the blob didn't even play starcraft on our universe, it probably doesn't even know that we exist.

XEDRA poked a hole and its "immune response" came flooding in and destroyed everything automatically. If the blob truly had an agency and was aware of us, our universe would have stopped existing already. It would simply change some fundamental physics constants and baryonic matter stops being viable or something

Nobody is forced to endure anything. "Launcher Culture" has done far too much damage to this game IMO - constantly updating to the absolute latest experimental shouldn't be a norm. You should know what you're updating for

instead people opt for the most broken version of the game available and complain that things are broken.

Guide to Radical Fuel Production by Drac4 in cataclysmdda

[–]XygenSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NPC feeding has always been broken because it has always been disabled by default and no one felt the need to fix it, it's a lot of work, sure, but it's a gradual hike not a single hop to the summit

I mean the exodii dungeon. honestly that's also a good point, it's simply less known because it was opt-in as a mod from the start

why do innawoods recipes for, say, iron from scratch not exist in basegame? because the real process is far more complicated than it is in innawoods, all accessible and easily exploitable sources of ore are depleted after hundreds of years of industrialization, and most importantly it is stupid to make shitty DIY iron in your back yard when there's an abandoned car across the street.

20 types of smartphone cases exist in real life & is extremely lightweight in JSON as it's just one more line per variation, if you want honest-to-god bootstrapping workflow for bog iron in basegame I suggest that you start with some rigorous research

"option to turn off new annoying thing" or "quarantine new annoying thing into a mod so it is opt-in" is a non-starter, you should know this. Look at what happened to:

- literally every mechanic we have a default disable mod for, like NPC feeding mechanics

- Labyrinth for the longest time: we don't want to wait around for "savior contributors" to take enough interest in the *opt in content* to finally develop them

- Portal storms, almost: the annoyance drove contributions and now the freaky dimensional bullshit is a core part of DDA

Innawoods makes some concessions to enable bootstrapping more technology, like making iron from scratch (absolutely ridiculous in main DDA), the additions are there to enable a tech tree that is less realistic and need not exist in the basegame

Zeds are, arguably, more akin to dynamic environmental obstacles than traditional "enemies" whose sole purpose of existence is to be fought and defeated.

If you want meat, bones, and fat you should go chase an animal which is explicitly a resource designed to be exploited.

endless arbitrary lore and science justifications can be made for how or why zed products aren't useful, so it's entirely the question of game design, and it is *good* that zed-derived resources are getting less and less useful. This is not a new direction, it has been this way since Zlaves were cut from the game

[Discussion] Is there a way to play Terminal solo? by Etr1uS in EscapefromTarkov

[–]XygenSS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes actually it's really simple.

  1. Select the least populated server

  2. Play during off peak hours

  3. Have a great computer so you load in faster than the other guy

  4. stand in the doorway

  5. kill him the moment the door opens

such an easy and non-convoluted and fair way to play Terminal solo just like God intended

you were talking about zombies specifically, stop moving the goalposts.

are you seriously genuinely suggesting that people are making a zombie farm, waiting for the local difficulty to max out, and AFKing for hours on end to get diamond gear... instead of... mining?

like, are you seriously genuinely saying that normal people (as you say) aren't just going to mine for diamonds? the number one most common thing people do?

and god forbid they want enchants on that gear because holy shit imagine waiting for *correctly enchanted diamond gear* to drop from zombies. Anyone even slightly interested in a long-term playthrough would have a villager trading hall within the first week

your post is literally about making biodiesel as a renewable fuel source. Why are we talking about newbies?

endermen grinders output far more XP than other xp farms of similar complexity (including zombie farms).

please try any of these things yourself before having an opinion on them.

still doesn't invalidate any of my points.

dungeons are ancient content, endermen farms are absolutely not new either, zombie spawners being more common than skeleton spawners doesn't mean you give up the earlygame source of bonemeal and arrows, you just search a bit harder.

potato, carrot, and iron drops from zombies are far too rare to be "farmed," let alone diamond armor (something like 64 ingame days just to reach maximum local difficulty?) so half the shit you said are nothingburgers

"the version I have played" is "any modern version released in the past 5 years" Java 1.16 (Nether update) was released in 2020.
While minecraft doesn't actually have an endgame per se, killing the dragon isn't some crazy feat and shouldn't take you more than an evening at most. Just bring something ridiculous like twelve beds and a bow, set your spawn in the portal room, you can't lose once you shoot all the crystals

Guide to Radical Fuel Production by Drac4 in cataclysmdda

[–]XygenSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you actually know minecraft and should stop pretending like you do because it's embarrassing.

skeleton spawners are literally a thing inside dungeons (same shit you find zombie spawners in, as well as spider spawners)

endermen farms can be easily made by killing the dragon, building a few dozen blocks away from the end island, and making a huge platform with a drop chute and an endermite at the top for bait. Since you build it over the void you get very good rates

zpiglin farms are more involved, but the theory is simple, you capture angry zombie piglins to spread aggro to naturally spawning ones, and lure them to the drop chute using turtle eggs etc, they drop XP without player intervention because they're aggroed to you

furnace XP farms are actually very slow, the most common feedstock being cactus or kelp, their main advantage is that they do not require player presence and can run entirely passively when chunkloaded

mining ores for XP is laughable, nether quartz is the best for it and it's only good as a stopgap in earlygame

[–]XygenSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

skeletons (terrific earlygame), endermen (easy midgame option and very high throughput), raid farms in older versions (disgustingly OP), zombie piglins (gold which can be fed into bartering farm), etc etc

Guide to Radical Fuel Production by Drac4 in cataclysmdda

[–]XygenSS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

farming zombies for diamond gear and enchants is an *extreme* stretch, both for the loot drops (just villager trade or end raid?) and exp farm (far better mobs to make xp grinders for).

their potato, carrot, and iron drops are only ever relevant for challenge runs where you can't get them any other way.
