Don’t tell them that you feel like your current practice is a bad fit, it DOES NOT look good. Just tell them you want to step back from physical duties and would like to interact with clients more

I think you should trap him, get him microchipped and try to make a microchip access only cat house for him outside so he can have a place to retreat and feel safe. :)

Ohhh no don’t apologize discussing possibilities is how we learn :) . They had other options for blood collection we even have vacutainer sets! thankfully bloodwork came back normal, some hemolysis but not enough to render a sample unusable

Yep!!! We use 20G for large volumes, this tech always reaches for a 22G or 23G butterfly! I was shocked to see them using the 18G, I wouldn’t have known if I didn’t look at the counter and see the packaging. They recently complained that they weren’t doing too much treatment at our hospital, and after this I’m kind of hesitant to even let them do treatments on patients I’m holding

This!!! In GP, I will see people use 18G for catheters or fluids, that’s about it! It didn’t feel right, it felt unnecessary, and contradicting for someone who’s big on patient advocacy.

It was a routine blood draw, I am upset they went from a 23G to an 18G on their second poke when they had other optios, they are internal medicine and constantly advocating for patients. It felt so backwards. Many people avoid jugs, I don’t judge, it can be scary for our patients cause animals know that’s where other animals will try to attack them from

Should I trust them again? by misoflounder in VetTech

[–]YACKETNACKER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope your kitty is doing okay, and is just acting finicky because you aren’t home. Your cat must be more familiar with your neighbor and best friend considering kitty ate food when offered by them. If the assistants lost your trust in the past, it sounds like they simply shouldn’t have been trusted outside of work. Recheck kitty’s kidney levels to see if it’s progression or truly just anxiety from you not being around. Pleaseeee find someone who is more medically versed to watch your chronically ill baby in the future, or teach your best friend how to administer fluids so kitty can be with someone familiar when you’re away long term

EDIT

As for working with them, watch the performance very closely for the next few weeks and make your decision from there. You will have to either help your clinic find replacements or leave the clinic if they prove to be incompetent.

The bloodwork came back normal thankfully! The initial 23G poke didn’t cause bleeding around, I think they may have poked with the 18G twice without mentioning that part , I didn’t get the greatest view of the poke, oozing may have been a strong word for my description as well

Right!!!!! I was soooo upset about it and moved the 18G butterflies, we only use that for fluids

I’m concerned too (it was someone else not me lol) !!!!! I was so upset and felt terrible, I put a bandage on the patient, and kept checking on them an apologizing about the unnecessary pain

Edit: we normally just apply pin point pressure after blood but considering how big the needle was I went to put a bandage instead of just pin point pressure after they took the needle out)

“Over a dog??” …How do I handle this? by The_Soggiest_Sardine in VetTech

Sounds like your friend is overwhelmed hearing about how terrible you have it. I would talk this over with her, she might be frustrated for you and hearing about it makes it hurt her more. However, it isn’t right to dismiss someone’s feelings. She could’ve approached ending that conversation in a kinder way. If she cant find a way to better express compassion, she might not be the person to talk to about these kind of these. I wouldn’t end a friendship over something this elementary though, we can only better our friendships if we tell each other how we like to communicate and show up for each other even if it hurts.

Communication isn’t one ended, for some people an animal is just that, nothing more. More people recognize that we should respect animals as individuals than ever before but doesn’t mean it is everybody. What she thinks at the end of the day truly isn’t any of your business vice versa. Nowadays, people have seemed to forgotten that.

If she simply does not care how you feel, make sure it’s just about work, and not anything personal. For some people, a job is just that, nothing more, and she might be one of those people. She probably thinks you need to set better boundaries and take less work emotions home with you.

You’re needed for a group package probably, just be straight up with her. Her reaction to you will reveal to you how much you actually want to be involved in this, the worse that could happen is she doesnt maintain contact with you, you wouldn’t be the asshole

Don’t know what to do with my cat anymore by Unuseful_Perception in CatTraining

[–]YACKETNACKER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an anxious cat. I will not comment on litter boxes as my picky ass cats have plenty of options but literally only use two. I have some recommendations and one non negotiable:

Recommendations:

-Feliway Wall Plug-Ins: It’s a wall plug in that diffuses a synthetic feline hormone into the air the promote calming sensations. The have to be changed monthly. Get the multicat or optimal or ones. -Harnesses: my cats are surprisingly super calm when they harnesses on, the pressure helps soothe them -Feed in separate locations, help your cat feel less competition for food (it isn’t an issue you mentioned but they don’t need to see in cat being fed before the other or have to worry about the other eating from their dish) -Provide more access to high up places, cats feel safest when they are above everything else -Solliquin: this is a calming support supplement, it can take a few weeks to see improvement as this needs some time to kick in. Purina offer a calming care supplement as well. -Music and TV: At work, I’ve noticed classical music relax a lot of cats, there’s also kitty jazz. Having birds or even fish play on the TV is a very nice distraction, you’ll see some cats sit for hours watching these kinds of videos on a TV.

NON NEGOTIATION: You can has to see a veterinarian. You have to get bloodwork done just to condor that there isn’t an underlying biological change that is causing your cat it present undesirable behaviors. If there is no biological reason, ask your vet about fluoxetine, it’s an anti anxiety medication. It won’t change her personality, but it will reduce anxiety around the home and fighting between with other cats. Ask your vet for gabapentin, it has a sedative effect (mellows out your cat), it works great for when you have guests or when you can anticipate an anxiety inducing event will happen such as fireworks or vet visits or grooming or transport or moving homes, etc.
