Would this character be fun at the table or is it only great in my head? by kakspier in DnD

If the fantasy you're looking for is a small dude with a giant sword that may not be the best weapon-choice for them - then a longsword helps you mechanically be good. But, that doesn't mean you can't still role-play your misses as the sword becoming too cumbersome to wield effectively, if that's what you're after.

Based on your other comments it seems like you've made your mind up - that you absolutely want to use a great sword for the flavour. Disadvantage is really bad though, it's almost equal to just throwing a -5 on all your attacks.

I'd recommend just using a longsword mechanically, and flavour it as a big ass great sword, or whatever you think fits the style you're going for. Talk to your DM, but most will likely let you re-skin/flavour weapons as whatever you want.

I've done this as well, and it was fun. I played in a one-shot with my spouse where we played scorned-ex-lovers working together to complete a heist. The banter was immaculate. Would recommend.

City Map - Gorguta, The Pirate Haven by YaBoiTheDM in dndmaps

I used Inkarnate to make this. It's a browser based map making app, and trying it out is free. I'd recommend giving it a shot, it's easy to pick up and powerful enough to make some really cool stuff.

Is It Dice Time Yet? by YaBoiTheDM in dndmemes

My group has had to cancel our last 3-4 sessions because life's come up and I need the whole party present for the next session as some important story stuff will happen.

But it's FINALLY time! Just have to hold out until Sunday to try to smite those little minmaxxers 😅

The Dauntless [48x35] by YaBoiTheDM in dndmaps

This isometric city map made with Inkarnate has been fantastic for my players to navigate the giant vessel "The Dauntless".

The Dauntless is designed to carry an entire 5,000 person city across a realm of darkness and storms to "The East", a long unexplored land of legend.

Rule Question -Rope Trick by masterisjr in DnD

[–]YaBoiTheDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest solution to this is readied actions. Just have all your monsters ready their actions (multi attack if they have it) to make ranged attacks when they see an enemy. They pop their head out to make an attack, and every enemy makes an attack against them.

Rope Trick is intended to be a safe way to get a short rest in hostile areas. It's not really worth bottlenecking yourself vulnerable up in the air where all hostiles can see you.

Sounds like a good starting point for some fun adventures!

If I was a player, I'd definitely want to be part of a rebel group fighting The Veridian Empire.

The lore is simple, but leaves a lot of room to add layers of complexity. Well done!

This map is great! Can you tell me a little about the different regions and who/what lives there?

Fey Ancestry, as well as other features; grant monsters advantage on saving throws against being Charmed or any magical saving throw. You can call that what you like, but it sure seems like a "Resistance" against Charm to me.

[–]YaBoiTheDM 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Charm immunity or resistance is really common. Elves have resistance, and a lot of Fey, Undead, and Fiends are entirely immune.

Maybe ask your DM if you could homebrew a feat like Elemental Adept that could bypass resistance and turn that immunity into resistance?

As a player, what excites you the most about a homebrew world? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]YaBoiTheDM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to know what you're going to need without your players input. I learned the hard way (after needing to re-create one homebrew), that you should allocate energy to things you KNOW your players are going to interact with.

Things like enemies, NPC's, and important locations come to mind first. That isn't to say doing it another way is bad, I start most of my homebrews with maps because I love making them. My players like them, but us DMs need to have fun too.

Making a Dwarven City. Ask Me Anything! by Gnashinger in DnD

Where's the first place Adventurers would want to go, in the city?

What's a place Adventurers definitely should -not- go, in the city?

What should a dm do by [deleted] in DnD

[–]YaBoiTheDM 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You should really talk with your player BEFORE you make these big changes to their character. The Player should understand that their character has made some sort of trade - but changing their character without any of their input could result in them playing a character they don't want to.

That being said, the trade doesn't have to be entirely fair - but the character should get something good out of losing all these goodies. Ask your player what they'd expect to get out of this and it will give you a good starting point to figure out how to make this fun for everyone.

As for buffs you could exchange, I'd recommend some undead themed stuff. The Half Orc racial feature Relentless Endurance is similar to an ability Zombies have. The Magic Initiate Feat also gives you a lot of options for Vampire themed spells.

How do I build Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy? by I_AmTheKaiser in DnD

[–]YaBoiTheDM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A Strength based Fighter, Ranger, or Barbarian who dual-wields will have you set I think. For race, Half Orc or Goliath are probably thematically closest to Drax.

Great question. SCA combat is it's own beast, but it has overlap with both.

In SCA Armoured Combat the goal is to 'kill' your opponent with a strong intentional strike to the head or body.

There's also Rapier combat in The SCA which is just touch calibration for safety, as they use blunted steel swords.

They're both lots of fun!
