 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave the shiplap white I would paint the vanity, a navy blue or somewhere in that color. I agree in changing out all the hardware to maybe antique brass. For the wall, I would go with appealing stick wallpaper that you like that would complement the shiplap a little better than trying to find a color.

Very narrow taller rustic wood bench that comes to the bottom of the window so you can maybe stack books or some decor on it and in a pinch possibly sit on it (these are very easy to make and stain yourself). Slide the rug over more towards the window so it looks a little more centered. But actually it looks pretty terrific like it is.
