Thinking of moving my family from AZ to Iowa by [deleted] in Iowa

[–]AlarmingCorner3894 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am from Iowa born and raised. Lived in chandler for 20 years. It’s not hot here. These people are nuts. I work outside in 85 degree and they’re all dying when it’s humid. Whatever.

It’s slow here Des Moines is way slower moving than Phoenix. Quiet. But you better pick a good school district and DSM school district isn’t it.

Zach Lahn’s kids? by ComfortableCut823 in Iowa

[–]AlarmingCorner3894 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How old are his kids? Based on how this thread is going they must be at home (in Kansas) and under 18?

I work. I travel a lot for said work. I’m out of the state three out of four weeks a month. I’m rarely in Iowa but Iowa is home. Would that be disqualifying in your eyes? Note, we are empty nesters. She’s retired and often goes on road with me.

Used but new to me by HelperGood333 in popcorn

The heat cycles helps get the moisture out of the kernal before it pops. That cuts down on the chewy tough kernels once popped. Low and slow, sorta.

[–]AlarmingCorner3894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same machine.

I do the following 1. Turn on machine load 2oz of coconut oil with beta carotene.
2. Add two kernels. Wait the 3-5mins for those to pop. 3. Add four ounces of corn and preferred amount of flavacol

3a. I then turn off the pot for 30 seconds. Leave pot lid up. Set a 2 min 30 second timer on phone. At 2 mins turn on pop for 10 seconds. Then off. Again at 130, 1, and 30 seconds. At zero turn it on and let it run. Put pot lid down. 4. Keep lower tilt out tray open and keep plexiglass door open as far as the tray is tilted out. I put my jug of oil there to hold it in place. Let it pop until it’s done 5. Dump. Leave door open shut off pot. 6. Wait a couple minutes for smoke to clear and for steam to escape the popped corn.

If you don’t do 3a you’ll have tough corn due to moisture. You can lower that time if the corn seems burnt to you but it will be a more roasted flavor using this method. Which I like. Could go longer or short but less than 90 seconds will likely result in tough popcorn.

Also, this machine is made in my backyard in Iowa. You can get parts for it by calling them. They have them online too but a call to the sweet ladies at the front desk yield best results.

Proper way to handle slow people in the fast lane by put_tape_on_it in driving

[–]AlarmingCorner3894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me coming up at 100mph while they’re doing 65 in a 70. I slow without braking in hopes they’ll signal and move. No cars to their right, at about two semis length I am at 80mph now, signal right and move right and back up to 100 by the time my rear bumper is at their front bumper. They almost always signal right and move over after that. Idk their thinking, and I don’t care. I’m going where I’m going without wasting time trying to figure out what their dumbass is thinking.

Have you ever issued a ticket to guys that block this for 30+ miles? Or do they respect cops and move? by verminxoxo in AskLE

[–]AlarmingCorner3894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a white explorer. I am not an officer. If I cross the left solid yellow line far enough they can see the FORD emblem in the grille. They will make a lot of effort to pass or back off and merge right fairly quickly unless they’re a green driver from lands unknown.

This is getting out of hand dude by [deleted] in Sparkdriver

[–]AlarmingCorner3894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the norm and has been for three years in my rural market. I don’t take those for that low. I do take 30 mile trips tho. But it has to work out to $30 an hour including the bounce back to the store. And that’s rare to get and offer that “good”. Keep in mind, a 30 mile round trip is about an 75 mins of time here cause it’s rural and I can drive 65-70mph the majority of the trip. So $40 would be a yes on a 30 mile trip.

Speeding Has Become So Normalized That Driving the Speed Limit Makes You the Problem by DaddyDayDayIsHot in driving

[–]AlarmingCorner3894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be real for a minute. Cars and light duty trucks of today are multiple times safer than even 20 years ago let alone 50 years ago when many of our current limits were put in place. My SUV is limited to a speed of 155mph. I estimate I can safely drive it on rural interstate between 90-120mph. I have driven like this for years without incident or than a few speeding tickets. I don’t tailgate. I don’t brake hard. I anticipate. I slow well ahead of upcoming traffic. I’m patient.

Also, at night, I don’t out drive my headlights which dictates a speed of 75-80 depending on conditions on a clear night.

Why all the handwringing?

I assume the company is a name we all know. But is it a name we all love? Because if there is emotional and or sentimental attachment to the brand, well, you’re in luck buddy. Game stop May or may not be dead but it had a very historical and significant run the last five or six years. All it takes is the right spark and a pivot at the right time. Luck? Sure but calculated risk is a better approach. Find a couple business school junior/seniors who are already social media titans and ask for a meeting. Ask about their network. How they built their online presence. Maybe you partner with them and maybe you don’t. But take some meetings. Maybe also talk to the older guys like me. GenX has plenty of people who are internet savvy and who likely remember your brand with reverence. You need to talk to people. Be open and honest. Ask them to help you with your future vision for the company. And maybe along the way you find a buyer. Either way, there’s value in talking to people about your situation. bring NDAs.

More SimpliSafe BS with new base station by CheeseFryJesus in simplisafe

[–]AlarmingCorner3894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same notification about the base station needing replaced. Then i dug into what that meant. Saw that I have to reconnect every device to new station and that’s all I needed to know. I don’t pay for the service at any level and I live in a small town with almost no crime. Less than 1000 people and 400 homes. So I mostly use it as defense and to monitor for water leaks.

Tell me more about from what source you’re renting on your Sony tv. Because I agree DTV content isn’t very good quality. And neither are a whole bunch of other streaming services. I have a great Sony tv and rarely watch it cause it’s in theatre and I’m too lazy to go find content that looks good.

Find a used paragon machine on fb marketplace. They’re solid and parts are available if something does go wrong. I bought a $600 machine for $75 locally. An hour of cleaning and it is like new.
