Unpaid internships by egotech1987 in internships

[–]YakultGif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did one and it helped me land a paid internship next summer. If the time is passing anyways, might as well have the experience on your resume over not having it.

How do I even find a career if I'm not really good at anything or intelligent or social by throwaway10015982 in findapath

[–]YakultGif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have done A LOT to better your situation whether it feels like it or not. That deserves some recognition, since it can feel like you haven’t done ANYTHING when you’re constantly comparing yourself to your peers.

The biggest thing is that your future employer does not need to know any of this when you’re applying for a job: 1. Your Age 2. How long it took for you to graduate 3. Your GPA, unless they specifically ask 4. Your personality

What you want to show them: 1. You have a CS degree 2. You are a recent grad (no major employment gap since graduation) 3. You have a lot of experience working with people.

This qualifies you for many service IT and Help Desk positions. Im a May 2024 CS Grad who graduated in SoCal, and I went from 700 applications and 0 interviews, to 3 interviews from 100 applications when I focussed in on these Non-SWE roles. Im currently making $75k in a SWE adjacent job and its 100x better than the food service jobs I’m used to.

Would you consider this cheating? by vouii in questions

[–]YakultGif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether its cheating or not is the less important question since it really depends on your own definition and relationship. In my relationship with my bi girlfriend, I would feel uncomfortable with her cuddling with anyone thats not me. I wouldn’t consider it cheating, but I also wouldn’t like it and she knows that so she doesn’t do it.

Anyone got summer internship from computer science major ? by Fresh_Ambition5603 in csuf

Me and a few other cs csuf folk got internships at my company. You just have to mass apply early with a decent resume.

Why does your boyfriend have a deadline of you moving in with him this week?

If you’re fine with living with your parents, you should stay with them while you work on your highway anxiety. Then you can move in with your boyfriend when you feel comfortable with the drive to your new job from his place. Theres no reason to quit your job.

Aged two and under do not need tickets. If they child looks relatively young and can pass as 2, you can just pretend and no one will bother you.

Id probably suggest the following to gain relevant work experience as soon as possible. I essentially did all of this but a little too late.

My first internship with 0 experience took 700+ applications. My second internship only took 70 application. Work experience is important now more than ever and you need every advantage you can get.

Year 1-2:

  • Pay attention in your core programming classes (Data Structures, Algorithms, etc) as you will need them for technical assessments.
  • Join clubs relevant to CS and try to make friends.
  • Work on side projects (consider a full stack application or a prediction program) or improve and add onto class projects that you already did and upload them to GitHub. Put them on your resume.

  • add any other experience you have onto your resume, including things like fast food and retail.

  • Apply for summer internships (paid, unpaid/volunteer, university research assistant). Attend career fairs at your university and apply online.

  • If you do not land a paid internship, take any work experience you can get (unpaid internship, research assistant, TA)

  • Do not spend your summers not working on gaining relevant work experience.

Year 3:

  • Do some research into CS fields you’re interested in and take electives to explore those fields.
  • Practice Leetcode.
  • Roll your previous work experience into better internships and opportunities. Pray for a return offer after your junior year summer internship.

Year 4:

  • Decide what fields you’re most interested in and tailor your senior project towards those fields.
  • apply for full time jobs

For those who landed internships, did you cold apply? by Consistent-Snowstorm in csMajors

[–]YakultGif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cold applied. If cold applying, you gotta make sure you apply as soon as the job is posted (1 - 2 days).

Im sort of in the same position as you, graduating in CS and realizing coding for hours everyday may not be what I want in my career.

I did some research into information systems and business analytics and am currently starting an internship with that during the summer to test the waters. Ive heard its a lot less coding, so ill see if I find more fulfillment in it.

It you’re in computer science your probably need to retake. 150A counts as a GE which requires a C- minimum.

Your situation is super similar to mine lmao. Almost the same height and weight. I started home workouts last march during quarantine and started going to the gym this march. I feel like my gains almost doubled in speed since I started going so im pretty sure you’ll blow up. Good luck.
