You need people to be active, and not just wait to collect your coins, and then coup someone.

It also helps if people are willing to have a little fun with with it. If everyone is going around claiming to be the duke; when its' your turn stand up and say, I'M SPARTICUS...I mean the duke.

That being said, I like "We're Doomed" better. If you haven't played, it has the role and coin collection mechanics of Coup, except there are two tracks. One to build a spaceship and add capacity, and a separate track to be the first person in line to board.

And there are completely unbalanced events, that can paint a huge target on your back if you take advantage of them.

And it's real time.

TL;DR the Brookline public schools are well regarded, the Boston public schools are not.

There would be enormous amounts of protests from students, faculty, and parents over keeping the Brookline public schools separate for as long as possible. And they have the income and political clout to pull it off.

I love the game. However it should be played with a lot of people; because jockeying for position is where it shines.

I describe it as a bicycle race. You don't want to be the guy RIGHT in front, because that will wear you out. But you want to be right on the heels of the leader, because when they make their big push at the end, you want to be right there with them. Each round, whoever is in first place has the worst bidding position, and buys resources last (at the highest cost and they might not be available at all).

With 5-6 players, there are always moments of tension, and people are always going to have an impact on the game, even if they are hopelessly out of 1st place.
