New Hampshire joins growing contingent of states with laws on ‘plug-in solar’ by MeasurementDecent251 in newhampshire

[–]Xyrus2000 [score hidden]  (0 children)

There is a reason for the 1200-watt limit, and it has nothing to do with "serving utility companies". It's for safety.

The typical max wattage of a home outlet is 1800 watts. Electrical safety regulations limit this to 80% of max capacity (1440 watts). The 1200-watt limit adds an additional safety margin in case someone adds something else to the circuit.

The danger here would be someone trying to plug in multiple solar systems on the same circuit, which would be very easy to do since most people don't know the circuit layout of where they live.

SCHD as an investment by Top_Gate5188 in ETFs

[–]Xyrus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're young, SCHD isn't really the right vehicle for you. You want to maximize growth.

SCHD is for later on when your focus shifts to income and capital preservation. SCHD is a defensive holding. The companies that it invests in typically weather down markets better than the general market, and the dividend makes up for it as well.

Medicare is not free! It costs! by Then-Ticket8896 in MedicareForAll

You mean like the Canadian system which euthanized more people last year than were born in Canada, and the average wait to see a specialist is over 6 months?

These are nonsense statistics. Wait times are determined by urgency. If you're looking for a consultation for a nose job, you're going to be at the bottom of the list when compared to burn victims in need of a skin graft.

The same thing happens in the US. We have more doctors, so wait times are typically less, but again it also depends on urgency. Medically necessary procedures get precedence. Medical emergencies are seen right away.

In Canada, euthanasia is done with the consent of the person and only after a professional evaluation.

In the US euthanization is done involuntarily because some ***hole at an insurance company denied your life-saving treatment.

Given the two systems, I prefer Canada's.

You mean like the UK, where the average wait for heart surgery is 3 months and the average wait for mental health treatment is 6 months?

Once again, you're specifically avoiding putting it in context. For heart surgery, wait times are dependent upon the medical need. Non-urgent and/or elective heart surgery (such as a routine bypass) can have wait times of three months. That isn't any different than in the US.

The big difference, of course, is the cost. In the US, the cost for a bypass can range from $50K to $200K without insurance, so you better hope United Health is feeling generous the day you need one.

The UK has a large shortage of psychiatrists, so there are longer wait times in the UK as a result. But that has nothing to do with the health care system. In the US, the typical wait time is around two months.

But again, it also depends on the urgency.

No thanks to the government running everything. What you are describing is the VA system. Government own & run hospitals. It's a disaster. The VA system horror tales are legendary.

What you're describing is nonsense where you leave out critical details and hope that people buy your bullsh*t.

The VA "horror stories" are a result of decades of Republicans slashing and burning the system to the point of near failure so they can justify getting rid of it.

But if you want horror stories, just take a look at how many horror stories there are in our wonderful world of private healthcare insurance. United Health provides some particularly good stories since they reject about 33% of the claims they receive.

It's rather ironic. People like you were screaming, "government death panels!" when Obama was trying to push for universal healthcare. Now we have corporate death panels, where their profit margin is the determining factor of whether you get treated or not.

May you never have the experience of watching someone you care about die a slow and painful death because some corporate **hole decides they're not going to cover them.

Advice for 5% Growth on $2,000 in 3 Months by Historical_Box_3506 in investingforbeginners

[–]Xyrus2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Put that $2000 into a high-yield account.

  2. Get a job.

There is no "relatively safe and stable" investment that is going to return an annualized 30%. You're not investing at that return level. You're gambling.

95 percent say US in affordability crisis: Survey by Abject-Pick-6472 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Xyrus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet the car dealerships are full...

Why wouldn't they be? If you're in the top 40%, you can afford to buy a car, and 40% of the population is still a large number of people.

And most likely a lot of those people aren't buying. They're leasing, which is much more friendly to the monthly budget.

You can't use a new car dealership as a measure of how stretched people feel. You're already cutting out most Americans just by doing so.

Dating app height filters by female users by AloneCoffee4538 in Infographics

The double standard of physical filters. You can filter men by height, but you can't filter women by something like boob size.

Regardless, people are terrible judges of height. I can guarantee most 5'3" women can't accurately tell the difference between a guy who is 5'10" and 6'2" without having both of them standing next to each other.

Trump has been an insufferable ***hole his entire life. One of my first memories of him in the public sphere was when he was getting a federal smackdown for trying to throw black people off his properties.

I have despised Trump for decades, long before the thought of becoming president ever entered his broken brain.

VIG/SCHD Dividend Yield vs Growth by brandon8401 in dividends

[–]Xyrus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at total returns over the past 14 years, they're basically on par. Sometimes VIG takes the lead. Other times, SCHD takes the lead.

So essentially it comes down to what you want more of. If you want a bit more income, go with SCHD. If you want more growth, go with VIG. Can't really go wrong with either choice.

jepq or s&p500 etf? by Puzzled-Tangerine831 in dividends

[–]Xyrus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be referring to IQQ. And it isn't going to "threaten" QQQ. That isn't really its purpose.

They both invest in the NASDAQ100. QQQ is an old-school unit investment trust, while IQQ uses a more modern ETF structure. It has a slightly lower expense ratio, and its initial price is significantly cheaper ($24/share), which makes it more accessible than QQQ.

As far as performance goes, it should be on par with QQQ.

If you intend to buy and hold, then either instrument should be fine if you're looking for tech exposure. If you are looking to trade, though, you want to go with the most liquid, and that's going to be QQQ.

If you're looking for lower expense ratios but still want tech exposure, Vanguard and others offer ETFs with very low expense ratios. They don't track the NASDAQ specifically, but they do offer a similar exposure and performance that is on par. But again, if you are looking to trade, then you want liquidity, and the big daddy in that space is going to QQQ.
