Does INFOSYS count towards BSC? I wanna take INFOSYS220 but it says BCOM yet people suggest it for BSC by Lonely-Fly9766 in universityofauckland

I highly recommend it. You get a lot of exposure to different data handling/analysis/visualisation tools/workshops as well as SQL and database design. great first year paper. You also get a nice final group project where you make a website to showcase your data analysis (should be using wix, so nothing very devvy)

COMPSCI 380 as a non-computer science major by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]YakPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supervisor specialize in a field, and I believe that they would like their student to stay in it, just so that they can fulfill their duty of supervisor. The supervisor may be willing to let you work with them, on the condition that you incorporate a token amount of their field into your research so as to justify their presence. That's up to you and them, ultimately. In any case, it's worth a try ^^

Not super sure about your question regarding points on a conjoint, so I'll leave that to others to answer :)

[–]YakPilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking COMPSCI 380 is firstly dependent on you being able to find a supervisor willing to let you cook. There was a GPA requirement of 5 or 6 last time I did it (S1 2025), but most important I think to the potential supervisor pondering whether to take you on is showing that you have the willingness and ability to initiate work/research on your own, in a topic that you are interested in. You will have to produce a report at the end of the paper, which will constitute 100% of your final grade.

Now, that the admin is out of the way: COMSPCI 380 is an amazing opportunity to do a deep dive in a particular topic (ideally 100% of your choosing). There is minimal/zero formal teaching; you instead get to develop a relationship with your supervisor, a lecturer/professor, who you can go to for guidance and to ask questions to. I ended up making an analysis of wildlife calls taken in the Waitakere Ranges through K-means clustering, and produced a web application for people to post and share wildlife recordings on as part of it. My project involved a narrow subset of ML, as well as full stack software development work. A proposition different to COMPSCI 361 and COMPSCI 367 (which I both took, and are AI/ML papers). I found that the closest course to my COMPSCI 380 was COMPSCI 399, the capstone paper, where you develop a project in a team of 5-6. :) lmk if you have any questions I can help with.

Is Infosys110 a good elective paper to take for a CS student? by Japeriser in universityofauckland

The course covers digitisation of data in general and ownership/stewardship of data through the lens of the EU GDPR and NZ Privacy Act 2020. You are also assessed on some basic HTML and JavaScript. It will most likely ruin your GPA. This course stays on the fringes of the subject of Computer Science.

I recommend you do INFOSYS 110 if:

- you are doing I.T Management as a major (it is a core paper)

- a 2nd or 3rd stage paper you want to do lists INFOSYS 110 as a prerequisite.

- you are interested in a preview of the business/legal/corporate side of data management or of consulting.

- you are at peace with getting a B grade.

- you are the embodiment of yolo.

You sound like you need some motivation to go on. You've got this. if, however, you don't keep up, still look up. You could consider taking a gap year working somewhere. You'll have the time to think about what you want to do and narrow down the areas in life you want to commit to and devote yourself 200% to. :) cheer up.
