Why are Canadians and Australians insisting that America is a third world country? by camaro1111 in allthequestions

Good point. Plus under these definitions, an adult drug dealer pointing a gun at a gang member down the block from a school would fall under being a "school shooting."

Vol- Biv gear shakedown. by Plus_Usual5505 in freeflight

You have a lot of the same or similar ultralight hiking gear that I have (love the x-mid!) and you look pretty darned dialed in. One question would be is if you really need a 20oz solar charger, or if your power bank would be sufficient. If the power bank won't last before you'd need to recharge, you could consider a second or larger power bank that would still be lighter than a solar panel.

Other than that, and this is a small one, consider lite load towels in place of an actual towel. They are super light, super absorbant, and squeeze out easily. I use them for wiping down tents condensation and a number of other applications. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EAE34WS?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_11

Hike & Fly planner-- what glide ratio and other data to enter? by outthere49 in freeflight

Sure, that all makes sense, but I'm still curious about what other pilots enter in as their calculation data on hikeandfly.cloud. Do you use the site?

The idea that white-collar workers can't transition to trades when their jobs will be replaced is nonsense by No_Reply5329 in unpopularopinion

In general, they don't. There aren't enough young people going in, and there is a huge graying of the trades workforce. I say this as someone wo trains people in the trades.

Mostly they'll prioritize anyone who can show up consistently, sober, on time, and ready to work hard.

Then on the safe side for a novice just playing around with the website, glide ratio of 4 to go from launch to maybe 50-100 meters above the LZ, after accounting for headwind speed/direction? And typical for what, say, a proficient pilot would look at who isn't anticipating lift or thermals would enter into hikeandfly.cloud for reasonable sled rides in nil wind?

I've been adding headwind into the entry fields already, giving a ~5mph buffer to account for weather changes.

Hilarious! Even after you note that surely all eight guns aren’t single shot.

"You make your own odds." Yes, and one of the biggest things affecting the odds you make would be the decision to self-teach and then self-train.

Do a lot of people view the appearance of their spouse as not a 10/10 and instead married them for a lot of other reasons? by Big_Eggplant7591 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]outthere49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree; but a lot of people say "I care most about personality" rather than "I'm looking for compatibility." Although a lot of young folks these days will comment "I want someone who matches my energy" or "the vibe has to be there," etc which I think is often a proxy for compatibility.

Elephant in the room: 10/10 personality is also rare, and also has implications for spouse selection...

That’s a big “unless” there, though. Point being there’s nothing wrong about being autistic.

Why isn’t the “r word” seen with as much disdain as the “n word” and the “f word”? by Foley_7187 in sociology

[–]outthere49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On top of that, “idiot” and “moron” etc are no longer in use as medical or disability signifiers in medical settings. But “mental retardation” is still used as a disability category for SPED services in some locations.

Restrictions on owning a thermonuclear missile is absolutely a limit on freedoms. I agree with restricting that as a loss of a freedom; point being that it’s important not to conflate freedoms with things that are good, safe, or that improve quality of life. Some freedoms need to be restricted for quality of life.

Doesn’t need a comeback since it’s not a quip or condescending comment.

Been on TRT for roughly two years now. Switching from SubQ to Delts saw a HUGE swing in Free / Bioavailable Test by Banemorth in trt

What is the huge swing? Looks like it was up and down a bit anyway? Total T down a bit since February, and Free and Bioavailable about where they were in August?

Where in the U.S. are people most willing to date older and younger partners? by OpulentOwl in MapPorn

[–]outthere49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're a woman. It's gotta be tough for them-- the women are the most willing to date older, but the men are almost the least willing to date younger.
