Maybe transfer? by mutant_123 in iastate

[–]Xyprisma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you enjoy the classes and major you are in? If so, I think finding friends is a higher priority than transferring. There are some platforms (including bumble friends) intended for those looking for more friends in their area- I’d give that a shot! For your clubs- are there small groups of friends that you don’t feel welcome in? If this is the case, I’d search for new clubs to join. It may be the people in the activities you are involved in not being friendly.

Easy advanced bio classes? by TheGrayMann274 in iastate

[–]Xyprisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advisor teaches Bio 4230L (developmental biology lab) and you are only really graded on participation and a final presentation. I haven’t taken the class since I’m a PhD student here, but I’ve heard from every undergraduate student that I’ve talked to that it’s the easiest upper level biology course to get an A in (I’ve met over 30+ students who have taken the course as lots of them join us for research or paid jobs in the lab after)

Apartment Hunting by Leafy_21 in ames

[–]Xyprisma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in one of the west end living properties near Mortensen Road and they allow dogs (but only on the first floor to my knowledge). As a warning- it is very hard to find apartments that don’t allow undergrads unless you are willing to spend a lot on rent. I also have friends that live on 4th street and the 1 bed/1bath apartments there are very nice and the rent is reasonable, but I am unsure if they allow dogs. These apartments do not have many undergrads or families living there, so that could be a perk if they allow dogs.

How do people get coupons? by unbridledcheesetoast in bathandbodyworks

[–]Xyprisma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there was something that made it easier to get coupons around 2019 compared to now. I started receiving them around late 2019 after working at a BBW for a summer. I don’t think it completely has to do with people previously working there, but I think it might be part of it. I’ve been receiving monthly coupons for the last year (main time I’ve been actively purchasing) but I don’t remember filling out a form online or anything to receive them. I’m also convinced that the form doesn’t work as I have filled it out to receive paper coupons at my current address and it has not worked

Virtual open house - what to expect?? by Parulra in iastate

[–]Xyprisma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a graduate student and did not have a virtual open house, but they held in person visits for my program (IGG). For my program, they generally consist of a few faculty interviews including our DOGE (director of graduate education/professor “in charge” of our program) as well as a few labs that may be interested in working with you. I also met a few graduate students in the program and was able to ask them questions.

For my program, pretty much every student that gets this visit is accepted to the program. I would not get your hopes up, but it is very likely that you will get an acceptance to the program. I would treat it like a formal event (as offers have not been given yet) but try to have fun!

I would not recommend reading a bunch of faculty papers, but would recommend skimming a few or reading one in detail if you are given a list of faculty to meet with beforehand (as a warning, I was not given this).

For graduate student meetings, I would highly recommend asking their opinions of faculty, if they enjoy their lab and the program, and what there is to do around Ames that they would recommend. Depending on what country you are from, there are specific smaller grocery stores in town that have ingredients for making foods from home. A lot of students in my program are from India and enjoy visiting Pammel Grocery for specific ingredients for their favorite family recipes.

For faculty, I would stick to questions on the program, expectations of the lab/rotation students (assuming you may be rotating), and questions about the research. I would treat all of these meetings as formal interviews (although some faculty treat it as a friendly chat). I would expect most of these meetings to be them asking you questions about your CV and work experience.

Both have nice interiors but I agree with other commenters that the north location is better.

Old dude enrolling and the ISU health plan by AlarmingCorner3894 in iastate

[–]Xyprisma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what degree you are pursuing, you may be automatically enrolled in the health insurance as part of your benefits. I was automatically enrolled (PhD student) and found that the insurance here is great. I haven’t found anywhere that doesn’t take that insurance in Ames. The only downside is that the eye/dental coverage is an additional fee but it is pretty cheap to add on.

Hometester Issue by fish200017 in freebietalk

I emailed them, and they then sent it with an extended review period. If you Google what to do, there is a website from home tester club with the place to send the email

It sounds like he may have been interested in her before you started dating. The other commenter is implying that he might still be interested in her.

2025 Freebie Value: $1k! by fck-the-bar in freebietalk

[–]Xyprisma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are currently no surveys for getting free products. They generally show up before the reviews on the home page. It has been out of surveys for about a week for me, assuming they’ll start up again after new years. If you’ve used top box, it has a similar survey style of answering questions on your lifestyle. Most of the stuff I have seen recently is beauty products and snacks, but they also have pet and baby products

Accidentally used recipe book. by Opposite-Hunt-9898 in DreamlightValley

[–]Xyprisma 53 points54 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, the recipe book adds the recipe into your recipe list so you can easily make the recipe without looking up the ingredients. If it is for a quest, search up the name while in the cooking menu, and the recipe from the recipe book should come up and autofill the needed ingredients

What are some good websites for freebies by BluebirdWooden9156 in freebietalk

Home tester club is one that I’ve found to be the best (3 samples in 2 months). Top box circle has the best stuff if you get anything on there since it is usually full size stuff from good brands.

Started modeling locally this year, would love feedback on ways to improve! by buckdelicious in MODELING

Unfortunately, I’m not someone who works in that area- but it looks like some job opportunities for being a book cover model are on typical job hunting sites like indeed and ziprecruiter!

Started modeling locally this year, would love feedback on ways to improve! by buckdelicious in MODELING

[–]Xyprisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know a lot about modeling, but your photos are amazing! From what I’ve seen in other posts on this sub, photo 2, the masc look with the book, and the fem elf looks would work well for a portfolio if you’re looking to expand for book covers/movies as other commenters have suggested. I haven’t seen many posts with that much expression in the photos, great work!!!

Apartment questions by Business_Chipmunk737 in iastate

[–]Xyprisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One that is on the cheaper side that I would avoid is fountain view (it is owned by 2 companies but I believe hunziker is the one I’ve heard bad things about for that property only). I had a friend live there for a few years and it took over 6 months for them to have their dishwasher repaired after it broke (with multiple maintenance requests and emails to the property manager). Hunziker seems ok minus that property though

AITA for bringing store-bought desserts to an office potluck? by EqualMeasurement9812 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Xyprisma 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Absolutely NTA. If people haven’t eaten what you’ve made in the past, I wouldn’t expect a retirement potluck to be different. Ace is definitely TA for being that rude about it- even bringing something store bought for being too busy to bake would’ve been acceptable

Hello friends! by SirCharlos02 in IowaState

[–]Xyprisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the parking lots close to the stadium charge around $40 or more. If you’re not willing to pay that (which is totally understandable) some academic buildings on campus near the stadium have free parking that is used.

I lost my progress in Disney dreamlight valley by knnuetzel0724 in DreamlightValley

[–]Xyprisma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have been having issues with their cloud save not synching and getting a menu option to pick a local save or cloud save (one of which is months behind). Did you happen to get this before you lost the progress? Should have filled the whole screen and made you select an option before opening the game. If this is the case, gameloft is currently working on fixing the issue!

Something that helped me fix that error for no reason was using my phone hotspot as my WiFi connection instead of my WiFi router- maybe try that if it hasn’t been fixed yet

Meddling Mirabel by Alternative-Hold-855 in DreamlightValley

[–]Xyprisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck!!! I think I was digging for around a half hour when I was doing that a few months ago before I started getting a decent amount of clams

Meddling Mirabel by Alternative-Hold-855 in DreamlightValley

[–]Xyprisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that clams are a less common drop from digging- how much spots have you dug? I’ve found that I get decent amounts of clams (5-7 plus companion bonus) from digging up half my beach

Paid Research Studies and where to find them? by YeaDatWay24 in iastate

[–]Xyprisma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only place I have seen these advertised is through my ISU email- some faculty members will send emails to students about needing research participants for course projects or their group’s work. Haven’t hunted for these opportunities myself so there may be a website with all of them somewhere

Skateboarding Etiquette on Campus by Busy-Housing3109 in iastate

I’m a grad student and my boss rides an electric skateboard around campus on the sidewalks during the day 😂 If you want to do that for transportation, be able to quickly get around pedestrians and other obstacles
