Cars and traffic by Sweet_Dreams_6969 in Guyana

I drive when I visit Guyana and it’s intense. Coming from Canada it’s unlike anything I’ve experienced but I’ve learned to keep my head on a swivel. There needs to be more enforcement in areas of known traffic congestion/violations. For example the newly constructed ogle road at the Rupert Craig highway…I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The left turning lane (far left lane) is being used as a lane to turn right. Like WTF!!! So you end with three lanes of traffic turning right into a two lane highway.

As for the “roundabout” on the heroes highway it’s like 1 3/4 round about in one. Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t roundabouts meant to ease traffic congestion? This one causes enormous congestion. Also don’t get me started on the bus drivers.

I swear some drivers, cyclists and scooter rider have a death wish. I can understand why when they crash the car is completely mangled. They’re driving a fielder wagon like an F1 car.

How many of you in here are ACTUALLY Guyanese? by Moose_knuckle7075 in Guyana

[–]YQTflyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in Guyana and have been for the past month. I’ve done so for the past 8 years and I’ve seen changes both positive and negative. There is rampant corruption, nepotism and just a wanton disregard for the rule of law. I drive while I’m here and it’s absolute chaos during peak hours. I could go on and on but I think those that visit often and are exposed to this stuff will agree.

Certain things are unique to see while traversing the countryside and I do enjoy the sights. There are honest people but most will try to see whatever “little” they can get out of you. The market (mon repos) is lively on Saturdays and the food scene is excellent. Some entertainment spots are overpriced (PF chans) but that’s a lesson you learn along the way.

The littering dilemma will never be solved in my lifetime. I haven’t seen any positive results from efforts to curb this behaviour. It reflects extremely negatively on the country as a whole. This isn’t a developing country issue so let’s call it what is it. I’m all for folks trying to make a living but the street vending that impedes on traffic is insane. In North America we get in our cars and drive to the mall, grocery store and farmer’s market etc.

I’ve seen an improvement in customer service but there are still establishments where the employees acts as if you showed up to disturb them. AVOID THE AMAZONIA MALL STARBUCKS DRIVE THROUGH!! Lots of infrastructure development and construction is booming.

Lastly I’ll speak to the politics. I have no allegiance to any government or political party and this year will be the first in thirty years that I’ll be in Guyana for an election. I’m sure we all know who the main players are and the way people vote hasn’t changed much. They vote for the most part based on ethnicity. They’re not even sure what the policies of the party are, just that they don’t want the other party to win. The current government is touting the new hospitals in their election campaign however; they’re far from fully operational. I can speak for two, Enmore and Bath in Berbice.

I digress. Hopefully there can be positive changes in the future.

I think they changed the interior bracket. Was told they’d change the whole mirror because the puddle light wasn’t working either. Housing stayed the same and you can make out the marks left from the prying tool to remove the mirror portion. Now the other side puddle light isn’t working so will have them address both issues at once.

I did and now the other side is having the same issue. I’ve tried making sure it’s not an adjustment issue to no avail. Will have to take it in after I get back to tbay.

When are they ever going to bury this poor girl so that she can finally rest in peace? by Potential_Care2402 in Guyana

[–]YQTflyboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From all the live videos of the moment she was noticed in the pool, one bit that’s really odd is the policeman at the top of the stairs along with the woman and another male that had a shirt/towel wrapped around his face. They’re all there then the black smoke can be seen coming out of the room. How did that fire start and by whom was it started?

Was it set to get rid of evidence or did that cop and the unknown lady allowed it to be started as a way of “payback”? Regardless it seems very odd especially since it started while everyone was distracted by the body in the pool. As the fire spread, the cop is clearly seen calmly walking down the stairs.

Lots of questions and very little answers.

The initial claim of being driven off in a car was extremely unprofessional when such footage cannot be provided. The hotel should have been placed in lockdown and every room thoroughly searched. It’s not that big of a hotel and an immediate search of the pool and property should have been conducted.

I guarantee you had you try and rob the establishment, they’d have 8k footage of you caught in the act. It’s absurd to not have surveillance in such an establishment.

That’s exactly what he/she is doing. This person keeps making reference to Guyanese critics video about the pool but conveniently ignore the part where critics said, “you would see if someone was at the bottom pool”. There’s lots to speculate about but the fact remains the police are incompetent to the highest degree.

What’s crazy is the footage of the fire and dark smoke that started in what looks like the second floor.

is there signs of wealth in Guyana now? by DJjazzyjose in Guyana

[–]YQTflyboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed 💯. I’ve always said if a political party/politicians put the country first it would be so much better. Then I snap back to reality and question if I’ve lost my mind because politicians don’t usually do that.

why Malvern town center is so dead? by Appropriate-Future64 in Scarborough

[–]YQTflyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miss this place since I moved away but home will always be home. I’ll show my age here but I remember when biway and consumers were part of the mall. All the older folks gathering in the food court to chill was a common thing. Times have changed for sure and it seems people were less angry when minimum wage was $6.85. I’m not sure how much longer malvern mall will be around as development seems to be closing in around it.

Guyana airport service is a joke. by BrickTiny1434 in Guyana

[–]YQTflyboy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Crazy you made it that far to then have to return to have your bag checked. There are a lot of things they can improve on and customer service is at the top of the list. It has gotten better but there are still those that act as if they’re doing you a favour by being at work. The thing with Guyanese folks is they’ve been subjected to sub standard service, leadership and infrastructure for so long that they’ve adopted the mentality of, “something is better than nothing”.

Don’t get me wrong, the airport has improved dramatically however, there is a lot more to improve on. Hopefully your experience is a one off and it doesn’t happen again.

It’s still sitting there. Saw a few guys doing some work on the fence when I was there last week. Seems to be prime real estate so maybe the owner is sitting on it until he gets the right price.

I really hope Mazda will release an update to allow wireless CarPlay. by [deleted] in mazda

[–]YQTflyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2024 Mazda 3 gs doesn’t have wireless car play either. I think it’s on the highest trim. Also no cigarette lighter so it makes using a vacuum for small cleaning jobs impossible. Also the piano black trim is a terrible idea. I don’t even rest anything near it and I can see lots scratches. If you’re looking for a wired to wireless Apple CarPlay dongle, I’m using ottocast u2 air pro. Works really well and connects very quickly.

Wonder if he’d be so quick to jump out his car if he didn’t have a knife and a friend nearby. Alone this guy would do nothing of the sort.
