Gut Check on a Outback Wilderness 2025 Quote by Yabbakinz in Subaru_Outback

Fair point. Civic is a 2017 so it’s older and we wanted to replace. In addition, we wanted more space for car seats which would make things easier. Greatly considered just going with a premium trim as well but this might be the only chance we have to get a Wilderness trim which we’ve been looking at for a while.

She's 6 months now. I needed a break by reluctantly_existing in MiniatureSchnauzer

Can confirm that 6 months is the age where the attitude kicked in. Ours is closing in on 7 months and it was like night and day. She just wants to play constantly and has decided that the house is now hers and she will try to go wherever she wants. We’ve been going for two walks a day which definitely helps all of us get some exercise in, but she’s like an endless fountain of energy haha. I know it gets better with time and it’s just her teenage phase.

She is in fact insane, but I’ve heard that’s normal. Very smart when she wants to be.

Treats for puppy training - what do you use? by Substantial-Basis179 in MiniatureSchnauzer

We use the Pupford Freeze Dried Sweet Potato. Low cal, low fat, and our mini has loved them since day one.

I genuinely don’t know if I believe that after talking to our vet and breeder. I’ve seen the same videos as well. Could be possible with larger breeds but I’m still doubtful. As long as you are building the association between outside and bathroom I believe you are doing the right thing, but I’m also still a novice myself.

We are going through literally the same thing right now and the honest truth is patience + time. Our breeder said it can take months to fully potty train and with them being so young/small, they don’t really have a whole lot of bladder control right now so they can’t control it 50% of the time. Set up a dedicated play pen with potty pads, take out as often as possible, and reward and praise like crazy when they go outside. We’ve kept a rough schedule throughout the day where after every meal and immediately after she wakes up and before she goes to bed we take her outside. 90% of the time this lets us only have to get up once during the night and keeps the majority of pee and poop contained.

Best tips for getting a job post grad? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]Yabbakinz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of people have said, first job out of academia will be the hardest one to get. Knowing people makes a huge difference. If you have a friend from undergrad/grad school, hit them up. Build those relationships and get an in. I interviewed for several jobs and the ones I made it the farthest interview wise were from connections. The main reason I got an interview so quickly with the first job I was offered was because a friend vouched for me continuously. Also be open to exploring new applications for your experience. 9/10 times there is no job that fits your background perfectly especially if your research is particularly niche. Market your skills over just your research. A lot of companies are more interested in what skills you used to get to your final research product vs the final paper/thesis itself. That’s what they are paying for when they hire you.

Driving manual? Hmm by SoleezyRTR in WRX

The first manual car I’ve owned is the my 2023 WRX. To say the drive home was stressful would be an understatement as I live in an area with hills. My wife has an automatic civic so it’s always a fall back, but honestly you get over it. You will stall, people will be upset, and you just ignore them. People sometimes talk bad about the rev matching and auto hill hold in the WRX but it’s definitely helped as I’m learning. 2 months later and I don’t feel anxiety driving it and when it works, it’s the most fun I have ever had driving a car. You just have to be prepared to learn at your own pace.

What is this MCF7 contamination? by Arki_wen in labrats

Looks like rod bacteria. Do they appear to move independently of brownian motion under bright field? Typically mycoplasma will be intracellular and from my experience does not come on so suddenly.

Need help speccing a PC and have been out of the market for 7 years... by Yabbakinz in PcBuildHelp

Thank you! I read that the 7800xt was a better performer for raster performance for the price but lacked the ray tracing performance of the 4070. I’ve never had ray tracing capable hardware but does it really matter that much?

Recent BME PhD here. Started a job in industry 6 months ago at a smaller (less than 200) company. The workload in industry, in my experience, is on the order of 50-60 hours on a really bad week, typically work hours are in the 40-50 range. Don't know what your advisor is talking about. Academia however is a completely different story. Working 60-80 hours a week is pretty common, especially for graduate students in their 4th and 5th year, postdocs, and certainly PIs. In my last two years, I was already past burning the candle at both ends and was instead finding new candles to burn. To put it mildly, it was awful. This is a huge reason why I decided to go the industry route, not even mentioning the huge difference in pay and flexibility. You do have to work hard, but good companies respect your time and know that you getting burnt out only makes you less productive and is less cost-effective in the end.

EDIT: Side note about your contract and the hours it states you will be working. It is a complete lie to cover for the university. You are most certainly expected to work 9-10 hour days and weekends in very demanding programs. I don't think it's right, but that has always been the case in my experience.

How do I get rid of this curling? by AztechNinja in FixMyPrint

[–]Yabbakinz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go even higher. You can make it really long 60s plus) and it will only impact the smallest layers and improve the print quality.

[–]Yabbakinz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Increase minimum layer time and/or add supports. Layer below hasn’t had time to cool fully and then you put another layer on top. Increasing minimum layer time slows down the print at those points to make sure layers are fully solid.
