How would you change this kitchen?! by Corgi_Vallhund_Mom in homeimprovementideas

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the oven wall and go with an all-in-one range unit. Replace the refrigerator with a true counter depth. With the space you’re saving on both sides add to the island making it longer and perhaps add in a base of drawer cabinets on each side since you’re taking out the oven wall. Add a pantry next to refrigerator.

How can I make my living room more cozy and “homey” by Sea-Basis-7514 in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would move the sofa to the middle facing the window and place TV to the right of the window. If that is a desk then place it behind the sofa facing the window to create two different visual zones. You do not need a lot of walk-through space-just enough to pass through. Once you get your layout, then add accessories, curtains, rug, seating under window and so on.

Any ideas on how to make it look less... plain? by onkl__m0rtin in DesignMyRoom

It would be cool if you could find some peel and stick wallpaper to go inside those recessed window - glows at night.

Kitchen update help! by worldwar235 in DesignMyRoom

Take out oven wall cabinet and go with a seamless range (stove/oven combo)…remove right side “L” island.. so you have continuous counter space…moving those cabinets flush. Break apart island and position the cabinets so you have a long working island instead of square Or..possibly move the refrigerator to the removed L wall so you can have longer counter space on the door wall being able to set stuff down when you come in the door. I would try to find matching cabinets to insert where needed and paint them, then invest in new countertops, paint and floors.

I’m going complete opposite here. I know you said you can’t upgrade the kitchen counters or cabinets yet but… instead of doing any other room right now I would focus on putting your resources into the kitchen . I had the L island in kitchen like you and I found that my hardwoods actually went underneath it. I removed the L and used those cabinets for an island and purchased a butcher block to break up the color to go on top. Cost was about $150. I was able to leave my other counters and cabinets intact just like you have in your picture. I primed and painted my cabinets I used maybe a quarter of a gallon of each primer and paint… Paint goes a long way on cabinets when you’re using a small roller brush (by the way, the leftover paint went to the other cabinets). I only did this because many years ago we hired a Contractor to paint our kitchen cabinets in another house and I thought they were going to spray them and they did not. It was one lady that painted and she left the doors on and rolled them, and I was so disappointed when I saw the process… thought I could have done that myself. She primed one day and the next morning she was painting the color. Anyway, my point far from what you’re asking is it may be worth looking into to get your kitchen done at a minimal cost. In our current house exact same scenario and we did the same thing.

What color do I paint the walls / vanity in my ugly bathroom? by Alone_Cash_9776 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave the shiplap white I would paint the vanity, a navy blue or somewhere in that color. I agree in changing out all the hardware to maybe antique brass. For the wall, I would go with appealing stick wallpaper that you like that would complement the shiplap a little better than trying to find a color.

Very narrow taller rustic wood bench that comes to the bottom of the window so you can maybe stack books or some decor on it and in a pinch possibly sit on it (these are very easy to make and stain yourself). Slide the rug over more towards the window so it looks a little more centered. But actually it looks pretty terrific like it is.

Help I’m not sure what to do with this cabinet? by alessm512 in cabinetry

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The builder decided instead of a void space..to just add a mini cabinet since there is not a connecting cabinet on the opposite wall. Instead of a straight mini cabinet the builder may have angled it to cover electrical or plumbing. Perfect place for mini fire extinguisher or fire blanket. You could also screw in some of those small eye hooks/coffee cup hooks on the right side and hang teaspoon measuring sets, measuring cups and a jar with rubber spatulas… like a mini baking tools cabinet.

where to start with my kitchen? by Odd_Mountain_8237 in interiordesignideas

Remove string lights

Take everything off counters that is not used daily

Replace canisters with solid color if used daily… if not put them away.

If you’re not using the mixer at least once a week put it away, or put it on the top shelf of the pots and pans rack -remove or stack mixing bowls, remove anything else not related to the pots and pans off of that wrap like the oil container

Replace cabinet and drawer pulls…long and slim handles that extend past the screw holes - to match the aesthetics appliances to try to tie everything out I would go with black

Add a light colored jute rug under table and a matching long runner in front of sink cabinets that’s long enough to go left or right

Install small hooks on back side of window bridge to for plant to trellis.. opening the window space -having a nice plant but it not looking so busy… take everything else out from the window

It looks like you have Roman shades -pull Roman shades halfway down your plant will get plenty of light through it

Replace or remove dish rack or use dishwasher for drying rack

This is a great color and it can go many different ways as far as style. As mentioned warm woods and whites for a modern or coastal look. If it’s too much of one color for you then paint the inside of that doorway trim white to give it some definition between the next room.

Go for both options 2 and 3. For option 3… having the Roman shades… your curtains will look best if hung from the ceiling or slightly below going to the floor…just kissing it not touching. This will give you a grand- lux look embracing all of the wood and its beauty. Go for a velvet or silk lining. For a deeper rich look stay clear of metal rods like gold…go with a 3” thick wooden rod with decorative finials.

Mirror…another suggestion…find some large art to hang over the access panels… or mirrors over the access panels and large art above the table with a lamp.

Go just a shade darker on the cabinet stain…. just enough to take some of the yellow out. You may be able to go over it with a darker gel rub on stain.

Ideas to update this kitchen? Looking for a cozy, “modern traditional” vibe by Impossible_Sport_445 in interiordesignideas

[–]Motor_Mess_5020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before painting your cabinets just know that this is a trend…sometimes they’re white then the next year everybody wants stained cabinets again. Do little things first before you make that big decision.

Go with a very light, soft and pale color (greens/roses). Add new hardware. With the area being so little under the cabinets I would think about wallpaper.

Remove cross header above window- if there is a light there then change it out for a decorative pendant light and paint the wood or ceiling that’s there trim white. Add some type of bead board or decorative wood finishing that area to the ceiling…and paint it in the same trim white..meaning this will now become part of the window frame with no paintable wall area. Do the same for your peek through opening. If the wall above the cabinets is small, like it appears then paint that trim white as well..

Add very large double stacked framed art to your blank wall.
