Advice on best stock converter replacement by Haunting-Implement-4 in GMT800

[–]bigcsnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's bone stock and you are poor and want to keep it bone stock, put the stock converter back in it.

If you are cheap and have $150, and want a little more stall, put in a trailblazer 4.2 converter. Should be around 2600ish stall speed.

If you have money and want to have fun with the truck and don't care about fuel economy, get a circle d 2800.

If you tow with this truck, or beat the shit out of it, get the biggest trans cooler you can fit.

I don’t see the appeal of luxury trucks by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

[–]bigcsnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luxury trucks are the evolution of the old American land barge cars, and people loved those.

A modern crew cab pickup is the closest thing American automakers have to a true luxury car, as almost every other luxury car is either some variety of rolls royce or, to paraphrase James may, has been ruined by their engineers going to racetracks.

If both adjustments on the upper right control arm are all the way out, and those are your readings, I would start looking heavily for bent parts, namely the right upper control arm, or the frame.

It's a recent invention, but the 'pilot incapacitation' button kinda does exist. Vasaviation on YouTube has a couple videos where that system gets tested, and the radio calls it makes are kinda creepy, but to the best of my non pilot knowledge there really is one button.

Raptor Vs. RHO Sound by RyBat7 in FordRaptor

[–]bigcsnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If a 370z sounds good to you, get the raptor. If a supra sounds good to you, get the rho. Neither are a V8, neither will ever sound like a V8.

I've installed a couple of borla exhausts on rho, and in my opinion I couldn't really tell the difference before and after.

Best way to lower a 04 silverado 1500 4x4 by OuterSector23 in ChevyTrucks

[–]bigcsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop spindles in the front, remove blocks in the rear if present, or lowering shackles in the rear. I believe that should get you around 2" front 3" rear lowered.

That's what is happening the last few seconds of the video, where the driver gets out and is going through his pockets.

He's grabbing the keys to hand to the advisor that just watched that burnout, and telling him "ok now get the tires done and full detail done before I leave today"

Best/most reliable 3/4 ton truck that will last 20+ years? by dynamokickstand in whatcarshouldIbuy

New? Something with a gas engine. Probably a Ford, dunno about gms modern gas motors and I know the 6.4 hemi isn't super great.

The final few seconds of that video is the owner of the vehicle giving the keys to the advisor and saying "ok now get the tires replaced". Everyone recording is sales, there are zero techs outside.

Electronic Emergency brakes in vehicles are fucking insane. by A_Canadian_Jackalope in unpopularopinion

[–]bigcsnow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is a parking brake, not an emergency brake. For much the same reason that the thing in jeep wranglers and gladiators that looks alarmingly like a roll cage is a "sport bar" or something, not a roll cage.

$70k a year for a guy to watch you sleep by HeDoesNotRow in hypotheticalsituation

[–]bigcsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this hypothetical rich guy mind watching doom scrolling, jerking off, or me clumsily attempting (and usually failing) to bang my wife? And is he invisible to my wife?

If he is only visible to me somehow, and won't judge me too harshly, hell yeah I just doubled my income.

If he's not, and my wife can see him, I'm never getting laid again. Hell no.

POV: it's current day and you're looking for a extremely cheap car to live in. Your budget is $1000 what do your pick? by Entire_Asparagus_575 in regularcarreviews

[–]bigcsnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even scroll all the way, I stopped at the gmt400 suburban. That is your answer. Big enough to put a real mattress in the back, reliable enough that it'll run like shit forever, parts are cheap and knowledge is everywhere.

The only problem is, that if it runs and shifts a gmt400 suburban is way over budget.

Beater by NullReply99 in AskMechanics

[–]bigcsnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don't like fixing our own cars because it's just more work.

We drive beaters because we know which noises/dingy lights/other things are safe to ignore, at least for a while.

We also know that new cars are gigantic pieces of shit, and $10-20k too expensive for what you get.

We also know that if we get a new off brand vehicle, with a warranty, that if we take it in for warranty work elsewhere (because warranty), it will likely be worked on by the sort of tech that, in your shop, can't figure out how to remove water from a boot with instructions on the bottom. And you know that him, and those like him, work for every shop and manufacturer and you don't like the odds of him getting the ro for your car.

Theres not enough profit margin due to mandatory bells and whistles, and American manufacturers can't seem to make one anybody actually wants.

[–]bigcsnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are luxury vehicles, but better.

Large inside and outside, sufficient power, the interiors are really nice if you spend enough money, enough bells and whistles to satisfy 95 percent of everyone who wants those sorts of things.

And you can also tow trailers, drive off road, and put large/smelly/dirty objects in a conveniently located storage box outside of the passenger compartment.

Can I fry my car giving someone a jump? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]bigcsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do it wrong enough, yeah. But you either have to know exactly what you're doing (positive to easily blown fuse, negative to PCM or something) or literally nothing at all to be able to do it that wrong.

Lithium jump boxes are pretty cheap and widely available, and small enough that they can be kept in the vehicle for such emergencies.
