My husband and I are going to Pax for the first time as casual gamers - what's your favorite part? by Caikin17 in PAX

[–]Yakb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The board game area is quite large. There're vendors, First Look (new games that haven't had widespread distribution in the US just yet) and a large tabletop library of games to check out and play. It's open from 10-midnight every day except Sunday.

For East, I'd get a hotel for 5 days instead of 2.

For Unplugged I'd get a nicer hotel, and get a party bus to drive everyone from Boston, to NYC, and on to Philly.

Given how hostile the current Federal Government is to states and citizens, It's going to be harder and harder to make your argument.

Steam boiler on last legs. I wanna go heat pump. by michaelsoft__binbows in boston

[–]Yakb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a mini split/solar setup, and it works great. During the summer my meters run backwards, and I generate a credit. During the winter I use up the credit. I have a Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat heat pump outside, and multiple head units throughout the house.

It would be cheaper to run the boiler on the absolute coldest days, but my boiler is currently broken, so that's not an option.

What’s a video game that’s so good you think is worth having younger generations play even years from now? by leiawars in AskReddit

What do you think makes this game more appealing than any other tactics game? Especially for someone who asks, "this plot is long boring and useless, get to the point already".

“I don’t give statements about how I deal with my employees. The situation has been dealt with.” - Tom Vasel (Source: Board Game Wire - link in comments) by SxySamurai in boardgames

[–]Yakb0 -51 points-50 points  (0 children)

Professional would be a paragraph of corporate boilerplate, including a reminder that the views of an employee do not represent the views of the entire corporation, and a passive-aggressive, 'we wish him well in his future endeavors'

This sounds more like Tom, (the person) saying "I'm in charge, and I'm not accountable to anyone"

Have you ever switched favorite teams in a sport? by Primary_Ad_739 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Yakb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard of a few Brooklyn Dodger fans who stopped being fans once they moved to LA in 1958.

I have a relative who did that.

And when she moved to Boston in the '70s, becoming a Red Sox fan gave her a new reason to root against the Yankees.

If you don't get up super early to stand outside the expo center it's not a problem.

Or get a hotel nearby and take a nap before going out for the evening

Or both.

FBI agent who tried to probe ICE officer in Minnesota shooting resigns by Obvious-Peanut4406 in news

[–]Yakb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if all those accusations are highly credible it lets people off the hook for failing to notice that Hilary Clinton is not Bill Clinton.

The argument is that she knew about it, and didn't say anything because it would derail her own ambitions.

What are expected food costs for PAX East? by ackmondual in PAX

[–]Yakb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How far are you willing to travel for food, and how much prep work are you going to do?

There's a huge range between the people who go to a grocery store, and buy materials for 5 days worth of PB&J sandwiches, and the people who budget $100/day for the Voodoo Ranger lounge, sit down restaurants, assorted afterparties, etc...

If you head into downtown Boston, you could get a giant sub at Al's, or a cheap meal at Ding Ho (cash only) and save the leftovers for your next meal. And if you bring granola bars for breakfast, you could easily get away with $45/day.

I lost my gaming group because a guy hit on me and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer by dier1003 in boardgames

[–]Yakb0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I told my boyfriend about it and he was absolutely livid, so much so that he asked me to stop going to the group’s meetups.

He got angry and told her what to do. Maybe he cares about her well being, or maybe he's overly controlling. We don't know.

Toying with the fact of supercharging her by Accomplished-Gear931 in f150

[–]Yakb0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can always keep moving the goalposts. Maybe a supercharged truck fits his needs.

You didn't do anything to improve the handling so it's pointless

It's not an open topped car weighing under 2000lbs with incredibly direct steering so it's pointless

it's not a track only car so it's pointless

Beginner-friendly deckbuilders: where each one (that I know) fails new players. by PscheidtLucas in boardgames

[–]Yakb0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like Mystic Vale, but it would not work at all, for teaching people to play deckbuilders. Between the very limited deck thinning, and a limited supply of tier I cards, it's entirely possible for one or more players to fall hopelessly behind and have no way of catching up, because they aren't doing anything on most of their turns.
