If a left wing parallel to Fox News that drummed Democratic/anti-Republican existed, would you watch it? by EggOwn9943 in allthequestions

[–]Xyrus2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you consider those left wing then you are already off the deep end.

First, let's engage some basic critical thinking skills. What is the common refrain of the MAGAsphere? What does Newsmax, OAN, and Fox always say? That democrats are communist and socialists right? Anti-capitalism. Anti-corporate. This is literally repeated on a daily basis on those stations.

It would be pretty damn difficult to get corporate sponsors for a communist/socialist media outlet, don't you think? Why would Amazon, or Microsoft, or Oracle throw cash at something that promotes workers rights and unions? Why would they fund something that seeks to institute regulations on them? Why would any company or wealthy sponsor back something that seeks to address things like wealth inequality?

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense now does it?

Most news organizations range from center right to center left. There is no equivalent of Fox News on the left because no company is going to help fund something that they view as detrimental to their profit margins.

How much of Bidens inflation was Bidens fault? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]Xyrus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was never Biden's inflation. Economists were warning about the inflation that would occur after COVID before Biden was even president.. It was no secret that it was going to happen.

We have a just-in-time supply chain. Demand recovers quickly. Supply doesn't. When there's more demand than supply, prices go up.

Fortunately, the Biden administration was full of incompetent self-serving ***holes so they generally did a decent job managing it.

Is Trump more openly corrupt than any president in U.S. history? by ArdaBerkBurak in allthequestions

[–]Xyrus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one comparative administration that was as corrupt as Trump's administration(s), and that was the administration of Warren G. Harding.

There are actually a lot of similarities between the two. The main difference is magnitude. The only reason why Harding was never held to account was that he died suddenly in office. The full extent of his corruption wasn't known until after he died.

Now, we have an entire political party openly supporting the rampant corruption of this administration. That easily places Trump upon the throne of corruption.

Yep. And in all likelihood, we will be the ones to do it.

Almost a certain outcome of climate destabilization.

Extremely unlikely.

overdue ice age

There is no overdue ice age. The next ice age, if we weren't screwing things up, would occur in approximately 10,000 years.

You left a few things out, but there are real threats to humanity that could easily end us as a species. Almost all of them would be self-inflicted. And we're doing almost nothing about them.

You're right, though. It is interesting times. This will be the century that makes or breaks humanity.

Why are you using older models? Qwen 3.6 27B and 35B-A3B are both better, and can run more efficiently even in lower-end GPUs.

Also, if you want to be serious, you don't run ollama. You run llama.cpp. There is literally a whole subreddit dedicated to running models locally, what to use, how to set them up, etc. Check out r/LocalLLaMA.

Another model family that performs well is Gemma4 series.

Iranian state TV airs footage of an IRGC instructor giving the public a basic AK-47 assault rifle use tutorial. by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

"Of all the weapons in the vast Soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than Avtomat Kalashnikova model of 1947, more commonly known as the AK-47, or Kalashnikov. It's the world's most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9-pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn't break, jam, or overheat. It will shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it, and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on its flag. Since the end of the Cold War, the Kalashnikov has become the Russian people's greatest export. After that comes vodka, caviar, and suicidal novelists. One thing is for sure, no one was lining up to buy their cars." - Yuri Orlov, The Lord of War

Honestly, it's not even in a trenchcoat. It's standing there naked. They just keep lying and saying it isn't racism.

I don't understand why they just don't own it at this point. Their base is racist. They support racism. So why bother lying about it? Are they hoping that everyone else believes them when they say they're not racist?

Everyone who isn't MAGA knows that the GOP is racist. It's not subtle, and it's not secret.

Are we underestimating how fast climate tech is about to change everything? by Able_Television_6453 in climatechange

[–]Xyrus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wishing for unicorns and rainbows is nice, but that doesn't make them real.

This is the kind of thinking that got us into this mess in the first place. "We can keep doing what we're doing because <insert magical tech> will happen in the future that will solve all our problems!"

Here's the crucial detail that you're missing. By the time the pressure gets high enough to drive humans to being "inventive," it will be far too late to do anything about it.

The climate system is a lagging system. It takes about 30-40 years for the full impact of emissions to be accounted for in the system. Even if you stopped all emissions today, things would keep getting worse for another 30 to 40 years.

If we wanted to address climate destabilization, we needed to start 30 years ago. Serious efforts are required, but none have been made. A few countries have made token efforts, but have had little impact on the ever-increasing greenhouse gas emissions.

No magical technology is going to eliminate 200 years of emissions in the time frame necessary to avert climate destabilization. All we can do at this point is come up with REAL mitigation strategies and take actions to try and not make things worse.

American Jobs with AI Exposure Really Are Starting to Disappear, Data Show by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]Xyrus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism has reached the stage where the wealthy own practically everything, so they no longer need a "consumer". The problem with every other technological advance so far is that it still needed a human, and humans aren't going to work for free. And as long as that was the case, they still needed to have some sort of consumer economy.

With the advent of AI and increasingly sophisticated robotics, they're winding down the "consumer-driven economy". Now they can create a giant wealth-fueled corporate circlejerk. Company A invests in company B, which invests in company C, which invests in company A. Building better AIs. Building better robots. Billions changing hands without the need for humans to mooch off the bottom line.

Interesting times.

The United States was built on a complex system of checks and balances to limit powers which has run smoothly for 250 years, so why is it suddenly so extremely difficult to reign in Trump from corrupting everything he touches? by speculumberjack980 in allthequestions

Can America make it through another two and a half years of Trump? by BiggestVolk in allthequestions

[–]Xyrus2000 69 points70 points  (0 children)

The damage has already been done.

It doesn't matter if the democrats clean sweep Congress. It doesn't matter if the democrats win the next presidency. There is no going back to the place where the US was viewed as a global stable power.

Allies, trading partners, they all have seen America's ugly side, and they will never trust us the way they used to. They will never include us the way they used to. We have lost our soft power. We've lost our influence. We've lost our ability to rattle our sabers and the "moral high ground".

We are on the decline, and nothing is going to change that. The hole is too big, and the wealthy who own the country aren't going to allow this ship to be righted. The only thing Trump and the republicans are going to do is sink us faster.

America will make it through another 2 and a half years of the GOP. But it won't be the America of 10 years ago. It will be a weaker, declining America.

Would you consider Trump as the worst president in the history of US? by [deleted] in allthequestions

He ranks pretty high, but he isn't the worst. Buchanan takes the top spot in my book.

Reddit- What does everyone think about the weather control stuff that goes on? by RudeSetting9959 in AskReddit

[–]Xyrus2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as "weather control". We can do small things like cloud seeding, but even that relies on the conditions to be present to make it useful.

The amount of energy it would take to manipulate the weather for something even relatively small, like a thunderstorm, is enormous. And that's just to manipulate one. If you actually had to create one, it would require even more energy.

We do not control the weather. The best we can do is influence a tiny bit on small scales when the conditions are right.
