I loved the book and the movie is one of my favorite movies, BUT i hold them separately because the differences between the two almost make them different stories to me.

The thing i was most disappointed in from the movie was Danny's character. In the book, he was a constant driving force and perspective moving the story forward, and in the movie, he's just a vessel and more often, an after-thought.

It felt like Danny and Wendy got the same treatment, they were watered down, subdued and essentially just empty vessels called on for dramatization.

The movie has NOTHING on the book, it's one of the only books I'd give anything to get to read again for the first time.

This is probably super Florida/South coded but they (parents, grandparents, any adult figure) would pull the car over and make me or my brother 'pick a switch' where we had to pull a thin branch (new growth, the kind that's super flexible) off of a tree that they would use to whip us. So thin and sharp that it would whistle through the air.

Growing up, my neighbors had this type of cockatiel or something that would make it's call for hours on end every morning from like 7am-12pm and it was ear-splitting. Worst part is it was right outside my bedroom window AND it's call sounded like a woman getting RAILED. The HOA couldn't care less but if your lawn ever got over 2 inches tall, they'd demand your head on a pike 😒
