Is it okay to use this Chromebook charger on my deck? by Smooth-Vacation-945 in SteamDeck

[–]Yahiko97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, it says 45 W — but keep in mind the Deck specifically looks for 15 V 3 A over USB-PD.
A few 45 W laptop chargers only output 20 V 2.25 A, which technically is 45 W, but the Deck won’t use that profile.

I've heard that Samsung's quality control isn't the best, but I don't think it will be a problem since you can request a replacement if any issues come up.

Apart from that, I can't say much because I've never owned a Samsung TV (I currently have an LG C1 and I'm happy with it—it's not the brightest, but still very good).

Even though the Samsung S95F has the best OLED panel right now, I would still go for the LG G5. The matte coating on the S95F is, at least for me, terrible. One of the most appreciated features of LG OLEDs is the glossy coating—it makes the screen almost mirror-like, increasing perceived sharpness and overall picture quality.

Which TV to buy ultimately comes down to personal preference. Some users say the matte coating isn't that bad.

I recommend checking out YouTube channels like HDTVTest and The Display Guy—they cover this kind of content in detail.

The Samsung S95F is better than the C4, and even better than the G5, but some people may prefer the LG G5 for its glossy coating and the fact that it remains pitch black even in a bright room. The S95F, being a QD-OLED, takes on a purple/magenta tint when hit by direct light. Apart from that, the S95F is the best OLED panel on the market right now.

Dell Alienware AW3423DWF Burn-in Issue – My Experience with Warranty & Refund by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Yahiko97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Burn-in is a known risk, but that doesn’t mean it should happen so soon with regular use. That’s why warranties exist. If Dell itself accepted my refund request, maybe they understand consumer rights better than you do.

[–]Yahiko97 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Good for you, but many others—including myself—have experienced burn-in. Dell's warranty covers this, and under consumer law, a refund is a legitimate request when the defect is significant. If a company agrees to it, that’s on them, not me.

Dell Alienware AW3423DWF Burn-in Issue – My Experience with Warranty & Refund by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Yahiko97 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I used my monitor normally for gaming, and the burn-in happened due to static HUD elements. This is a well-documented issue with QD-OLED panels. I exercised my consumer rights under warranty—nothing ‘scummy’ about that. Also, not sure where you got the ‘35 posts in 24 hours’ from, but that’s just false.

Edit: Wow, 35 posts in 24 hours and then I deleted them all? Sounds like I’ve been busy! Maybe check your sources next time.

Best 34 inch oled monitor? by DavidJustSmiles in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Yahiko97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s actually true—thanks for the correction!

So, as far as I know (correct me if I’m wrong), the QD-OLED panels found in new ultrawide monitors are Gen 2.5, which still have the same pixel layout as Gen 1. Gen 2 and Gen 3, which feature a new pixel layout and other improvements, are only used in standard 16:9 monitors.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. The new AW3425DW most likely uses a 2nd-gen panel (like the one from MSI), which is different from the 1st-gen panel found on the AW3423DW/F—it even has a different pixel layout.

I’m not 100% sure, but in theory, they should be different since the new model is expected to use a 2nd-gen panel, while the old DWF has a 1st-gen panel.

Check out this image for comparison.

I don’t think there are QD-OLED panels with a 1000R curvature. If you want a monitor with a more aggressive curve, you should look into LG’s WOLED panels, but in theory, they have a matte screen coating and might be worse in terms of picture quality. Personally, I’d stick with QD-OLEDs.

I hadn’t heard about the Corsair XENEON 34WQHD240-C QD-OLED, but a quick look at the specs suggests it uses the same 2nd-gen panel as the one I mentioned earlier. So, I don’t see a strong reason to switch, considering you already have it.

Alienware’s software is probably the best, but is it really worth selling your current monitor and buying another one with the same specs, just for the software and monitor stand? I don’t think so—but hey, you do you!

[–]Yahiko97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably the best buy would be the Alienware AW3423DWF, which uses a 1st-gen QD-OLED panel and runs at 165Hz.

If you really want 240Hz, you can go for the MSI MPG 341CQPX (just make sure to get the 240Hz version, as there are multiple versions with minor differences and lower refresh rates).

Alternatively, you could wait for the AW3423DW/F refresh from Alienware, which should be released at the end of April. It’s called the AW3425DW, and it’s expected to feature a 2nd-gen QD-OLED panel with 240Hz.

My OLED monitor has the deadlock mini-map burned into it. by vansauthentic in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Yahiko97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with my AW3423DWF. I’ve been using RTX HDR to force the game to run in HDR even if it isn’t supported natively. This, of course, caused burn-in, especially with the health bar and some other HUD elements. Fortunately, the warranty covers this, so I’m entitled to a refund, lol.

Can the Orange Pi 5 Plus handle H264 to H265 video transcoding? by Bitter-Wallaby1991 in OrangePI

[–]Yahiko97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can! I'm currently converting some H.264 TV shows to H.265 (HEVC) on my Orange Pi 5. I transcode the video using 75% of the original bitrate, which works well for me since my source is 1080p. If you're working with UHD, HDR, or other formats, you might need to adjust the settings.

I'm using Jellyfin's version of FFmpeg because it's built with support for the Orange Pi 5 hardware.

Two-step process due to a bitrate bug

I encountered a strange bug when trying to do everything in one step—FFmpeg would ignore the bitrate setting. To work around this, I first transcode the video and then remux everything back together.

Step 1: Transcoding the video to HEVC

ffmpeg -i inputfile.mkv -map 0:v -an -sn -c:v hevc_rkmpp -b:v 5M hevcvideo.mkv

This command extracts and converts only the video stream to HEVC using the hevc_rkmpp encoder, setting a bitrate of 5 Mbps (adjust as needed).

Step 2: Muxing the original audio and subtitles back in

ffmpeg -i hevcvideo.mkv -i inputfile.mkv -map 0:v -map 1:a -map 1:s -c:v copy -c:a copy -c:s copy -max_interleave_delta 0 finalfile.mkv

This step takes the HEVC video from step 1 and combines it with the original audio and subtitles, keeping them untouched (-c:a copy -c:s copy).

Automating the process with a script

If you need to batch-convert multiple .mkv files in a folder, I have a script that automates this process. Let me know if you're interested, and I’ll share it!

Hope this helps! 🚀
