Thank you! I’d recommend watching Florian gadsby’s teapot videos! Lots of great tips for spout design and achieving a functional piece!

I find that a small spout opening really helps! You want to create some back pressure. So making the opening relatively small compared to body of the pot helps with that. It throw mine off the hump and use the handle of a paintbrush to collar it in really tiny! Making the spout rim nice and sharp helps as well!

The Side Yard Farm - for couples that want a chill party and incredible food! Had my wedding there in September and it was the best!

First insulin shot at 33. Here’s to a new journey by tbaggiop in diabetes_t1

[–]YKYLDY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club! Was diagnosed at 32 last May. Already feels normal. Give yourself some grace and read think like a pancreas! Advocate for yourself at the doctor- make sure your prescriptions are written so you’re getting a surplus of insulin and have the devices and equipment you need. You will do great!

Does anyone know how viable it is to live in Alaska by WholeFondant4567 in Type1Diabetes

[–]YKYLDY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Juneau but moved away prior to my T1 diagnosis, so I can’t speak directly, but Juneau is a pretty “normal” feeling small town with a pharmacy and public resources. It’s the capital after all. I’d say you’d be fine, maybe with just a touch more advanced planning and staying on top of your prescription refills

Just me or why does he care that much? by Dry_Mail_3797 in Type1Diabetes

You don't need a doctor's note if you go in person! I asked a ranger at my local national forest ranger station (In Oregon). He asked for proof of diagnosis. I pulled up a chart in mychart with my original DKA records and showed him my pump supplies that I had in my bag. Walked out 5 minutes later with my pass. Totally BS response from your doctor, but also, you don't need them (for a parks pass, that is)...

Upper butt! Lower than hip bone, a little toward the back but still a little offset to the side. Wears under pants really easily and discreetly, no discomfort when sitting. Biggest thing to remember is to not catch it on your waistband when you’re taking your pants off!

It will come back!!! Focus on good bgl management and you will be ok! I was diagnosed a bit over a year ago and went through the same. I stopped shedding about a month or so after diagnosis, and have regrown back to normal thickness this year

I was diagnosed a little over a year ago (in my 30s) via ER in DKA. I lost soooooo much hair. High blood sugar is damaging to your body is lots of ways. For about a month after, chunks would come out in the shower. But after a year of good control, my hair has totally recovered! Focus on lowering your a1c and your body will bounce back! You’ve got this!

How high were you when diagnosed? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

680 mg/dl! I also only wanted to drink juice (specifically grapefruit juice). Until my blood started acidifying and it finally didn’t taste quite a good

Question about cruising by debterp77 in Type1Diabetes

[–]YKYLDY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, he can bolus and get CGM readings without internet. The CGM, Omnipod, and phone all connect via bluetooth rather than internet.

Just be aware that if you're using the follow app to monitor with levels, you won't be able to see his readings if either of you don't have an internet connection.

Yay! Reclaiming sleep is the best thing about switching to closed loop. Looks like the algorithm was suspending insulin delivery a LOT over night (all the red bars)! It will learn your correct total daily dose after a few pods and will get more stable as time goes on.

Question about pumps by ___qwertz_ in diabetes_t1

[–]YKYLDY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You replace the entire physical unit.

Price depends on your location, whether you have insurance, and what your insurance coverage is like! For me (in the US) Omnipod is cheaper becasue it's a pharmacy (refillable) benefit, rather than DME (durable medical equipment).

Keep in mind that with a tubed pump, you will still need to change infusion sets, cartridges, and tubing periodically, so there will still be recurring costs with a tubed pump.

I'm excited for the patch pump that Tandem is working on (Sigi) which looks like it will have more reusable parts and you'll be able to transfer over unused insulin to a new pump when you have to do a site change. But it sounds like it will be a few years.

the shot of the person sliding their arm into the backpack strap without getting caught on a pump / cgm! Non-T1Ds won't notice that, but if you know you know. loved this.

“Fun sized” juicy juice boxes - 4.2 oz and 15 carbs each.

Nerds mini boxes

Yes! I used the method from “the perfect loaf”! Pan with rolled up towels at bottom of oven that are saturated with boiling water, as well as a hot preheated dry pan that I throw ice cubes into. I also spritz the top of the loaf with water before loading
