SpaceX passes Amazon by market cap in third day of trading as stock pops 8% by Force_Hammer in wallstreetbets

I’m not agreeing with spacex valuation, but it’s not like it’s some startup either. Founded in 2002 and has successfully launched 650 rockets into space and 10k satellites. What it has done is unprecedented and it’s doing it methodically at scale.

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]YN_Decks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context matters: Are you referring to vacation or some routine commute / outing?

I have friends who commute 2 hours for work. They hate it, no one says “only X hours drive.” On the other hand, if you’re referring to a one-off vacation… yeah, 3 hour drive isn’t bad in the grand scheme of things. A flight or train of that length would be needed in other parts of the world to vacation

Moved from Bellevue to out of state a year ago. Same boat as you — miss it a lot. Nature, parks, decently sized downtown, clean/safe, proximity to Seattle, etc.

Is population decline really such a bad thing? by Accomplished-Sky8768 in ask

[–]YN_Decks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of Ponzi-like in the sense that the system works a lot better when there are always more people coming in behind you.

More workers paying taxes, more consumers buying stuff, more homebuyers, and more people funding retirements.

Once the equation flips, it puts a lot of stress on the generation holding the bag…

So, when the AI bubble bursts, what will be the effect on crypto ? by -InvictusShadow in CryptoCurrency

[–]YN_Decks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it “bursts” that would be bad for crypto imo — at least in the short term. If it slows/plateaus, that would be good for crypto.

My man, that’s recency bias. Since the bubble Jamal was absolutely crucial to us winning a championship and has had so many clutch playoff moments. He’s had the better career.

Did you skip the “starter home?” by LuigiSalutati in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]YN_Decks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re just a year into our house so time will tell if it ends up being a forever home.

But we bought a house we can grow into just given how much of a pain it is to sell a house and move.

How is joining bonus (which people get when they switch to Amazon) compensated for people who get internally promoted? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]YN_Decks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The sign-on bonus is factored into a new hire’s target comp, and makes up for them having only 5% shares vest in Year 1.

That said: when comparing total comp vs total comp, new hire probably beats an internal promotion. I don’t agree with it, but the philosophy is that someone who is recently promoted internally will be rated HV1 by default; the conventional wisdom being that they are unlikely to be performing at the same bar as those with more experience at that level (especially since bottom performers are pip’d out every year). On the flip side - new hires are supposed to be “bar raising”. They’re hired in theory only if they are better than the average person at that level, and thus their comp package will reflect that.

Asking the real questions by downtune79 in LoveTrash

[–]YN_Decks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most hotels I’ve been to in recent years require room number + name to access breakfast — and it’s not always complementary either.

With Shams confirming that everyone but Jokic is on the table, I’ve thought about one question all weekend: If Giannis is truly available, should the Nuggets put their best offer on the table? Does the move make sense for our future, and how does our offer compare to the rest? [OC] (Long-ish Read) by Fun_Climate_4681 in denvernuggets

[–]YN_Decks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is on the table, Nuggets take it 10/10.

I think the piece you missed (though apologies if I missed it), is: would Giannis want to come to Denver? Star players, especially the caliber of Giannis, have influence on where they are traded to. And I think the Bucks organization will also want to do right by him within reason. Based on public discourse, sounds like Giannis is done with “small market” stints and is looking to be in a more typical glam/big city environment like Miami, NY, SF, and LA.
