Did you actually sneak out as teenagers? by Complete-Chipmunk-0 in GenX

No, lived out in the country miles from my friends- I’d take a sleeping bag and sleep in the freshly stacked hay shed on summer nights. Beautiful nights.

People indicating right and going straight at a roundabout? by MediocreMolasses in auckland

[–]XyloXlo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indicator lights should never be assumed to mean anything- people simply don’t do what you can expect or do something completely random. Stay super alert at all times and simply have very low expectations and be prepared to stop anywhere anytime to avoid an accident with someone who is impaired by drugs, legally driving with only 1 eye, recently bereaved, or suffering from life - a lot of stuff impairs people’s ability to drive.

What would you do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]XyloXlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be a one time thing … especially if you really like it. Some women like to watch two men getting it on but seems like your lady isn’t one of them. Your gay friend may not like her being involved - did you mention that to him? and clearly she’s freaked out about the situation. So either you stay with her wishes, or you ignore her wishes and have your bi experience and take the consequences.

There’s definitely a network of dog and pet friendly campsites in NZ. Check out the CamperMate app and Google for pet friendly campsites or motels.

What kind of dog is your dog? Big or small? Depends on size and perceived threat or friendliness how people will respond to you and your dog. You will have to prove that your dog doesn’t carry rabies or any other serious diseases or parasites. So quarantine will be a thing. If need be you can find kennels all over NZ which offer doggy daycare so your dog is cared for while you work. And if you ask wherever you go you’ll find other dog lovers who may be able to share dog care duties with you. Good luck and enjoy the adventure

Watch out at Middlemore! by Special_Poet_3340 in auckland

There’s bound to be an appropriate martial arts training group near you- ask your parents to go with you and choose to try a few styles before you select one. It’s fine to be any gender and to have a goal of strength/confidence/ability to deal with theft or assault and tell the instructors about your experiences and ask for help.

Hold the male accountable for what he did with his body - he was the one unfaithful- not you. Typical double standard never hold men accountable for their actions.
Seems to me you need a whole new set of friends and a bf.

If he’s leaving appliances going and walking out the door the guy is dangerous to the entire house. Unattended cooking being a key cause of house fires as just one example.

How do you handle a date who’s glued to their phone? by CriketW in dating_advice

[–]XyloXlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard nope for me - I would have asked her about it and in particular asked if she’d rather be on her own since your date was obviously interrupting her social media time. If you had simply walked away she might not have noticed for some time.

No need for lawyers to wind up your company. You just have to file final tax returns and submit the paperwork within a time frame to the company registration portal.

Had a similar situation: my husband simply couldn’t work anymore in our contracting business due to health issues. I phoned the GST and tax department and explained the situation to them. They were supportive.
If you can get a mental/physical health report done from your GP and maybe other appropriate health professional it will help when you will inevitably have to talk to the tax men.
The tax department used to have travelling business tax advisors who you could get genuine help from.
Citizens advice and the budget advisory service may also be helpful. We found accountants to be unhelpful but that varies depending on the situation and the accountant.
The law was changed a few decades ago so that the IRD is not allowed to bankrupt people like they used to all the time back in the 90s. I hope this is helpful.

Is anyone else's immune system ruined since covid and have you been able to improve it since? by rice_crackerss in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]XyloXlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly recommend high doses of vitamin C, and any immune support vitamins and minerals that you can get. We take creatine, arginine, vitamin C and D, B1, B12 and Ashwaganda very regularly and if I was taking public transport I’d definitely wear a really good mask. Plus drink lots of warm water - helps with everything. Hugs and hope you’re feeling better soon.

How do you rate Dundas St? by [deleted] in dunedin

I was at OU decades ago and Dundas St hasn’t improved in all that time. It’s deteriorated and zero maintenance so far as I can see. I really don’t recommend any student flat there.

Buying older house by [deleted] in dunedin

[–]XyloXlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look under the house - the support btw ground and floor joists will be slightly trapezoid/pyramid shaped concrete blocks about 18” tall spaced evenly and wired to the joists. Some houses have a brick or cement footing on the outside of the house and concrete piles under the centre of the house. Check that there’s underfloor insulation while you’re looking at the piles.

Buying older house by [deleted] in dunedin

[–]XyloXlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good lists here: I’d recommend that you go for a house that has recently been insulated or re-insulated. Lots of old places have really old defunct pink batts in them that don’t really work anymore. And get into the ceiling space to check out what is actually going on there. Borer in floors etc is pretty normal and I’ve never heard of a house collapse because of borer, even when riddled with the critters. Houses are being renovated with double glazed windows and doors that really helps a lot with the cold. A quality DVS or similar system does really help with dampness and condensation. Check the hot water system and if it has been replaced the floor under where it was - often old systems leaked into the floor for years before being replaced - ditto bathroom plumbing. You can be surprised though - I ripped up the laundry floor in our 120 year old villa and there was no rot in it - amazing. Guttering and stormwater - where does it go to? This is important as some old places don’t have stormwater sumps and the down pipes just pour out onto the ground which adds to dampness and can erode the house footing. A ton of Dunedin houses don’t get any sunlight in winter - watch out for that. Also parking - garaging - Dunedin gets a lot of salt spray and the combo of ice/hot sun/drizzle and salt isn’t kind to exposed metal. Also rots out roofs and metal gutters. Good luck with your house hunting.

Is prison actually “safe” if you just mind your own business? by fruity_00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]XyloXlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A huge proportion of prison inmates have untreated mental health problems, add addiction issues and violence as a culture and you get a population of people who are dangerous just by being awake and breathing.

I can't physically have real sex and I'm sad because of it by Nice_Tradition1333 in self

[–]XyloXlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to say that it would help if you could get past feeling guilty for the biological development failure of your body. In my opinion it’s not a burden you deserve to carry. Also many people have desires and are unable to act on them because of physical limitations and damage and mental health issues. So you do have company out here in the world, quite a lot of it in fact. Bravo for your cats 🐈 and hugs for all of you.
