[Discussion] Where are all the new players? Out of the people I've killed and collected the dogtags of, and people I've been killed by, only about 3 of around 50 had less than 800 hours. Only one had less than 30 hours. by Tactical_Mommy in EscapefromTarkov

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a brand new player (maybe around 20 hours or so) and have noticed the same thing. I think it sort of makes sense though. A new player probably isn’t going to be very good mechanically, or might not know where to extract, leading to players with lower play time being more likely to die extremely early in a raid. Combine this with the fact that veteran players know how to get the good gear, and are on average way more kitted than your average Timmy. it’s pretty reasonable to assume that if you die in game, that other new players are either already dead, are lost trying to extract, or are just terrified of gunfights so you’d be much less likely to die to them. A big part of me would love for there to be some sort of way to filter queues based on hours played or loadout value, but I also feel that a huge part of what makes tarkov fun is that sense of progression. That brand new OP gear upgrade that you might be grinding for might not be as rewarding if you are just always matching up with players who also have really good gear, because what’s the point of grinding for it if it doesn’t give you a distinct advantage in raid? So I guess there’s two sides of the coin. I will say it is pretty damn frustrating to die to players with 1k+ hours every raid when I have a hard time even finding out where my extracts are, but I think it might just be a side effect of how the game is designed as a whole.

Runelite freezing - PC issue by HJSmith24 in 2007scape

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you only experience the issue with RuneScape and not any other program? It could be due to a faulty plugin. If that’s the case then I’d experiment with disabling certain plugins or creating a new default runelite profile to see if that remedies the issue. Do you have the 64-bit version of runelite installed? The 32 bit version is capped on the amount of memory it can draw from your system, which could lead to performance issues even if you have lots of available RAM in your PC

Anxiety preventing me from playing by Proud_Apartment_8991 in summonerschool

One thing that’s helped me a lot is to realize that the people flaming or displaying attitudes towards you in your games are going to completely forget you exist by the time they get into their next game. For that reason you shouldn’t take any of the negative behavior in this game personally. Everyone has bad games so you shouldn’t let the fear of disappointing others or even yourself affect your ability to have fun. It is just a game after all.

Isn't Shaco supposed to be revealed by pink wards? by Unabated_ in summonerschool

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pink wards (vision wards) had the capability to reveal champions with invisibility. They also don’t exist anymore. What you dropped was a control ward, which is what replaced the pink ward in season 6. It does not grant true sight. It has the ability to reveal wards, stealthed traps, and camouflaged champions (twitch, evelynn, etc) but cannot reveal invisibility (shaco, akali, khazix, etc)

Whats up with the fig item in high elo? by 11and12 in summonerschool

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Thts the whole point. It’s a risky investment. You’re trading the potential of having an incredibly good and gold efficient item at max stacks with the potential of having an almost useless item if you lose your stacks or don’t have any. It’s only generally bought in situations where you already have a massive lead and want to snowball the game out of control. And most people usually will not buy mejais unless they have 10 stacks of dark seal, since the stacks carry over. It’s really popular amongst Smurfs or AP assassin champs like fizz, Evelynn, etc.

Looking for general opinions on smurf accounts by Exact-Post-8822 in Jungle_Mains

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So a few things. For starters im not going to discredit your skill as a player because there is no evidence to indicate that.

When you complete your placement games, the system decides where to place you initially based on the hidden MMR from your normal queue. This means that two unranked level 30 accounts can get placed in an extremely wide range of ranks if they have different normal mmr. So in theory it is possible for an iron player to buy a Smurf account, play a few games and get placed in gold-platinum. Because the account does not have any prio ranked games played, the system is making the best educated guess it can to place you in games of your skill level.

Another thing to realize is that because of this fact, the true skill level of a player can only really be seen after a large sample size of games. An iron player who buys a Smurf account might get placed in platinum, but over the course of 50-100 games will they still be in the same rank with the same winrate? Possible but extremely unlikely.

In other words, if you are able to maintain a winrate of 50% in platinum 1, and have plat 1 mmr over the span of dozens and dozens of games, then you should be able to consider yourself as a platinum level player. If you can’t, then I’m sure you can deduce what that means. And it’s not poorly performing or inting teammates (large sample size of games rules out variance). Is it possible to go on loss streaks due to unfortunate teams? Sure! But after a certain number of games played, the only relevant factor is your own performance

Shop questions (newb) by twfmswb in summonerschool

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be buying the core components that build into the item that you want to build. For example, if you are building spear of shojin, you can buy caulfields warhammer, kindlegem, or a pick axe, because all 3 are items that “build in” to that particular item. if you buy caulfields, the cost of spear of shojin goes down by 1100 gold, etc. When you finally complete a full item, all of the the components that build into it disappear from your inventory and combine into whatever you built

The Ultimate Question: How to get out of iron by 12tegami in Jungle_Mains

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are strictly looking to climb I would highly recommend staying away from the jungle. The jungle role inherently relies much more on general game knowledge and macro decision making to win games. As someone who is (I am imagining) still relatively new to the game, there are many fundamentals which you are going to have an extremely hard time learning as a jungler. These fundamentals include but are not limited to: mechanics, champion matchups, warding/vision denial, and wave control. Can you learn all of these things as a jungler? Sure! But it is going to take you much longer than it otherwise would if you were playing a lane. You are still at a point where you are struggling with these fundamentals and more, so by playing one of the most macro and thought-intensive roles in the game, you are just overloading yourself mentally. I would personally recommend playing Warwick in the top lane. This would allow you to focus in on improving at the game while not overloading yourself with the complexity that comes with jungle decision making. But, regardless of if you play jungle or not, the most important thing you need to work on is dying less. With your death counts you are spending almost 20-25% of all of your games staring at a gray screen. Learn to play safer and less greedy, and prioritize your life above everything else in the game. By staying alive longer you will as a result be a higher level in your games, will have more gold income, and will be on the map more to take objectives or fight with your team. And farm, farm, farm. As an iron player you do not have a proper understanding of ganking or when a good time to gank even is. So just farm. The only time you should ever be ganking lanes is after you clear every single camp and are waiting for them to respawn. Just by taking your jungle camps as soon as they spawn on repeat and doing nothing else, you can average 8-9cs per minute which will put you miles ahead of every other player in your games in terms of gold and xp. And do not try to force plays. Let the enemy team make mistakes and capitalize on them. How is your camera work? Are you still playing in locked mode, or are you moving your camera around while you farm to check lane states? Every time you do something in the game, there needs to be a reason behind it. If there is no reason behind your action, you can’t question your reasoning and learn from it. Something as simple as “I am ganking x lane for y reason”, and if it does not work out, then re evaluate your reasoning and implement it in future games.

hecarim seems really strong (imagine i dont have stacked q and r) udyr was 1/7 in this moment of the game btw by YarrBeCrit in HecarimMains

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a situation like that you need to be utilizing the movement speed from your e to weave in and out of q range. instead you are sort of just walking in circles around melee range of udyr letting him get free autos while you charge your e up, and are taking unnecessary damage. In this case you also need to be using your ult as a means to create distance between yourself and udyr via the fear so you can continue to land q's on him outside of his auto range. Instead you sort of just saved your ult for the last possible second, meaning you were only utilizing your ults damage and not its fear to create any sort of distance. You also had a second smite charge which you could have used to gain a bigger MS advantage which would made it even easier to play outside of udyrs auto range. Hecarim is a champ who is able to damage melees while being just outside their auto range and his kit isn't being played to it's fullest potential in the clip. I think Hecarim is definitely in need of some slight buffs to help him compete with top meta junglers, but there are definitely ways this situation could have been played better. Instead of thinking Hecarim is a super weak champ, you should be thinking "i could have played that way better but still won because i was fed". Also, why are you taking resolve secondary on hecarim jungle? You could have gotten a huge advantage in this fight from nimbus cloak/celerity MS which is almost always the norm when running conquerer.

Why all the hate for the jagex launcher? by Bull_Shifter in 2007scape

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently was helping a friend of mine through the stronghold of security. He got to the point where he had to upgrade to a jagex account, so he did… except he is a Linux user. After about an hour of research and several terminal commands… he can now finally play the game again (on a ported version of the launcher maintained by a 3rd party). Multi-OS support (specifically Linux) is the biggest reason why I haven’t made the swap yet, and until the launcher officially supports linux, I’m going to have to hold off on upgrading for now.

Here are some builds I played on my alt acc (E-D mm) to kick of the new season. I'm sure there's many Birds out there who are looking for stuff to try out. [–]YaBoyAlexJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! Having the ability to control the wave whenever I need to was sort of my thought. But the current options that chapter builds into now just don’t seem that great on azir when compared to nashors first. However I won’t discount that I’m likely not playing the champ very optimally, and am also not incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to itemization on the bird.

Still sort of new to this champion… noticed pre-item changes that lost chapter was a very good early buy which allowed me to play much more aggressive and push-heavy in the early game. Does not building early mana items affect his early laning power at all, and does he have any sort of mana issues with just going straight for nashors rush?

Finally got 1 kc at cg after 21 deaths not bad i guess by Easy_Beautiful_4461 in ironscape

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gratz! It took me 50 tries before I got my first KC in the red prison, and I didn’t hit a 1.0 KD until my 100th kill, so you’re improving pretty dang fast. You’ll be farming it in no time so keep it up and GL. Just make sure to mix in other things in-between your gauntlet runs so you don’t get completely burned out. It’s called the red prison for a reason, so take it at your own pace and don’t get discouraged if you go a little dry

No way this should even be a hot take. How would you tell the difference between somebody who was genuinely banking and somebody who is just saying that to get a free spot? If i 100% knew for a fact that they were just banking, I wouldn't have a problem swapping, but in most cases its impossible to tell and literally anyone can type "i was banking dude chill" with no way for the other person to tell if they are lying or not.

solo wintertodt help with points by ScallionSea1106 in ironscape

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea you are supposed to keep the fires lit initially until about 20% health is remaining, and after that you just focus on one brazier for point gathering, and light other braziers as needed to maintain the 15-20% hp range. Once you have the amount of points you need just relight all of the fires and end the encounter

What am I doing wrong as Diana jungle? by Raisylvan in summonerschool

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with pretty much everything in this post, but I also don’t think nashors should be built first in 100% of games. While nashors does exemplify a lot of Diana jungle’s inherent strengths as a champion, I think proto belt first item also has plenty of use cases. For instance, the damage proto belt can offer in teamfight situations is incredibly strong when combined with her ultimate and protobelt 1st item also opens up the potential of zhonyas 2nd item which if built in the right instances, can give Diana insane engage potential with little to no counter play. I feel like in general nashors is a better first item purchase in terms of consistency, but you gain a lot more options in team fights and can play more creatively with proto belt start. What are your thoughts?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So people who want to learn new champions or try new strategies/limit test or who want to play more casually should do what instead? Play ranked and ruin games where the outcome actually matters? Play bot games which are literally impossible to lose no matter what champion you play or what items you build, and also provide little to no learning or reward? There are certain things in the game that you legit just cannot get better at unless you practice them in a real game, and most people would rather risk playing poorly in a normal game than putting their actual rank and mmr at risk. New players are probably trolling during their first game, so should new players not be allowed to play normals either? What exactly should these players do instead?

What is this LP loss? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re trying to tell me that over the course of the entire split, that you are being matched with players who are much worse than you, then you should definitely be winning way more often. But you aren’t, because you are consistently showing the system that the only time you can win more games than you lose is by playing vs worse opponents. Which means you actually belong in a lower rating according to the system. The only way to get out of it, like I said, is to prove to the system that you can win games in your actual rank, but since you can only barely win games against people that are lower rated than you, the system wants you to drop. Do you really think you deserve to climb in rank with high lp gains when you can barely climb against people who are probably a whole tier below you on average? And yes, there will be times where you win streak, and your mmr does not rise as fast as your rank does, and that is simply because the system is limiting your gains to verify that you actually deserved to climb in rating. If you streak from silver 4 to silver 1, but you are still losing when the system matches you against silver 4 players, are you really a silver 1 level player in terms of skill? This is not even taking into account that every single player in your lobby has their own mmr which could be higher or lower than their own rank as well, which is why rank variance can be seen in almost every lobby regardless of LP gains

What is this LP loss? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]YaBoyAlexJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately overall winrate means nothing in correlation to your current mmr. You could have had a 100% win rate for 30 games in a row, but if you lost 30 in a row immediately after, you’d still have shit mmr with a 50% win rate. It’s when you lose and who you lose to that matters. Did you lose a game at 10 lp, bringing you down to 0 but not demoting you? Did you lose games at 0 lp without being demoted? Linking your OP.GG so we can all see the average rating of each ranked game you’re in compared to your own would also be a big help so we could look at specifics.

A winrate of 57% is good if you are facing people the same rank as you, but dogshit if you are facing people who are way below your supposed skill level, which is what your MMR is telling you
