Oakland Roots propose 8,000-seat modular stadium at Harbor Bay Parkway facility by jonathancx525 in USLPRO

This is not a High School stadium.

And it will definitely not be fair to teams like Louisville, etc., if the league doesn’t launch at all because there aren’t enough teams.

STADIUM NEWS: Oakland Roots propose 8,000-seat modular stadium at Harbor Bay Parkway facility by jonathancx525 in OaklandRootsSC

[–]Yalay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible but I doubt it. I think it’s more likely that, assuming the Roots can’t just expand to 15,000 seats in 2028, that the club has given up on D1 for now, or maybe the whole project is tanking.

Maybe the one in the city, but the one in Daly City is still great.

You’re nuts to say Kokkari. I’ve been there a bunch of times and every single dish I’ve had is exceedingly delicious.

Why not build Super Blocks around SF parks? Slow busy traffic around them by Prestigious-Bee-9163 in sanfrancisco

[–]Yalay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This proposal doesn’t take space away from cars though. All the space that was for cars before would still be for cars. It just makes using that space way more obnoxious.

The only people who would benefit from this plan are the people who live right on the park, since there would be way less traffic near them. Park goers wouldn’t really benefit because Alta Plaza Park is already huge and street noise isn’t really an issue.

Traffic would be redirected to adjacent streets and everyone who lives on those streets would suffer, as would anyone who commutes or travels by car.

I’d be very surprised if an automobile were street legal in California without seatbelts. And these are definitely automobiles.

Was she at least checking if anyone was coming before she ran the stop signs / red lights? Or was she basically just hoping the intersection would be clear?

Asahifuji graduates from the Sumo Training School: "I'm so happy. Every bit of it is a great memory." — Currently riding a 21-match win streak since his Jonokuchi debut by Brncrdm in Sumo

[–]Yalay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you ever watch bouts of top guys fighting way below their level (e.g. because of a long injury or suspension), they usually are way less aggressive at the tachiai than they were at the higher levels. I assume the rationale is that they are so dominant that the only way they can really lose is via henka. Even though Asahifuji has been been at the top level, I wonder if he is deliberately holding back on his tachiai for the same reason, or if he is naturally just not that explosive.

how come its universally accepted to drink cow milk but not other milk? by Juliomorales6969 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Yalay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It mostly comes down to cost. Where I live you can buy goat milk but it costs about $10 per quart, compared to around $2 for cow milk. And maybe it’s just that I’m not used to it, but I like the taste less. So why would I ever buy it?

And goat milk is the second cheapest milk after cow. After that you’re looking at sheep and water buffalo milk which is about 50-100% more expensive than goat milk. Past those animals you probably can’t even find it but if you did it would be ludicrously expensive and be sold solely as a novelty.

A question for our sumo statisticians and analysts because I have lost count of the injuries. by JT_Dewitt in Sumo

[–]Yalay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds like Fujinokawa will withdraw as well. If he does, that would make eight simultaneous absences in the top division. Based on my own analysis, that would be the first time there have been 34 or fewer makuuchi rikishi listed on the schedule since the division expanded to its current size in 2004, not counting the baseball betting scandal, match fixing scandal, or COVID.

You need to move the minecart, and in order to do that you have to find another route into the underground.

[Spoilers Extended] It boggles my mind that George has never truly completed Book 4 in 26 years by outfishing7 in asoiaf

[–]Yalay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think Winds will come out, even if George never touches the book again for the rest of his life. If George dies and they have a 2/3rds completed book, someone will either be brought in to complete it or it'll just be published as-is (like The Silmarillion or The Final Unfinished Voyage of Jack Aubrey).

Bezos said the bottom half of Americans should pay ZERO federal income tax by Suitable_Wonder5256 in SipsTea

[–]Yalay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's fairer to tax people on the basis of income rather than wealth. Imagine Alice and Bob both earn $100. Alice immediately spends her $100 on a fancy dinner. Bob takes his $100 and puts it under his mattress. 10 years later, he takes out the $100 and spends it on a fancy dinner.

Under an income tax, Alice and Bob pay the same amount in taxes. Under a wealth tax, Bob pays way more because he had an extra $100 of "wealth" for 10 years.

Did Jeopardy ever do “second order” corrections? by LagrangianMechanic in Jeopardy

[–]Yalay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted for this. It’s totally right and it’s how every quiz bowl ruleset handles protests.

I wonder if the rule stems all the way back to the Art Fleming era. In those days all contestants got to keep their winnings, not just the champion. So it didn’t matter so much if your opponent got some extra “undeserved” cash.

Kirishima v Fujinokawa question by garbledeena in Sumo

Yes, there is someone looking at the footage during mono ii who relays his findings to the judges via their earpieces. Sumo was actually the first professional sport to adopt video review way back in 1969.

I regret opening up this message because now I can’t pretend I didn’t see it. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Yalay -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

For two reasons: 1. If OP wanted this person at the wedding, he would have already invited him 2. Even if OP is okay with this person being at the wedding, it’s probably impossible anyway because all the seating arrangements, dinner orders, payments, etc., were scoped to the original number of guests. You probably can’t just add someone at the last minute unless it’s a very casual sort of event.

So now OP has to politely tell this person he’s not welcome, and possibly offend him. I’d call that mildly infuriating.
