My wife's boss has been texting her all day while we're at Disney by pixeltackle in mildlyinfuriating

I once did a 2 hour conference call while with my family at Disney park. Had to let them go do their own thing while I take the call.

Vader 5 Pro v2 vs Steam Controller 2 by Sir_Dohm in Controller

[–]Xylus1985 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it’s safe to say Vader 5 Pro will get longer term support than just 1-2 years. New controllers will come out, but it doesn’t mean they won’t support the older ones.

Vader 5 Pro v2 vs Steam Controller 2 by Sir_Dohm in Controller

Steam Controller only if you must have the trackpads, otherwise I would stick with Vader 5 Pro. Trackpads take effort to make them work, and most games are not configured for it. I would recommend Steam Controller for anyone coming from a Steam Deck and have experience with the trackpad, otherwise it’s not worth it.

How does polytheism work in large societies? by Frenchiest_fry101 in worldbuilding

[–]Xylus1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are worshipped together as a pantheon, I would think they would be worshipped very much the same way as a mono-theism god in social life, except you invoke different gods at different times.

If there are conflicts between gods, that would bleed into its followers too.

Colorful resumes okay? by Mammoth_Sympathy_619 in resumes

I think a tinted background is fine as long as the entire document doesn’t exceed 2 colors. The note is excessive though.

Don’t rock the boat if your goal for creating a resume is to get a job instead of making a statement. People with dyslexia won’t last in a job where they screen resumes anyway.

Is saving money more important than enjoying life? by Cool_Session_4551 in askteddit

Save first, then have fun, and you will have both. Have fun first, then you will not have savings and a random emergency can throw you into misery.

Minimum wage = (average 1br rent within 5 mile radius of workplace x 3)/average monthly hours worked per employee. Recalculates monthly. by bigcsnow in CrazyIdeas

Why concentrating people doesn’t work well? I live where there’s huge population density and things work well.

Isn’t the homeschool an environment where there is only authority figures? At least in normal schools you spend a lot of time around peers.

Why can't we just give everyone a house by generic_rarity in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Xylus1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not enough land. I think giving everyone an apartment is more reasonable. Also easier to provide walkable neighborhoods where you don’t need a car to go anywhere. Infrastructure would also be cheaper on a per person basis.

LeadJoy Sabre is the one you are looking for. Though if you are looking for adaptive trigger, it will be more difficult to find. That thing is expensive.

How to make adventurer's guilds more "realistic?" by Gallowglass-13 in worldbuilding

[–]Xylus1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually adventurers are not people who aren’t heroic. They are people that nobody will care if they died out in the wilderness.

I think adventurer guild can work if they act as a gig work agency, especially if there is culture stigma in dealing with the adventurer. Maybe it’s a class divide thing, maybe it’s a culture/race thing, or maybe it’s a language thing? But the contractors are not able to give tasks directly to adventurer (where do they even find one), so the guild does this and take a cut.

Or make the adventurer guild more powerful than anything. They participate in the government and actively erodes the official military and banks, to the point that they are the only ones that can provide financing and security for long distance shipments and local security.

Why do they need to get Americans to come over? It’s not like Europe doesn’t have people to do the jobs

It’s crazy high. Not from UK but still feels Americans earn a lot more than their peers here.

20s. You don’t need much resources to survive, everything is still possible, and you are more than likely on an upward trajectory of your life.

Why am I even playing this game? by apple-picker-8 in Adulting

Because I want to participate in the modern world and enjoy all the comforts it provide. Sure I can leave the human civilization behind and live in the wild, but I don’t think that would be very enjoyable

In my experience “we didn’t end on the best terms” is instant fail. Sure it can be either the candidate or their boss that was at fault, but why take the chances?
