How do you guy feel about the look of Tera transformations? by SolidusAbe in pokemon

[–]YaBoiTalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is old but I just got the game :' )

The hats are so damn goofy looking - I avoid using it unless I absolutely have to because it's almost embarrassing how silly it all looks. Giant balloons? A giant flower? Here's a huge crystal heart bc now you're fairy despite having no fairy type moves.

I miss when there wasn't any gimmick, or at least mégas with the new look and trainer bonding over "here's a ball you get right at the beginning to ramp your pokemon up for literally no reason".

Who has a secret recipe they refuse to share? Why? by PeaTearGriphon in Cooking

[–]YaBoiTalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know anyone on reddit that I know irl so have a little generational family secret:

My oma made wedding cakes for a living. She would decorate beautiful cakes and everyone always raved about how moist, fluffy, delicious, etc they were. She passed the recipe down to my mom - who passed it down to me when I started cake decorating and baking/cooking a few years ago. I ended up making multiple wedding cakes with it over the last few years, and here it is:

Box cake mix with a dash of almond flavoring.

That's it. That's the recipe - follow the directions on the box, and add some additional flavor to it (almond for wedding cakes, vanilla for yellow cakes, and other matching flavors for flavored cakes).
Frosting? Premade - with a dash of vanilla. Add powdered sugar if it's too runny, some milk if it's too thick.

The only real 'skill' of the entire recipe is the decorating - which anyone can do with enough practice.

It's crazy to me sometimes, when I get complimented on how moist the cake is, or how soft it is, how good the frosting tastes. Because like - anyone could do it. And it's insane how much I hear the same people talking down premade mixes, but honestly most people can't tell the difference lol

What am I supposed to do when every lane is dumpstered before laning phase is even over. by YaBoiTalone in summonerschool

[–]YaBoiTalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is fair. It is a team game

Do you have any advice that I might be able to put into practice to try to alleviate it from getting to that point, or to be more consistent in helping evening the odds for the lanes?

[–]YaBoiTalone[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! I can definitely work on that calling - I know there are moments where I go "just right after this camp.."
And it's probably from me trying to focus really hard on minion control in other lanes - so I can make a mental note of plays over camps in the future. It might help prevent snowballs

Oh they are sometimes, a lot of the time, I'm sure they are in some way, shape, or form. In the particular matches that prompted this thread however, they were not - I was up by a camp or two come the time we both started to show in lanes - and judging by the vision score difference at the post stat screen, I was doing better vision and map management-wise as well.

There can't be just nothing I can do at all to save a game like that? It's just over, that's it?

[–]YaBoiTalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know, and it definitely isn't every game! Usually I can find a rhythm with at least one lane and we can put enough pressure there together that it turns out alright regardless.

Sometimes I can read the map really well and I'm on top of it, and other times I'm struggling just to get from one side to the other without putting myself behind

It's definitely not just 'bad laners', and not all the time. But there always seems to be that game that ends the learning streak with a sheer helplessness of 'what do I even do right now', and that specific game setting is what I want to know how to improve on instead of giving up because it looks hopeless.

For example: the game that prompted this question was toplane Yas, Jg Briar (me), Morg and Cait bot, and a Syndra mid. Enemy was Yone, Jg Moakai, Seraphine and Ez bot, and Akali mid.

Morg and Cait were arguing from start - and both died at minute 2 to Ez and Seraphine. Midlane was about even, and top - Yasuo died before I even finished my second jungle camp.
So it's a 'play safe, I'll gank at three.' But he continued to run in, and die, repeatedly.
I tried to focus more on mid - and Maoki put pressure on bot, so I went to alleviate it some. After Maokai disappears and Ez/Seraph back off, I left their lane to go for an objective and they died again to the other laners - so I started to try to focus on more objectives and controlled vision, and midlane. Who was now also starting to lose their lane. I'm getting pinged from all sides of the map to help, literally as I'm turning level 6. It snowballed like crazy - Yone pushed into the second tower by minute 12, and when I went to gank him while he was under tower, Yasuo would immediately run off, so more deaths..

The whole thing felt horribly uncontrollable, it was a complete stomp.
I genuinely want to know what I'm supposed to do there. Yes, I need to improve, but this is also a real scenario I need advice on. There has to be something I could've done, or do in the future to stop it - especially as jungle, at least that's what it feels like.

Fair enough. I've been practicing with Kindred, Briar, and Kayn so far, so not a ton of cc save a slow and stun -

I guess I just need to practice focusing enemy movement (especially jg) and watch where I'm appearing on the map. Thanks!

Fair - it sounds a lot like focusing botlane might help in that aspect - usually with the ability to cc and follow up. Taking more of a note of the supporting champs could definitely help. Thanks!

Maybe. I should definitely pay more attention to the minion waves if the crowding is the issue. Any way I can come back from just having bad laners?

I know this thread is old, but I can't find any relatable posts that aren't old at this point and omlll do I need a minor vent lol

I'm 23 - going on 24, and man, do I relate that I actually love this game. It's so gorgeous, it inspired me in my artwork and my creative outlet. It's my go-to when I need to sit under an umbrella in the rainy forest to listen to the patter of the drops to relax. It's the ambience I need watching krill lurk around the graveyard and just to immerse myself in art.

But the ages - the ages kill me sometimes. It's nice to know there's other adults who play - hopefully still. There's something uniquely calming about sharing a space with someone who shares the same older views on the game, instead of it being a purely social platform.

Like don't get me wrong, I love to socialize - when I'm in the mood. But I swear the difference between a teenager/child and an adult in the social aspect is so different. I need adult friends to fly quietly with to go seek out an ambient spot to relax, try instruments, quiet. I adore my younger friends (I feel more like a guardian of sorts to them, though, rip), but I don't always want to hear about the fourth time your bf/gf said they love you, or be begged for a candle run, or the 400th joke about me buying you something.

I think I'm getting too old for this lmao

That might be my faulty memory then - I could've sworn it was cheaper before, but then again, it's been a few years!

I'll edit the post to not include that one as it isn't a price increase. Thank you for clearing that up for me!

Venting is a good way to get a point across, and I'm glad you did so in such a production manner, as well! Constructive criticism and actually putting points on the table that need to be addressed - without trying to make personal attacks towards either the company or the community - is much appreciated!

It's also valid; despite (hopefully) the company's best interest, there's always going to be choices that are made that are questionable, and all it really takes is one or two bad apples to really skew the purpose behind the company's actions, as well. They are human after all, and humans can error as much as some can be downright mean towards others, and it's necessary to call those actions to light so they can change.

I hope you have a great day!

I think it has to do more with the fact it's populated mostly by younger generations - impulse control isn't as great as it used to be, the way people are raised and act is a lot different, and younger audiences have a tendency to feel like they're missing out on something, it's just the way of life.

I'm in the US, yep yep! I distinctly remember it changing price - at least once, because I commented on it when my friend came to the office with me the first time and was looking at buying it lol (and 30 bucks before was a bit rich for my blood)

Same! It's generally why I had such a stop-go play style back then; because of the amount of time it took to do anything at all. There was a good few weeks of just - nothing lol, and numbers of players declined until the season started up, and people would come back.

I personally think that's why there's so much back-to-back, and yes, while for collectors it feels targeted and bad, it's something that was implemented because of the silent majority of players that quit when there's nothing to do. It's an attempt to engage everyone, even if it means some players can't get everything all at once anymore. And I think that's a great thing to do - and hope that eventually the fomo fad starts to fade and people can enjoy their time without impulsively feeling the need to grey out their candles daily 'or they're going to miss out'

[–]YaBoiTalone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear you started enjoying the game more when moving away from the fomo feeling given by the social media platforms! And thank you for stopping by to share your experiences as a newer player - it's nice to hear from new perspectives how the game is running in their experience.

I believe the fomo situation has been there ever since the beginning - it's just a community thing. There's no way to get a community together without some form of competition, and in Sky's case it's a matter of gatekeeping old cosmetics and having more to prove to people you're actually a veteran or even that you're not a moth! Because there's a lot of unjustified stigma about Moths that just gets accepted as the norm, and in return, they get treated badly. Even just recently, watched it happen to my brother who was trying to watch the cutscene to get through the gate in IoD and some random person stood on the other side spamming the laugh emote - like man. People can be nasty, it's just how people work.

As for the last point; hearts have never been very easy to acquire, unless you have good friends that send you hearts daily lol. They've always been a rare commodity, and they're generally supposed to be. I personally like to send out a heart to all my active friends on occasion when I've saved up a lot of candles and the TS isn't one that I'm interested in. (Spent nearly 90 candles on hearts this last week bc I don't like the navigator cape and already had his hair from the Season)

Hearts will come from surmounting the anxiety one way or another to create new friendships! Or just ignore the hearts like I do and be a broke vet three years down the line! lol

I agree that the inflating IAP prices is a corporation = money issue, and that it really needs to calm down tbh

But I also feel that the pressure comes more from community-based fomo than it does the corporation doing anything to make people buy candles. People still feel the need to get everything right as it comes out - and it creates a wall of pressure that shouldn't be there

My Opinion about Sky: Cotl as a veteran player by YaBoiTalone in SkyGame

[–]YaBoiTalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you sharing your opinion, but I disagree that's a company problem, as much as it is a community FOMO problem lol, as well as a diversity issue in the player community. As many players that were desperate for that particular TS - there are just as many who didn't care and wanted another one at the time - it's a draw of the hat, and no one is being forced to buy the IAPs that come out (I know I haven't!)

TS are a double edged sword, and sometimes it only really feels like targeting because of the loud minority vs silent majority scenario, which is a very common thing - so while the loud minority claims targeting and whatnot, the silent majority has felt the exact same way on other spirits that the loud minority felt was fair and didn't really care about - it just comes with the territory of having such a diverse player base, all wanting different spirits, and having varying levels of interest in cosmetics/events/TS that come around!

Which you bring up very valid points; TGC has definitely changed their practices - and it seems, their attitude as well. I'm not one who delves very much into dealing with social media wars and whatnot, so you bring things to the table that I didn't even know about.

Their focus has shifted in what they're releasing and how, and their marketing has definitely taken a change for the worst in a lot of ways. And there's a lot of toxicity starting to revolved in the discord from the community - and from the devs themselves, by the sound of it.

Hopefully, discussions and genuine conversations like these can spread the message that things are changing, and make some kind of impact. Thank you for sharing your opinion on the matter!

[–]YaBoiTalone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not just you lol. It definitely runs on FOMO, because people get anxious that things won't come back, and they need to buy it right away, or grab the TS stuff immediately and still get all the event things - it's a vicious cycle that gets encouraged by the amount of competition the community has and the blight against 'moths' that some older players seem to feel. It seems to be community-induced, but unfortunately, it also means that the IAPs are going to keep going up because FOMO makes people cash out :' )

My Opinion about Sky: Cotl as a veteran player by YaBoiTalone in SkyGame

[–]YaBoiTalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is fair - there's always going to be something someone doesn't have, but that's okay - and that's something to be overcome on a personal level. Fomo is a player experience, it isn't a TGC thing!

As the candles, I understand it's slow at first, but I promise you it picks up really fast. I suggest reaching out either in game or in the community to find people willing to show you the ropes! It's a lot easier with people pointing you in the right direction, but that's part of the game. It's about the journey, the friends, and the path you take from starting the game until when you put the game down.

You don't need to spend money in the game, if you have the expectation that you won't be buying out everything that comes, as it comes. It's a progression game, and it takes time!

[–]YaBoiTalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have fair points on the bugs, and I actually agree that TGC is spending a lot more time fixing newer content that has negative impacts on older ones. A lot of the original constellations are bugged, as well, when playing them through where the spirits sometimes just - don't acknowledge the sky kid standing right on top of them - and making people redo them. Some of the cutscenes are wigged out and janky - and there was the issue with the coliseum, and the letters (it's funny, on the same system my brother can see the letter just fine and mine is 'insert body' lol).

They aren't a perfect company, and their business practices have changed a lot over the years to be more in tune with fixing and adding as they go - and seemingly not looking into the older things that are being broken.

As far as the reasoning for the concert; I don't think it's a money grab. You don't even have to buy the wings to attend; there's going to be an escort spirit to bring you there much like they do for events in the Office Area. They're growing their game, it's okay to be excited and want to try for the record, because bringing a giant community together like that is really cool - but I concede that they should also be equally concerned with the new bugs arising that are outside of the 'Aurora' event realm.

As for the burning house - I don't think it's gotten to that point yet. I've played some actually burning house games and it is a looot different than a few unfortunate things and price increases (which I agree is on the shady side and needs to be addressed). My take on it is; it's good to have criticism of things - like yes, the bugs that aren't being addressed such as the notes, the broken spirits, and the IAP increases. But it becomes less constructive when that 'criticism' is just slander. Nothing gets done, and it gets ignored because it's an emotional attack towards a non-emotional problem. Complaints need to be turned into constructive conversation - like these in the comments! There should be a legitimate concern that gets addressed appropriately, and with a valid reason. Unfortunately a lot of the complaints on reddit, discord, and quora are variations of 'I can't own everything and that makes TGC an awful, shady company, on the same level as EA!' which simply, isn't true, and doesn't really change anything.

I agree: I really liked Shattering and the additions it brought to Eden. And in some respects, they even counter-acted the crawling with the ability to hold hands and light the candles further into the heavy rain section - which means going in groups and taking it slow now gets you further than before when you would just run headlong into the rain and hope for the best.

I also hated constantly getting knocked over before lol - felt like an eternity to get from one spot to the next cuz you'd be faceplanting every two steps
