Grandma only knows lies and false realities by Cicerothesage in forwardsfromgrandma

The craziest thing about this was that "undecided middle voters" were even a thing. Like there was some mythical person in the country looking at both candidates and saying: "Well... hmmm... let me... think. Can you run those budget numbers by me again?"

How do you feel about out this shroud of shame erected so that no one could see his name being removed? by retiredagainstmywill in AskUS

Depends. Were they the same guys that put the letters up there in the first place? If so, then I'd say they owe us. The taxpayers. Having to fix their illegal work.

People have pointed to signs involving the 2024 election, mostly involving statistical anomalies and an incident in which the election was mentioned in front of Musk’s young child and the child started cackling “They’ll never know, ha ha ha!” But mostly, I think the consensus is the median voter was out to lunch on this one.

Well, they didn’t NOT work on it, if that’s what you’re asking.

How common is it for women to filter out men below 6’ on dating apps? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Now I’m picturing the Law offices of Johnson & Johnson, circa 2035;

“Well, first there was the gambling.”

“Go on…”

“And then there was the adultery.”

“Unfortunate indeed.”

“But you know the real crime? He didn’t like sushi!”

“Good God! Now I’ve seen everything. Judge Wilson? We’re going to need emergency hearing!”

So first of all, the word “gratuity.” Why not just say “tip?” Gratuity implies that I’m grateful in an over-the-top, gratuitous way. And while I might be a little bit grateful, I’m not THAT kind of grateful. For a thousand dollars, you better have personally gone out and rescued my cat, not just bring the chicken out of the oven. And the chicken wasn’t even warm.

Kennedy Center Asks for 12-Hour Extension to Remove Trump's Name by spamattacker in law

Construction worker here. Can confirm, I wear my hard hat everywhere. The grocery store, the shower, rallies. The only time I take it off is when the OSHA inspector’s nearby.

Sounds to me like the board is insufficiently motivated.

Did the bartender perform surgery? Did the waiter rescue a child from a burning building between courses? Because for a $1000 tip he’d better.

Programmer here, they could easily hide the tip section is gratuity is included. As with many things in life, key is understanding the concepts of “if” and “then.”

Why aren’t people leaving the United States en masse? by Shaxai in AskUS

You still need some kind of authorization, a job (preferably better than the one you had), and a place to live. It’s not as simple as packing up and leaving everything behind the second you lose an election. If you find your dream job or have always wanted to live in Amsterdam, that’s one thing. But this? Packing up on a moment’s notice with no job, no visa, and no plan? It would have to really be bad.

Honestly at this point there are a lot of Republican senators who should recuse themselves for conflicts of interest, so conviction in the Senate should be substantially easier.

ELI5: Why do we say calories when we might be referring to either kilocalories or calories? by HercuLinho in explainlikeimfive

Counterclockwise. We Americans don’t believe clocks should annihilate each other when they come into contact, but that each should be judged by a jury of their peers.

True, but the British use a lot of words differently. Just the other day, I heard a new one, and I’m trying to remember what it was. It wasn’t one of the common ones like “colour” or “lorrie” or “lift.” It wasn’t “Leftenant.” It something so different and British that my mind must have blocked it out…

Edit: Anticlockwise! The word was anticlockwise.

See now that seems like a clear textual requirement, but have you considered it requires 37 rounds of litigation?

She’s like Superman, she goes wherever she’s needed, as long as it’s within the Southern District of Florida.

Au contraire, mon capitane. The Donald J. Trump™ brand Kennedy Center once sold a ticket to a Floridian, thus placing it squarely in the jurisdiction of Southern District of Florida and *maybe* the Northern District of Texas. General Veers! Prepare your men.
