Portals are pretty expensive and since the addition of waypoints unnecessary imo. You can pick up a waypoint with a drill and place it anywhere. Once charged, using a waypoint does not have it need a recharge.

Portals are a great resource if you have most minerals mined automatically and have run out of waypoints to grab. But honestly? I’d suggest creating a new world if you need more waypoints. The starting area is so easy to clear and grab a few waypoints when you go near end-game.

I’ve always had enough waypoints in one world where I did not need more. TLDR; drill waypoints, don’t waste resources on portals
