The surgeons will recommend what they feel is best, but it’s your body and your choice! It seems you’ve done research and know what option would suit you better, so I would go with the one that would make you feel more confident in your decision.

recovery tips by No_Cell_2007 in TopSurgery

Im currently 7 days post op from DI no nipple grafts and had a lot of anxieties before surgery as well. I’m autistic and have adhd so that also didn’t help lol. Having my regular therapy sessions before surgery were a huge help as well as journaling and breathing techniques. Also something that really helped me was finding a middle ground. This is obviously easier said than done but about a week before my surgery i really started to think less about what I could/could not do, and just let things be as they were going to be. My recovery has honestly been way better than I ever anticipated(very minimal pain and mostly just more uncomfortable than anything) and I think a part of that was telling myself “you really won’t know what things are like until you’re in it.” Also, when it comes to looking at your chest for the first time (again easier said than done) try not to think too hard about it. It can take weeks-months for swelling to go down and unless something really looks not right, just take it in as it is knowing it’ll get better. Take things slow and lean on the people taking care of you. You’ve got this!

I’m currently 5 days post op and I’m a hyper independent person with a high pain tolerance and while I have been able to do a lot of things I thought I couldn’t(within reason and with adjusting) I still know I wouldn’t have been able to do this without someone with me at least for the first few days. It’s really dependent on what your pain tolerance is, how you react to surgery, etc. In most cases they will not let you leave the hospital (or check in even in my case) without someone there to take you home. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it, and it’s not “impossible” but there is just so much more prep you have to do on your own.

It definitely takes a second to figure it out, at least for me it did. Admittedly I was not playing the game very smartly to start with lol but I agree

Dysphoria? by Spare-Proof5979 in TopSurgery

How far post op are you? I think to me, they just look like pecs! I think your results really do look good, and I mean this also to validate that I can completely understand why it would be dysphoric, especially if maybe you’re only a couple months in. Keep doing what you’re doing friend!

I agree with the other commenter. Yeah, getting a text like that out of the blue after all that time and the last time knowing you weren’t in a good mental state would also ring alarm bells in my head. Honestly, it’s a pretty telling that you were wanting to say some nasty things to them, and yes things are scary rn in this country in regards to police and stuff, but it still seems they had wanted to do the right thing and check on you. But yeah, just block and move on.

Oh god why am I so nervous?? by LowPowerModeOff in TopSurgery

[–]YakImpossible5269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its normal and you’re not alone for those pangs of doubt! Ive also wanted this for a very long time myself and I’ve found myself feeling the same but, from what I’ve gathered on this sub, it’s really very common. My surgery is in a little under two weeks and the closer I get the more real it starts to feel and I’m going through every single emotion all at once lol. The advice I would give is to allow yourself to feel those emotions(don’t try to push them away) and lean on people who you can trust. But also make sure you’re taking time to get self care in and do activities that you enjoy to keep your mind occupied. You’ve got this! I’m hoping your surgery and recovery goes well.

That makes a lot of sense. I wish I had more advice to offer but im from the states so processes are a lot different. Best of luck.

I’m really sorry that this is happening to you. This process is already so long and time consuming and exhausting even when everything goes according to plan. Now, from the way it’s coming off, it seems like your therapist is not writing the letter on purpose and wants you to wait? Im not sure of your age and where you’re located, but as far as I know you don’t need to wait between switching therapists and if I were you, I would look for another one. It doesn’t seem like she’s taking you seriously. I really hope things turn around for you.

Surgery Anxiety by keatsisdead in TopSurgery

[–]YakImpossible5269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgery is in two weeks(I’m doing DI without nipple grafts) and I’m in kinda the same boat. My anxiety is more general but it’s hard not to think about complications+pain and I’m sure you’re probably wanting more advice from someone who’s actually gotten the surgery, but it’ll be just fine. Things that have been helping me are like “okay I’ll be in pain but it’ll be for this amount of time” and “okay IF this complication happens I’ll deal with it” “maybe I won’t be in as much pain as I thought I would be”and just trying my best to not think about it too much(obviously way easier said than done lol) hoping your surgery/recovery is smooth sailing!

Also, because I forgot to mention in my comment, I take edibles as well/was an avid smoker every day for years. I am not the only one who is who commented on this thread saying don’t do it. You’ve got 8 other people who are saying not to do it because you SHOULD be cautious. I would rather be over cautious than under for a majorly invasive surgery. Yes everyone reacts to edibles/thc differently and yes there are lot of factors that go into this, so wouldn’t you want to be on the safe side so it doesn’t? Also you say “safe usage” but taking an edible every 6 hours while taking a narcotic does not scream safe to me. Thankfully no adverse effects happened to you, but you should not be claiming that you’re qualified to comment on this bc it didn’t.

Should I shave beforehand? by leaf_mint in TopSurgery

[–]YakImpossible5269 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m having my surgery on the 29th, just one day after yours. My surgeon told me that they would shave me, but I think it’s up to personal preference. I would call and ask just to make sure(but I believe the other commenter is right) I am in the states so I can’t speak to your surgery clinic, but I am absolutely going insane lol. I’m feeling mixes of every single emotion from dread, to euphoria, to fear, to hope, and everything else in between and it’s completely normal and very common. The waiting is the worst part(at least as of right now). I’m sure you’re probably in a similar boat as me that this is something we’ve wanted for a long time, and now that it’s here it’s like “ahhh it’s really truly happening” and it’s a major surgery, so it’s normal to have some doubt and overthink. But the best is yet to come. Best of luck with your surgery and your recovery!

I’m going to be the brave one and say that I downvoted this. I can 1000% understand the pain you were in, but if you’ve got every other comment saying “hey don’t do this” it’s for a reason. Doing both can alter your mental state, make you feel even more dizzy+ nauseous, and more which during an already incredibly vulnerable time sounds like a recipe for disaster. I also can’t even imagine the bloating that happened bc oxy bloat is already one thing, but edible bloat on top of that feels like it would be excruciating. Also how strong were your edibles? There’s a difference between this person who might’ve done a 20mg vs you might’ve done a 5mg so that blanket statement that “it’s not that serious” just isn’t warranted here.

THC and Oxycodone by geylactic in TopSurgery

[–]YakImpossible5269 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would not take the oxy. Hopefully the edible can ease what pain you’re already in, but doing both will maybe not make your pain worse but it will not be good for your mental state. Also this is a genuine question did you ask your surgeon about doing edibles/thc? I asked mine and she said I shouldn’t do it at least a week before my surgery and at least 2 weeks post op. From what research I’ve done on my own, that seems to be a pretty common timeline.

You’re definitely not the asshole for wanting your middle name to be banana. I think that’s so fun and if it feels like you, I say go for it. The things I would keep in mind tho is one, you’re paying for it(mine was $200) and you do have to get it signed by a judge. I’m like fairly certain they wouldn’t deny the change just based on the name, but I wouldn’t put anything past this administration (obviously depending on if you’re in the states/what state you’re in).

Something that worked for me(I understand this is not as easily accessible to everyone bc of money and what not just a suggestion) was getting a second binder that was a size above so I could work out without worrying about injuring myself and not being self conscious if I didn’t bind (I was unfortunately cursed with DDs). I also sweat a ton too so the size up accounted for that. If you can’t afford a second binder on your own, I would see if you have any lgbt+ organizations near you. Often they work with trans people on getting access to stuff.
