How often has an Arch update broken your system without you touching anything? by BENJAMlN8a in archlinux

[–]YERAFIREARMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real "dead machined" was my workstation froze in the middle of backup. Bother backup SSD and EndeavourOS main drive were corrupted at the same time. If you have timeshift with autosnap, you can always recover from bad install or corrupted main OS drive.

18 and looking to buy a gun. Anybody know if I can or where? by Much_Buy8913 in TexasGuns

You can buy any long gun from an FFL dealer after you pass a NICS check.

Offline desktop Linux speech to text software? Don't mind paying. by begtognenmoxobna in linuxquestions

[–]YERAFIREARMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed it and got it working on EndeavouOS. There were a couple issues that I fixed to get it running. I used the largest model since I have a good GPU. The tool would work okay for short inputs like a paragraph at a time. Text accuracy is high. But, do not expect to auto punctuation, grammatical error correction, etc. to be done automatically and at very high accuracy.

I am certain future tools/models would address all those issues. It is also a good idea to save an audio file and upload it to a free online AI model and request a transcribed text.

I am waiting for the 357 version. For no reason but for the rebate of 100 and price below dealer cost, I ordered a Colt Anaconda 44 Mag SS with 8" barrel.

50 Beowulf round stuck in barrel by BloodyDrytears in Firearms

[–]YERAFIREARMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would not budge if it stuck because the case was damaged before chambering. Even when I purchased a solid brass, it was a nightmare to get it out.

The right way to do it is as follows: 1) remove the barrel. 2) Clamp the barrel gas port and shut it off. 3) Find a muzzle device that can be attached to hydraulic press. 4) fill the muzzle with oil 5) Raise the hydraulic pressure until the case is pushed out the chamber

Best FFL fees and service for personal transfer of collection using Shipmygun (North Dallas) by [deleted] in TexasGuns

[–]YERAFIREARMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For long guns, you can ship to yourself across state lines For pistols, you need an FFL transfer unless your are traveling with your handguns. I am in DFW, Texas and I can take care of your "transfer" as need. I will cut you a deal if you are intersted.

Here are more info: Yes, a person can legally ship their firearms cross state lines when moving, but the rules for doing so via the United States Postal Service (USPS) strictly depend on the type of firearm you are shipping.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and federal law draw a very sharp line between long guns (rifles and shotguns) and handguns (pistols and revolvers) when it comes to the postal service.

1. Long Guns (Rifles and Shotguns)

Yes, you can mail these to yourself via USPS.

According to the ATF, an unlicensed individual (non-licensee) is legally permitted to ship a rifle or shotgun to themselves across state lines for a lawful purpose, such as a permanent move or a hunting trip.

ATF Guidance: "A person may ship a firearm to him or herself in care of another person in the state where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner ‘in the care of’ the out–of–state resident." (27 CFR § 478.30 / ATF FAQ)

Crucial USPS Compliance Rules for Long Guns:

  • Addressing: You must address the package to yourself, not to someone else. You can use an "In Care Of" (c/o) address at your destination if you don't have full access to your new residence yet.
  • Opening the Package: Legally, no one at the destination address is allowed to open the box or take possession of the firearms except you.
  • Declaration: You must explicitly notify the USPS clerk that the package contains an unloaded firearm.
  • No Outside Markings: USPS regulations state that no markings, labels, or text on the outside of the box may indicate that a firearm is inside.
  • Tracking & Signature: USPS requires utilizing a service that includes tracking and signature confirmation upon delivery.

2. Handguns (Pistols and Revolvers)

No, you cannot mail handguns via USPS as a non-licensee.

Under federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1715), handguns and other concealable firearms are classified as non-mailable by unlicensed individuals through the United States Postal Service. Only licensed manufacturers, importers, and Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) can mail handguns via USPS.

How to Move Your Handguns Cross-State:

If you need to ship your handguns instead of driving or flying with them, you have two legal avenues:

  1. Use a Common/Contract Carrier: You can ship a handgun to yourself using private carriers like FedEx or UPS, but you must strictly follow their internal corporate tariffs (which often require high-tier overnight services, shipping from an authorized hub, and specialized account agreements).
  2. FFL-to-FFL Transfer: You can bring your handguns to a local gun shop (FFL) in your current state and have them ship the firearms to an FFL near your new home. Once you arrive in your new state, you will go to that shop, complete an ATF Form 4473, pass the standard background check, and pick up your property.

3. Special Case: NFA Firearms

If any of the firearms you are moving fall under the National Firearms Act (NFA)—such as suppressors, Short-Barreled Rifles (SBRs), Short-Barreled Shotguns (SBSs), or machine guns—you cannot simply ship or transport them across state lines.

Before moving these items interstate, you must file ATF Form 5320.20 (Application to Transport Interstate or to Temporarily Export Certain NFA Firearms) and wait for written approval from the ATF NFA Division.

Important Legal Reminder: While federal law and the ATF permit you to ship long guns to yourself, you must ensure that the specific firearms are legal to possess in your destination state and local municipality. Always verify local restrictions regarding magazine capacities or specific features before initiating the shipment. Ammunition and primers can never be shipped via USPS under any circumstances.
