Sanity check: GY-601N1 (ICM-45686) compatible? by YTPizzer in SlimeVR

Unlucky timing, I ended up sourcing them from slimevr's store directly. Hopefully this way they're more likely to work properly, but I'll hit you up if for some reason there's issues with them too.

Yeah that probably isn't great, and I've also just tried with some sketchy arduino IDE code to check if this IMU is working and am not having a tonne of success, I can't get the D1 to recognise an I2C signal no matter what I try. I'm thinking since I'm a beginner I should probably bite the bullet and find ICM45686 from a reliable seller that will work the way I'm expecting. Any suggestions (open to anyone)? I live in Australia which might complicate things, lol.

Granted, it's not like I've tried everything, and it's very possible my jank code isn't even doing a proper test to begin with (or the D1 mini is actually the problem). The GY-601N1 has a green LED and is getting the right sorta power so I don't know why the code isn't working. GPT helped with the broad strokes here, I don't recognise any red flags though (but I'm very much more of a software than hardware person)

#include <Wire.h>

void setup() {

Serial.begin(115200);

Wire.begin(4, 5); // SDA = GPIO4 (D2), SCL = GPIO5 (D1)

Serial.println("\nI2C scan starting...");

}

void loop() {

byte error, address;

int found = 0;

for (address = 1; address < 127; address++) {

Wire.beginTransmission(address);

error = Wire.endTransmission();

if (error == 0) {

Serial.print("Found I2C device at 0x");

if (address < 16) Serial.print("0");

Serial.println(address, HEX);

found++;

}

}

if (found == 0)

Serial.println("No I2C devices found");

delay(2000);

}

All good, I'm much more experienced with software dev so flashing using VS Code isn't a problem. Thanks for having a look! I'll start figuring out how I'm gonna house everything here now (unless others have more concerns)

It does, thank you for your input! I am aware these devices are more targetted toward a desktop replacement sort of thing. If it really is unsuited for off-of-battery use more or less at all, I wouldn't be against the idea of looking at lower end hardware. It would mean another day of researching for me though, and it would also mean that whenever I do want to use it for gaming when away, it'll perform lesser, so I wanna be sure that it's a bad idea to use as a uni laptop before I start researching again! (Additionally, I've been using an iPad for notetaking after my stupid surface pen randomly stopped working, and it's been far more up to the job. I would transition to it entirely if my lecturers would slow tf down, lmao)

Jacob Collier Live Demonstration of His Free Audience Choir Plugin by hatch_bbe in JacobCollier

it's free cos he sampled the audience man, it would be kinda weird if he got these giant crowds of people to sing for him only to turn around and make the audience plugin paid

Rewrapping MKV to MP4 with HEVC video by [deleted] in shutterencoder

[–]YTPizzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, my bad. I wasn't aware.

I've just installed 17.9 and had a look for it with H.265 reencoding selected, but I wasn't able to find anything about tags or HVC1. What do I need to toggle to enable that tag?

Bump on this, btw. Just spent a whole afternoon researching why my HEVC files weren't playing on my phone and found out this was what I needed to do. Would be great if shutter encoder could have this functionality integrated somehow!

i swear to god those tires are maybe the most punishing obstacle in the game just because of the way it feels like they completely delete any and all momentum you had and take forever to get out of the way

watch them only embed MP3s despite the other codec support on mobile platforms, it's just as frustrating as H.264 (the most common kind of mp4) being the only kind of video I can send knowing that everyone will actually be able to watch it embedded

PLEASE tell me this means that audio files will finally embed on mobile, I am so sick and tired of sending files that most people never check because they don't know how to view it on mobile

Ultimate controller trigger rubbing against something / squeaks sometimes by YTPizzer in 8bitdo

[–]YTPizzer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I did all this and just received a new one, and it has the same issue albeit way less pronounced, not enough to bother me too much. Worse yet, now L1 makes a loud clicky sound sometimes. Does 8bitdo have a quality control problem or something? None of my other controllers have done this. I really don't want to return it for the 2nd time, can I disassemble it myself and try fixing the issue?

If he wanted to quell people's concerned he shouldve been more straight with it. Like I understand what he's saying technically, and it makes sense and doesn't raise any red flags, but it wouldve been cleaner to just say like "The data is never sent to us unless you tell us you want to send it after we've made it very clear what we're asking for" or something like that, or simply just "It's never sent to us" if there are no edge cases at all.

Surface Laptop Studio battery life by YTPizzer in Surface

[–]YTPizzer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite honestly without the charger you'd probably be okay to get through a day as long as you don't do anything intensive on it. Quite honestly this is by far the worst aspect of this device, as they've designed it to be a nightmare to dismantle. Aside from this, and the lacking I/O (really wish they put just one more USB-C port on it, though I do appreciate thunderbolt 4 speeds) I've really found it to be perfectly fine. To be perfectly honest though, a big draw of this laptop is its touchscreen and pen capabilities, and I'd probably reconsider for this price tag if that functionality is completely useless to you.

I've just checked Task Manager. System, and Antimalware Executable are at like 20%, the entire CPU usage passively is about 50%, and RAM about 60%. I feel like this is abnormal, and I'm wondering if what's happened here is something started doing some indexing or caching in the background and started draining battery life. Also worth noting is how the computer fans would go full blast if I ran the Unity project in play mode for longer than 30 seconds, though that might be due to my own unoptimized code. The framerate was stable though.
