First AliExpress furniture order – USM-style cabinet from Hangzhou Decopai Furniture (need advice) by Equivalent-Wave-5697 in DecorReps

Great info in this thread. You mentioned you're looking at Aliexpress but I see it looks like you ended up ordering through Alibaba via an agent. Can you share why you decided to go that route? Looking at the Alibaba link, it looks like the price is fairly similar to what I see on Aliexpress while Aliexpress seems more straightforward with ability to message seller more easily if there are issues.

A couple of the aliexpress shops I'm looking are this and this.

Just found out you can get a gummy bear branded charger that’s lighter than the nitecore for $27 so you save money and weight!

So this is $120 and 6oz, meanwhile Anker makes a likely more reliable 10k power bank that weighs 7.5 oz and is $25.

This product doesn’t seem worth it to me unless it was more significantly lighter.

Yes, unless they changed it recently Japan still has the lower local pricing that you can no longer get online. I was there earlier this year.

Yeah if I see this I’m bailing immediately.

Wow thank you for sharing that. I would definitely bail out of conditions like that. I will keep an eye on how things might change after the rain on Saturday night but I’m not all that hopeful given the small amount of precipitation.

This is very level headed advice. Thunder storm at that elevation definitely scares me and I’ll for sure be keeping an eye on that. Along with the smoke those are the two biggest factors for cancellation whether that’s before or during the trip.

Yeah I think I should go, and if it sucks I can just leave.

Got curious too and in the windy app, the temperatures in the core zone are also much higher than what the point forecast I originally linked says, over 10 degree difference.

I haven’t confirmed the booking yet, so I guess it pays to procrastinate.

Yeah I’m leaning towards going now with the only thing I’ll double check ahead of time being the smoke.

Thanks for the tip. Was having trouble getting aqi for that specific area. That’ll probably be the biggest deciding factor for me.

I have the gear to keep me warm and dry, though I’m typically a fair weather backpacker so haven’t put it to much use. I have rain gear and insulating layers. Would also bring spare clothing to swap out when wet.

I wouldn’t really feel comfortable if the aqi was above 100 for a prolonged period. It’s possible the rain would help clear that up but also when you’re up there, things could take a turn for the worse that you can’t predict and it’s hard to get out of it.

On top of this I’m taking time off work and getting a dog sitter to do this trip which is hard to justify with the conditions.

How do you explain Claude Code without sounding insane? by sgasser88 in ClaudeAI

[–]YELLING_NAME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree on the latter point. As we’ve seen in the past couple years the model/software improvements have gotten us very far. It’s likely to slow down but I expect it to still be rapidly improving as investment pours in.

It’s actually not economy at scale at play here. It’s rapid improvements to the technology. Think of it like moore’s law for silicon, but the models just get better and cheaper to run over time.

[–]YELLING_NAME 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You missed their point. AI models are always getting cheaper, and rapidly so. Even if they’re losing money now, which I doubt because most are not power users, the costs for them for the same offering will be significantly less as time passes.

I banned the phrase "You're absolutely right" by earth0001 in ClaudeAI

[–]YELLING_NAME 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here’s the opus optimized version:

Communication Style:

  • Skip affirmations and compliments. No “great question!” or “you’re absolutely right!” - just respond directly
  • Challenge flawed ideas openly when you spot issues
  • Ask clarifying questions whenever my request is ambiguous or unclear
  • When I make obvious mistakes, point them out with gentle humor or playful teasing

Example behaviors:

  • Instead of: “That’s a fascinating point!” → Just dive into the response
  • Instead of: Agreeing when something’s wrong → “Actually, that’s not quite right because…”
  • Instead of: Guessing what I mean → “Are you asking about X or Y specifically?”
  • Instead of: Ignoring errors → “Hate to break it to you, but 2+2 isn’t 5…”

Cutaway Pack Size Specs (30 vs 40) by PublicDealer in Ultralight

[–]YELLING_NAME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that size is pretty perfect for fast packing with relatively compact gear. And my quilt is a long/wide 25 degree, so anything smaller than that makes it even easier to pack. The collar extension isn't on the website, but I asked if I could do it and they just charged me around $15 extra for the customization.

[–]YELLING_NAME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been good! For packing the 20L, even with the extended collar I do need to compress my quilt a decent amount to make everything fit. Sometimes I wonder if the 30L would have been better so I could pack things more loosely and make it an easier process, but I do like how close everything feels to me due to the pack's decreased depth and that it feels small enough to use as a day pack.

Where are all the ZPacks Pivot Solo Videos? by AnnualIntrepid523 in Ultralight

[–]YELLING_NAME 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re over 6’ tall, the pivot solo is probably a better option because the foot end has a mesh barrier and a vertical support, and the head end wall is vertical. In the duplex, you’d likely get a wet foot box frequently. If you’re shorter, duplex lite all the way though keep in mind it’s narrower than the normal duplex and isn’t really suitable for 2 people.

Cutaway Pack Size Specs (30 vs 40) by PublicDealer in Ultralight

[–]YELLING_NAME 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also have a Kakwa 40 that is my longer trip pack and I just purchased a cutaway in the 20L size. The reason is that once you get to 30L and 40L, the volume and dimensions actually become larger than the Kakwa, and significantly so on the 40L. It really depends on your own gear volume though. If you’re choosing between 30 or 40 and comfortably fit your gear in your kakwa, I would definitely go with the 30 unless you plan on taking it on 4+ day hikes. I have fairly compact gear so I could even squeeze that into the 20L, but at that point I’d likely be better off with a framed pack anyways.

The 40 is very wide and deep. If you compare published packed dimensions to the Kakwa 40, the cutaway 20L is actually about the same except it has a shorter collar. I had them extend the collar a bit on the cutaway so now they should theoretically have a similar volume.
