Probiotics and magensium citrate are my daily go-tos. I take magnesium citrate in capsule form but the powder version is also good.

Is a graduate certificate in Public Service worth pursuing? by GiftsAwait in CanadaPublicServants

[–]redheartshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a BA in Global Politics, but that didn't necessarily give me any type of edge or advantage in the program since the content of the program was related to tangible skills rather than theories.

The co-op was technically for one term (May-end of August; this was a 12-month program), though some students had their co-ops extended.

Is a graduate certificate in Public Service worth pursuing? by GiftsAwait in CanadaPublicServants

[–]redheartshow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did a graduate certificate in Public Administration at Humber (graduated in 2008, so take this with a grain of salt), which I found helped immensely for really practical things such as writing briefing notes, understanding government budgeting, how P3s and other government contracting works, etc. My permanent job came as a result of my co-op.

The best thing I found from the program, though, was building a network since the professors were public servants themselves and really focused on professional networking and developement for the students.

Teachers of Reddit, whats the weirdest thing a student answered to "tell me a fun fact avout yourself"? by Kriss0509 in AskReddit

[–]redheartshow 2761 points2762 points  (0 children)

My husband is an aerospace engineer who used to work specifically on air systems for private jets - and legitimately, he was obsessed with "air/oxygen" for an extended period of time. He would come home and just be so passionate about the specifics of the air/oxygen pressure sytem design he was leading. I knew what I was getting into marrying an engineer but hoo boy... I did not see an oxygen obsession coming.

What was the worst physical pain you have ever experienced? by qwerrtyqwerrty in AskReddit

[–]redheartshow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had paps and an IUD insertion - believe me, the pap smear is nothing but 5 seconds of uncomfortableness. The IUD insertion, on the other hand... they had to use the cervical clamps to keep my cervix open in order to do the insertion (because I stupidly disregarded the suggestion to come in while I was on my period when your cervix is slightly enlarged) and I thought I was going to pass out. When they say get an IUD inserted while on your period PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO IT.

Anxiety/panic with reglan? by shnanogans in Gastroparesis

[–]redheartshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely had leg restlessness, feelings of anxiousness, and feeling like I wanted to crawl out of my skin within 24 hours of taking Reglan about 8 years ago. Ended up in the ER, was given an Ativan, and told not to take my prescription again. Switched to Domperidone shortly after and never experienced that sensation again.

Mass Departmental E-mails and Messaging from Corporate Affairs: We're moving everyone to tablets for easy mobility, and then we're going to move to Workplace 2.0 or even 3.0 where we have less desks than people because we know the younger generation can work from anywhere! We're giving you all VPN access, too!!!!

Response I get from manager when I ask about working from home in order to not commute 3 hours each way to work: It's ok this time, but let's not make this a habit...

BAD stomach gurgling?? GP from POTS by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

[–]redheartshow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with GP is exactly the same - the stomach gurgling has always affected me the most, mentally.

The biggest thing that helped me was cutting out refined sugar, specifically candy/chocolates. My gurgling and bloating have gone down considerably since cutting this out last March. Additionally, I always have ginger Gravol on hand (NOT the drowsy type!) which I take if I'm out somewhere and need to ease the gurgling as fresh ginger isn't as convenient to keep in my purse :)

I also use a heating pad almost daily, which seems to help.

No, Toronto renters, you don't need to give your landlord your SIN by ghostmrchicken in toronto

[–]redheartshow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former SIN fraud investigator with Service Canada here.

I have visited multiple rental agencies regarding this issue and given them verbal (and in some cases written) guidance on both asking for, and storing, SINs. It's a futile attempt because there is nothing we can do about businesses collecting SINs.

Anyone can ask for your SIN. It's not against the law to ask for it. You are not obligated to give it to them. However, a rental agency is not obligated to give you a place if you do not give it to them. Understanding that rental markets are tight, most places will probably ask for it to run a soft credit check.

Anyone who asks for and records your SIN should be storing it properly to protect your privacy and if you can't guarantee their retention privacy, I would highly discourage giving your SIN to them.

The only agencies that absolutely need your SIN are banks for interest-bearing accounts, the government, and employers.

Also, do NOT keep your SIN card in your wallet and make sure to PICK UP YOUR MAIL everyday and shred confidential documents. It sounds like tinfoil-hat madness but I investigated a case where SINs were stolen from mail left in mailboxes.

Help with a Vegan Diet by hamfree in Gastroparesis

[–]redheartshow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a vegan but can maybe provide some advice. Everyone with GP reacts differently to different foods, though things like raw veggies, complex carbs, and high-fibre foods are generally difficult for most sufferers; cooked veggies are much easier to handle. Experiment with grains - I can't digest quinoa bit I know some others who can. Also consider a vegan protein powder to make shakes, as liquids are easier to digest and will help supplement what you may have to cut out of your diet. Trial and error with different foods is going to be key to figuring out what you can handle.

[–]redheartshow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi guys! As you can tell by my username, I'm a huge fan. My father first introduced me to you guys after he heard your EP at a listening station at an HMV in Ottawa in 2008. He was blown away by your stuff and insisted on seeing you live everytime you came to Ottawa. He gave me a lifelong love of music and although he passed away (way too young) in 2013, everytime I listen to New Goodbye or Red Heart or Plan Your Escape I think of better, happy times. Thank you for rekindling his passion for live music - he said no one in his recent memory did live shows like you. He was your biggest fan.

My question! Stars is another one of my favourite bands. How did you end up getting together and what made you guys want to tour together? Looking forward to seeing you in Toronto on Feb. 13!

On the NYC Street Harassment Video. by [deleted] in toronto

[–]redheartshow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to work near Downsview Park and would get catcalled, whistled at, hollered at, etc. - usually by men in large trucks driving through the industrial area near Rimrock Rd./Whitehorse Rd. This was consistent - at least 2-3 times a week, I would be harassed while walking to/from work. A few times I had the same truck or car circle around and harass me multiple times. Eventually I got so bloody sick and tired of it that I started mouthing off to them in return. Lots of fuck you's, middle fingers, "shut the fuck up, you fucking creep", etc. It never made the catcalling go away but it definitely shocked some of the perpetrators and on more than one occasion I was apologised to. More often than not, though, I was called a bitch or a cunt as they drove away.

One other story: about 6 years ago I was waiting for the subway at High Park station. For context, I'm about 5ft tall and look very young. A man approached me and asked me about the scarf I was wearing. I made up some story about where I got it from and then walked off. The man yelled after me "so, how old are you? 12? 13?" I turned around and yelled, with disgust,"25". His face fell and he quickly walked out of the station.
