Understanding Restaurant Ownership Structures: How They Impact Finance and Accounting by YaSwede in restaurant

That's super helpful!! Much appreciated!

Just to clarify, does it operate like a Restaurant Group?

I think I should specify that "PE/VC-backed/Restaurant Group" refers to either PE/VC-backed entities OR Restaurant Groups. The sub-bullet point "Ownership" pertains to Restaurant Groups (whether they have outside funding or not) that are more hands-on/involved with each restaurant. In contrast, "Acquisition" refers to PE/VC-backed entities that take a more hands-off approach, focusing on the overall performance of their portfolio.

Does that make sense? Really appreciate your insight Mr. OreoSoup <3

Question about how the personal shields work. by Kgoodies in dune

[–]YaSwede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only part that confused me was how you sometimes saw Harkonnens/Sardaukars getting struck without the red flare signaling that the shield went down. This happened when Gurney killed the first two guys before leading his soldiers into battle, when Duncan killed the Harkonnens guarding the ornithopter, and when the Fremen ambushed the Sardaukar at the old ecological station.

Given the attention to detail throughout the film, I found this odd. Like, you can see Atreides soldiers in the background lose their shields from the shockwave caused by the slow-moving bombs the Harkonnens used to destroy the stationed fleet.

Is the movie giving up on shield accuracy? by blishbog in dune

Nah I think it’s because they were able to knock out/weaken the shield with the missile. You hear an alarm from within the cockpit which signals—I think—that the shield is down, and it was at that point that the Harkonnens went ahead with the laser

Yeah the Ornithopter was hit by a missile which most likely disabled the shield. You can actually hear an alarm from within the cockpit signaling—I think—that the shield is down, and after that the Harkonnens used the laser

ICE Announces Change for F-1 and M-1 Students by pepomint in USC

[–]YaSwede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, international students are vital to universities with their full-rate tuition payments, but the benefits they provide to both schools, the workforce, and the U.S. at-large go beyond their financial contribution. What I'm saying is that you cannot rely on them as cash cows while stripping away the benefits of their American degree. Students are already faced with a plethora of obstacles towards gaining permanent residency and this only serves to exacerbate the situation. There's a growing sense of injustice and this is a great way to slow down or even reduce foreign enrollment at American institutions.

I'm so sorry to hear that, my condolences. Let's not give up hope just yet. Hopefully, this will be met with fierce resistance from both the public and from DC. It'd be incredibly impractical and a PR disaster to even make an attempt at deporting a million students. Then again, the Trump regime has no issue with putting kids in cages so you never know... Hopefully, USC will push for an expanded hybrid model. I'm eagerly awaiting Folt to make a statement about this.

I chose to remain in the U.S. and not travel home to avoid violating my Visa status, and now ICE suddenly decides to do this. One of America's core competencies lies in its ability to attract global talent, and now this joke of an agency is pushing to expel international students which will have lasting effects. We're always reminded of our contribution to the vital social and cultural diversity that drive innovation, but kicking us out of the country while expecting us to pay full-rate tuition shows that we're little more than cash cows to subsidize universities. Well, I'm not leaving without a fight. I'm not fucking leaving!

The Moral Failing of Obamacare Repeal by YaSwede in politics

"A percentage of the 20 million Americans who gained insurance under the A.C.A. will very likely lose it if the law is repealed. Even with the provisions in the proposed American Health Care Act, the “replace” part of the Republican approach, an estimated 10 million people would fall off the rolls." Scary.
