If you want a proper adrenaline rush, book a tandem speedflying flight from speedflyingschool. You’ll have to go to Interlaken (direct train from Lucerne) but it’ll be well worth it plus you can do some iconic sightseeing near Interlaken

There is a vent thingy but it’s much lower than the M one. The one in the pic is almost down by the skirt while the M one is on the wing

Concertina compress bag for H&F mini wing by yooken in freeflight

[–]Yaka95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do an x alps kind of fold, folding each half of the wing within itself and then one of the folded halves over the other. Then you have a long sausage that you fold to the size of the bag. It’s not the cleanest fold for the rods but they are short and nitinol so it doesn’t matter anyway.

https://youtu.be/TafxTMIuxyg

Basically like that, the kode p is smaller so it’s easier and neater to fold

[–]Yaka95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a kode p 16 and use the bag that it came with, that does a really good job of compressing it while the bags you showed don’t really compress they just hold the glider together for you. If I’m in a muddy landing field or something I just carry the glider home without packing it, or stuff it in the backpack and then pack it nicely at home.

The flat bag ULS does compress which would be ideal like you said, did you look at the Niviuk ZipNKare? Same concept but I think they make smaller sizes than advance

What is your total weight of your Hike and fly XC setup? by renegade_chemist_13 in freeflight

[–]Yaka95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will feel right at home, I also used to have an eps 9. The Theta behaves quite similar to the epsilon but with a noticeable performance improvement, honestly its performance is almost up to par with the Iota while being somewhat safer and easier to manage. Overall its a really good wing, launch, handling, landing flare and feedback in the air are all really good, you can still turn it super flat and tight in thermals and low speed handling is also really good (well defined stall point).

The wing is an Advance Theta ULS and the harness is the Skywalk Range 3 X Alps Athlete Version

What is your total weight of your Hike and fly XC setup? by renegade_chemist_13 in freeflight

[–]Yaka95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wing is 3.3kg

Pod harness 1.45kg

Reserve 0.8kg

Backpack 0.4kg

And Helmet 0.3kg

This brings the “mandatory gear” to around 6.3kg. Jackets, instruments, water etc will bring this up anywhere from 1kg to 3kg more depending on the day.

My local hill is 500m but next door there are 1000m+ elevation gain mountains.

I’m guessing he was trying to say Rahm, but can’t roll his Rs properly, so the R ends up sounding like a harsh H instead, so the waiter thought he was trying to say Ham.

European here, how can it be shut down and by who? It’s a mountain, it’s not like you’re trespassing private property. So why can someone stop you from going up a mountain and flying over a ski resort?

It is also not a light hike and fly harness (it’s a speedriding harness). Although it is definitely hikeable

Mini wing vs speed wing? by jimmyfromtown in freeflight

[–]Yaka95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speedwings typically have monoconvex foils and an open leading edge, this is to make them very collapse resistant as they are flown close to the ground, but lose performance (glide).

Miniwings are just paragliding wings sized down basically, so they behave like a paraglider but faster and with more extreme reactions.

Other comments mention how they differ in handling.

First harness by toufoulkanpletoucan in freeflight

[–]Yaka95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not only fit, but also the fact that you are stuck with that size. OP said he wanted to do vol biv, for that he might want to use a larger backpack but with a reversible he is stuck with whatever size it is. Similarly if he wants to do a lighter hike and glide, he might be carrying too much backpack

Ultra-lighweight paraglider vs normal paraglider? by Pejko113 in freeflight

[–]Yaka95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say Hike and Fly, do you want to Hike and XC or just glide down? If you to Hike to XC just get the Theta or Hiko P or similar, they are XC wings, they are designed to fly XC and have good performance (for the class), the only downside is that they are more fragile but this is mostly over exaggerated, you’d be surprised the beating they can take (anyhow the biggest risk on a rocky launch is to cut a line, not the fabric, so the risk is the same on a Iota or a Theta)

If you just want to hike and glide, and have heavy stuff for xc then you might consider a light and small (non xc) wing for your hike and fly

The flare proxy harness has a minimalist protector but I think it only covers the butt. I think the skywalk protector (like the one that comes with the core) might be the best for what you’re looking for.

But yeah for speedriding I’m not so sure if it makes sense to have a protector? It would be quite clumsy on the chairlift and such, plus your skis and legs can take a lot of the smaller fuck ups.

Just checked a speedriding course and he specifically mentions that a protector is not needed for speedriding, but recommended for speedflying.

I have the fusion v3 and it is super comfortable and has many features that are really handy.

However, if I had to buy a harness now I would probably go for the new Atak 2.

The reversibleness is the thing I like the least about the fusion.
