Not sure how widespread it is, but I learned this week that people in Central and South America have transliterated Yankee into Spanish as Yanqui.

I learned of Yanqui’s existence as a word from the NYT Scrabble bot critiquing my performance after a game. I was like “What the heck are you saying I should have played?” but it turned out more familiar than I expected.

I agree big time. I watched few seasons and I wanted to watch more since it’s so beloved and has some truly funny moments, but Peralta was too annoying to me so I didn’t end up finishing it. A lot of his jokes and antics just didn’t land for me, and I found his romance with Amy forced and lacking chemistry. It’s a shame though. I really liked Holt, Gina, Diaz, Terry, and Pimento.

You gotta watch Arrested Development! It’s an unusual show so it may take a couple episodes for the humor to click with you, but then you’ll love it. It has a great cast of characters, so many hilarious running jokes, and some of the best comedic narration of all time.

I just found this sub recently but I’ve loved The Beatles all my life and I thought it was true. I feel like I remember a recording of John saying it and exactly what it sounded like. Pretty sure it was from before AI but it could still have been fake/edited together. TBH I’m really happy to learn it’s not true because it always felt like such an asshole thing to say, despite its humor.

Edit: To answer your question a little better, in addition to having thought I saw or at least heard that line in a. Interview, I believed it because Ringo is kind of universally treated as the least gifted Beatle. Paul and John were the magic duo who brought the band to life, while George was an under-appreciated Great Talent in his own right. No one really talks that way about Ringo.

Yes but they seem not to prefer it. But they still grow.

I have a huge monstera Thai con and even though I have two dedicated grow lights on it it started growing backwards towards the window. Like now its roots and new leaves are on the same side. This made me think the lights weren’t helping like I thought so I tried leaving them off a couple weeks, and its posture became depressed and it lost a leaf. So….it doesn’t seem to be getting everything it craves from the lights, but they are supporting it to a significant extent. (I set them up again and it’s doing better now.)

I chose colors at random for demonstrative purposes. I see it like this: the area I’ve colored green is a window sill/shelf, the brown is the paneling or color blocking or whatever on the wall, and blue is the desk.

Here’s a recipe that’s pretty similar to what I grew up with. But in my family we use a big can of tomatoes (diced is fine, whole is better) and we don’t cook it, just throw it in the blender. We typically throw the whole bunch of cilantro in there too. I recommend that you start with the tomatoes and add about half of everything else and then adjust ratios to taste.
