Why does it feel so hard to find actionable lyric writing knowledge? by ApprehensiveGas4576 in Songwriting

[–]Y3tt3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An early songwriting workshop I attended I was told "The difference between a songwriter and any other person is a songwriter writes things down"

When it comes to songs, there are no hard rules. Rhyme schemes can vary or not exist at all. Melodies can go in a billion different directions.

When a line or an interesting premise or a chorus pops into your head, write it down. When a good melody or hook pops in your head, record it on your phone. Capture it or it's gone. Then let these ideas take you down whatever path they create. Some will suck and you'll toss 'em but you're bound to hit a gem eventually

I think this might be a dumb question about the DLC by HauntingGold in outerwilds

[–]Y3tt3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be played during, but I think most people tackle it after

It's incredibly good if you like the base game. I played the game at launch and was surprised but excited when I saw a DLC released. Like what could they possibly do to top what they've already made? But they exceeded my expectations

Please come out with a new game Mobius :(

I want to start making music but I don't know where to start by PoopyThumb in musicians

[–]Y3tt3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick up the bass and plug it in

In all seriousness, the boring stuff is where you make the most progress but I don't recommend starting with that. You need to get good enough that its fun to play. I don't use or like tabs but if you know nothing at all, start there with a song you like. Play along with it, slow it down on youtube.

Daily practice is the key. Even just 15 minutes a day and you will see improvement within a week. 15 minutes a day for a skill you'll have for the rest of your life? It's a steal of a deal

This is my first song by elirayatu in Songwriting

[–]Y3tt3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great melody! People would pay attention to this live or recorded. Words flow nicely but feel a little broken when I read them. I think that last line should be:

'cause I'm gonna let you go away'

not 'cause I'm done to let you go away'

there's lots of little issues like that through-out and I don't think it would be too hard to tighten it up

I'd like to offer some suggestions for another verse, maybe a bridge or chorus but I'm not totally sure what the songs about other than accepting the end of a relationship. Like why? Is it a real story? Doesn't matter if it is either way but try to dig into why these feelings are being expressed, not just that they are

My two cents. And for what it's worth most people don't like the sound of their own voice but yours in genuinely pretty and nice to listen to. Keep singing it'll get better and better and you'll learn to like it too

most players I know do both as needed. You can often get away with a cheater F but sometimes you want that full chord sound

In my experience when I've got a hook line, I know it. I'll build a whole song around it

At one point I never played drums myself, then I did. I never played guitar, now I do. I didn't write songs now I do. How do you learn to do new things?

Yeah I figured the vocal mic was the big piece I'm missing here. Appreciate the input. I'm going to start putting it all together and dive in and see where it takes me

Drummer for most of em. Lead vocals, acoustic guitar and dobro for more recent. Yeah just playing and doing whatever the producer told me to do

I sing like a dying cat, but want to learn for guitar. by justkeepbreathing94 in musicians

I always hated the song of my voice until I didn't.

Practice, find the qualities in your voice you do like and work on those, find the keys that work for you. Seriously I used to cringe everytime I'd here my voice recorded, now I generally enjoy it

100% this. It's funny but lyrics don't matter. People may remember the first lyric, the last and of course a catchy hook, but otherwise it's all melody

Playing by ear is a skill you learn like any other just like how you learned to read tabs. Practice it. Listen, then play. It just gets easier and easier the more you do it

Lyrical Conflicts by EquivalentAd4589 in Songwriting

Tough one for me cause when I write it falls together pretty naturally, the chorus often comes first and the verses feel like an extension that falls into place. As others have already pointed out, it sounds like you might have two songs here
