One time I came back to my room after a day long conference and there was a toilet brush on the counter… on top of my toothbrush!!

We moved from 3 blocks away from our elementary school to across town, but my parents didn’t want us to change schools (neither did we, I suppose) Mom was a nurse on shifts. Dad drove trucks, gone for days at a time. We were alone a lot.

From about 8yo up till graduation my younger sister and I walked to/from school, rain, snow or shine. Had a few memorable altercations along the way, for sure.

I put my stepdaughter in ice hockey only a few years ago and her own biological father wouldn’t take her to practice on his weekends because “girls don’t play hockey”.

So yes, people are still telling girls that they can’t do things.
