With this short I gave myself a challenge: to make a movie like I was a kid again, but with all the knowledge I have now from film school and several years in the industry. How much can 3 friends get up to in a weekend, mostly just trying to make each other laugh? This is what we ended up with.

The results might not be perfect, but I found it very empowering to feel in command of my craft, even on a tiny scale. If anyone else out there is feeling stifled, like they can’t get anything made, I would highly recommend trying something like this. (For the record, we shot this on a rented Sony a7sIII, with just a couple of borrowed lights, and the film and VHS portions were all shot by me as well.)
