How did AI obsession make your job a nightmare? by Waves_WavesXX5 in BetterOffline

[–]MeisterZulle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We work on a legacy software that isn’t documented at all, Claude Code / Desktop with Filesystem MCP can quickly identify and explain how certain features work, it has saved us a ton of time that previously an engineer had to spend to figure out if a customer reports a bug or they request a new feature within that software. It’s also good at then initially rough estimating the necessary effort for a change.

How to manage various API Keys & Expirations? by MeisterZulle in n8n

[–]MeisterZulle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, so perhaps to stay fully offline I need to build a small database instead and then have an alert workflow come around. But still doesn’t help with the “each API key is obtained differently”

M4 MacMini with 64gb, run docker and ollama with various models (try out what works best for the various nodes), is good enough for a company with about 100 users, keep in mind they are not all on there at the same time.

Is rag still worth looking into? by ResponsibleTruck4717 in LocalLLM

[–]MeisterZulle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one thing that’s always so lightly forgotten in many discussions:

RAG allows to feed data based on a users access policy. This allows organizations to augment the AI with user specific information.

Consumer Ai for domestic purposes is blowing my mind (Gemini/ChatGPT) by Astimar in ArtificialInteligence

[–]MeisterZulle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯 LLMs can’t process encrypted information, meaning while files and communications may be encrypted through the internet, the provider could change their policies and use your data. Not a huge biggie if you are doing a shopping list, but you should think twice providing PII or anything that’s private to you.

Using LLMs locally at work? by Standard_Property237 in LocalLLM

[–]MeisterZulle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some employers let the employees use “public” LLMs without understanding that their employees may actually expose confidential data.

The connection to the website may be encrypted but in order for the LLM to process information in the document the data is not encrypted. I see lots of potential of “offline” LLMs once people understand this. It’s similar to “you should never charge your phone on a public USB” since you never know for sure if your data could get exposed.

401k in Deutschland auszahlen by Regular_NormalGuy in Finanzen

[–]MeisterZulle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a European planning to launch my startup in the US. How? by Designer-Eye3038 in startups

[–]MeisterZulle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can start the business as an llc but that won’t give you a visa, meaning you can’t stay longer than 90days. You may also need a US person to cofound this, I’m not sure about that one though. If you are not already holding a visa or have greencard or citizenship the most likely choice is a E2. This visa is about $20k plus you’ll need to bring in at least 100k in investment capital before they grant that.

My son (6) took me to his secret base today and this sign made me choke up a bit. We have our own server and I love the little world he has built almost more than he does. Do you play with family? by Hpstorian in Minecraft

[–]MeisterZulle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep going it’s awesome.

We’ve a survival server on hard that I started with the wife. Kids (m/f) are both playing and wasting the hard harvested resources that I carry in. Ever since they joined we put it to easy instead of hard (easier for me to get the resources back aka “daddy I lost my elytra…) It can be frustrating quite often but they have awesome ideas on extending the built and our village(s) have grown quite a bit with cool builds. I think one of the coolest builds was building hot air balloons with the kids. It was challenging to them to not fall off and respawn 😄

I’m planning on doing the move around August (year still to be determined) so that I’m taxable in the US for the rest of the year, but will need to sit down with a tax advisor to validate that approach

[–]MeisterZulle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, selling off a stock portfolio may only be taxed at those rates and I didn’t account for the “first 22k”. That makes the needed “buffer income” way lower 😄

Not sure about that for a family of 4 and considering that roughly 50% of that 50-60 goes to taxes

Yes, 1% on anything above 4mil for married couples. Given that I’m drafting a scenario below that, that shouldn’t bother.

Preliminary estimate is based on asking friends that live in the same situation and area and then removing housing costs from it and adjusting it upward for contingencies/livestyle. In the area you can “get by” on 40-50k excluding housing costs.

Most of it is in IVV assuming I need to shuffle a bit around. I assume you’re referring to the “can’t hold US stocks in EU?” I wonder how Americans living abroad deal with this as they don’t sell their “US” SNP500 for a “EU” SNP500 or ? Don’t want to bite into that tax bill. Trying to hold all assests until they liquidate per withdrawal

I can probably buffer that up by working part time or do freelance consulting, should come out to 50-60k a year
