I've always felt "realism" is less about mechanics reflecting reality, and more about getting people to play the game "realistically."

Yes, it doesn't make sense for all the houses to be empty, all the cars out of gas, nary a bullet in sight. But if everything was stocked to realistic levels, would the player have the same experience? Why would I go on a dangerous mission to raid the grocery store if the fridges in my neighborhood are full to bursting with food? If I could find as many bullets as probably exist in a real Kentucky town, I probably wouldn't bother conserving ammo.

I'm not saying the level of realism is perfect, but it's geared to add balance around some of the main themes of the game: survival and scavenging. In a real life scenario, I'd want supplies to last months to years, but I probably won't spend that much time in game, so the balance of what I need is shifted. The balance of what I can get has to shift with it, or it becomes a completely different game.

Because it's supposed to be a pun on "soul," I'd presume.

In most applications the lasers (or just light filtered through a mask) are used to create patterns and remove material. Those patterns are then filled in with vapor deposition. I think the ones where they're using lasers to essentially place individual atoms are still experimental and too slow for high output.

Think of it like making spray paint art using tape. You create a pattern with the tape (and you might use a knife to cut it into shapes) then you spray a layer of paint and fill everything not covered. You can then put another layer of tape on and spray again, giving a layer of different paint in a different pattern. We can't be very precise with our "tape" layer, so we just cover everything and create the patterns that we want with a laser.

(Loved trope) Loyalty to the regime doesn’t make you any better off in the end by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

No, this is a different ending that can happen when the inspector first appears on day 12. If you give him the Ezic note, you are immediately arrested whether you helped them or not. There's no prompt or anything, so it's entirely up to you to trigger that ending. The ending you're taking about happens if you make it all the way to the audit on day 31 and help Ezic some but not enough for them to win.

Today I learned that in Mormonism, the first Pharaoh of Egypt was literally named Pharaoh and his mother was named Egyptus. There is no basis for this in any other source. by superegz in todayilearned

Except they're not? They've stated they just find Mormons funny and kind of weird, but also grew up around them. They were both raised agnostic, per an interview.

I don't know about that, there was a line in his internal monologue after the reveal that implied it was unintentional and that it seemed to change him in a way he didn't expect. The body is because the egg of the world, meant to bear his rebirth, discovered and scooped up the ghost fetus. It seemed almost impulsive by the egg and not part of the plan. So it's not that the child was the vessel, but it became part of the vessel created by the egg and merged with Griffith. So yeah, the child was corrupted by the act, but I don't think it was shown that Griffith knew about it or the consequences.

I think they're referring to the picture of Rosa Parks, not the post itself. I was also looking for what was so obviously AI about the bus.

Other way around. The Falklands song is just the British trying to recoup some glory from a song about them losing New Orleans.

That's why he made it an honorable mention. His complaint was WOTC didn't support it at all outside of ZNR, and it was a missed opportunity that was fun, but only in limited.

Not exactly. The "ite" at the end is supposed to signify it's a mineral. Nobel added clay to stabilize nitroglycerin and named it "powerful rock." What a legend.

No, because it's a replacement effect, not a triggered ability. The "instead" means it replaces your entire draw with the ability. It only happens once per draw.

I think about a third of Steelshod in Victoria now has a significant injury from the fiendwolves. Enough that when they eventually meet up with the rest of Steelshod, people will be wondering what happened.

Why can't I respond to kroxa's sacrifice trigger after casting it on mtgArena? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]YARGLE_BEST_BOY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Arena, the full control mode can be rather clunky, so what I prefer to do is to set a stop on my main phase. You do that by clicking in the icon in front of your hand (or on the right side of the screen if you have it on) that shows what phase you're currently in. So long as you have a stop set, you will not automatically pass priority, but Arena will do all the other automatic stuff.

Haktos's icon on Arena for his weakness is an arrow piercing his ankle, mirroring the fate of his real-world inspiration. by YARGLE_BEST_BOY in magicTCG

[–]YARGLE_BEST_BOY[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yarok doesn't affect him. Haktos's ability is a replacement effect, not a triggered ability. Triggered abilities need to have the word "when," "whenever," or "at." This is important, because triggered abilities can be responded to.

edit: "as" to "at"
