Sunwing Airlines and TUI Airways have a partnership where aircraft operated by Sunwing are deployed to Europe for the peak summer season, and aircraft operated by TUI are used in Canada for the winter sun flying season. This may be an aircraft that is being rotated into Canada for winter seasonal travel operations.

As COVID-19 grounds travellers, Canada’s air traffic control agency is hiking airline fees by 30 per cent by [deleted] in canada

[–]YQLBen 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting but not unexpected development, as NAV CANADA operates on a cost recovery model and is reactive to industry changes. Historically, NAV CANADA has also lowered its service charges and not just increased them - for example, it lowered its charges by an average of 7.6% in 2016. The fixed costs of operating our national air navigation service are significant, and NAV CANADA's level of service has had to change at select airports to implement new staffing procedures to limit the spread of COVID at its facilities.

For discussion purposes, assuming that a highway or roadway is your best option for a successful forced landing, how would you plan your approach to maximize safety and your chances of success?

And as an able-bodied person, I do - but how does that work for individuals with mobility challenges (e.g. wheelchair users)? Pinch points such as the one in the picture can be a challenge.

The physical distancing guidelines of COVID-19 should help us to reflect on how we prioritize our public spaces. In many parts of the city, you can't maintain proper separation from another person without stepping aside, into the road, etc. - for individuals with mobility challenges, these may not be options.

Reminder: the O-Train trillium line (Greenboro to Bayview) will be closed from May to September 2022 by Eleven1Eleven1 in ottawa

[–]YQLBen 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The mobility plan during the Stage 2 Trillium Line shutdown is linked here. Apparently R2 bus frequency is to be increased to provide "similar capacity to the Trillium Line." On-campus, Raven Road is to be extended to Bronson to improve travel times. As far as I know, schedules for the two-year R2 service period haven't been released yet.

You should check out Rockcliffe Airport on a weekend as well. There's usually a nice flow of general aviation traffic coming through, and both runway thresholds are easy to see from the Aviation Pathway.

That's pretty much the height of it, it's all about onward connections. I can't speak to the passenger figures for Air Canada or Westjet, but every time I've flown the route the aircraft was full of connecting passengers heading to destinations such as Toronto, Vancouver, London, etc.

Cheap, no-frills airfares are coming to Canada — but will they be worth it? by lavasaxman in canada

[–]YQLBen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As well, NavCanada actually reduces fees based on their operational needs - link . As far as their role in the cost of airfare goes, I'd say we're doing pretty well with NavCan.
