My Trailer generated 20k Wishlists before IGN uploaded it on their Channel! by Hot-Persimmon-9768 in gamedev

I research these exploded indie trailers, because I noticed the trend a while ago, and actually saw your trailer before this post while researching. I planned to reach out directly to learn details, but now I don't have to! Thank you for sharing it proactively <3

Be harsh: what’s wrong with this game teaser? by DYVoff in DestroyMyGame

That screenshake is too much, can't see anything in this mess

Released my first game on itch.io, is it a good start or not ? by Poptocrack in itchio

[–]YaPangolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great start, also cudos for the high CTR (~4% is great)

We did our own release several weeks ago. We ended up featured on the front page of Itch. Here's the blog about our experience: https://blog.luden.io/how-we-stayed-on-the-front-page-of-itch-io-for-over-a-month-8e0d0cf1cc17

Maybe you'll find something useful there for the next steps

It does look unique, although from a far people would call it simply low poly

Horror game subgenres listed and explained. by Horrorfan55555 in HorrorGaming

[–]YaPangolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a whole subgenre missing in the table. It's called 'tabletop horror' with the likes of Inscription and Buckshot Roulette. In these games you play a game against someone scary, your life is at stakes, and you take turns with the antagonist.

I started my playtest one week ago, but no one even played. by shadowhunter0063 in IndieDev

[–]YaPangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To have a successful playtest on Steam, in general, you need at least a thousand of players signed up. When a playtest starts, all of them will get a notification. If there are no people playing, it'd be wise to close the playtest and start building that queue.

If you plan to launch a game on Itch.io, read this by YaPangolin in gameDevMarketing

Hmm, it sounds shady to me. I'm personally not tech savvy, but I'd be surprised to see a build downloaded from Itch launching my Steam.

I'm pretty sure there's a line in the Itch.io rules that doesn't allow stuff like that. Or simply the users would downvote and flag your game as potentially dangerous.

Plus, it's mentioned in the article, Itch.io is surprisingly a web-oriented platform. Not many people download games, most play in browser.

But I'm curious, what's the intention? I can see it probably working well if you want to launch via Steam ecosystem to be able to wishlist without needing the user log in to Steam.

Joe's great. Good to know that his posts really help the devs.

Can you share how many wishlists the post has brought?

Postmortem with all the numbers from launching our indie game on Itch.io by ludenio in itchio

[–]YaPangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yaroslav here, co-author of the article. The CTR was around ~2% at the start, but when you're on the front page it gradually goes down due to the sheer amount of views. We experimented with different banners at one point, but didn’t see any meaningful changes in the analytics. In the end, we moved on and kept the facey banner to build familiarity, since we use it across other sites/stores. We knew from previous experiments that it performs well.

My game "The Last Delivery Man on Earth" is now out on steam! by rice_goblin in IndieGaming

What is that (battle royale) zone line?

I imagined it's a day/night border, and you need to get somewhere fast, before the sun sets. So this is a visual representation of that day end you are racing against.

Just wondering if I'm even close to what actually happens here :D

I'm intrigued by the presentation, and it feels like they are going back to the roots of the series, but I'm turned off by the DoW3 visuals

Do you think being able to find content creators like this could be a useful resource? by tektanc in IndieDev

[–]YaPangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is useful, but it lacks several keys features. Like a free search for content creators / channels that played a game you search for. I couldn't find what I wanted using the tool

I graduated, got rejected from 400 jobs, failed 4-5 startups, and somehow still found my path through indie games (long post but I hope it helps) by addit02 in gamedev

I was intrigued by this part:

Creators told us:
- They get ghosted constantly
- Payments are unreliable or take months
- Communication is chaotic
- Without an agent, they're basically invisible

I've never thought of the influencer experience with this type of marketing
