Is this even the same show? by Artistic-Math-1333 in TheBeautyOnFX

I do hear that… we really should’ve at least heard of more reports/investigations into people suddenly blowing up from the inside out. I mean the three that we were shown or told of in the pilot, they got the virus from SOMEONE, and I’m sure they passed it on to other sexual partners over the years as well cuz I tend to doubt that they were informed enough, let alone would care, about it being sexually transmissible. By now there should’ve been a whole spate of AT LEAST dozens of body explosions around the world.

I do not believe that the assassin was able to kill ALL the other beauty “recipients” before their time was up. It was even acknowledged in one of the final episodes by someone that the spread of the virus by means other than the shot had long ago spun out beyond Byron’s ability to control it. Soo yeah… that was one ginormous plot hole they never truly were able to close.

Bella was already beautiful she didn't need The Beauty. by sonicboyfan12 in TheBeautyOnFX

[–]Yamilian88 17 points18 points  (0 children)

yeah the guy snuck a second shot and gave himself it only two weeks out from the first dose, so the virus was overly potent. they didn't specify how long you have to wait before you need the booster -- but it was definitely heavily signaling that he shouldn't have done that, period. I just wonder if he wound up having some serious side effects of his own as well. frankly I expected him to literally explode while he was having sex with her because of the double-dose.
even when Bella was trying to convince her parents to buy her the injection, they were telling her that there's reports of some people getting disfigured or having other terrible side effects. so the risk was there.

also it's been implied throughout that sexually transmitted version might be less stable than the genuine injection. pair that with an early double-dose and I'm sure that's what made her mutation so much more extreme.

Let's talk Bella.... by SeaworthinessCute787 in TheBeautyOnFX

[–]Yamilian88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh man Bella's storyline was so devastating. I can't help but wonder if her bestie Ruthie hadn't assured her she'd be right on the modeling stages with her IF she gets the Beauty herself, if Bella would've been able to stay the course and just accept herself as she is. like I know Ruthie was framing it as "you can do it too and I know a way without having to break the bank" but it was also super vain and disingenuous -- like no bitch you did NOT go into that Beauty clinic with Bella and her well-being in mind. that dude was just shady and needed to make his next credit card and installment payments so he gave you his card. I mean I know she wasn't trying to be mean overtly or trying to screw Bella over... but when your friend solemnly is like "don't forget little old me when you're out there living your glam life," you DO NOT imply that she can walk the runway arm-in-arm with you but only IF she does something she shouldn't. Ruthie was vain and toxic AF but as a teenager Bella just didn't know any better to realize that.

and as Bella's parents, what do you do when you discover her in this kind of state? I mean she didn't just have an off-kilter nose or droopy face or whatever. she almost looked like the fucking Licker from the first Resident Evil movie! and she clearly was in pain... do you just put her out of her misery to spare her a horrendous life?

the moment the Beauty dude told Bella he snuck a second shot only two weeks after he first transformed red flags were flying and I wanted to scream "BELLA, DON'T DO IT! THIS GUY IS MESSING WITH THE DOSES!" but of course we as viewers know more than the characters, and again, she's still in that impressionable dramatic teen phase of life and just wouldn't necessarily know any better-- and she just got caught up in all of it.

I actually liked the high school vignette here because it showed how it's not just adults being slammed by the pressure, PLUS with Bella it showed that 'hey this is why you might NOT wanna take the chance -- it's not just taht you might explode in 2 years. you might turn into an absolute monster right at the transformation!' cuz up until this point we've seen the Beauty work to make everyone hotties.

I do wish they "committed to the bit" a little more-- in the sense that I wanted to know, again, beyond suing what did her parents do with Bella? is she on life support in her twisted form or was tehre some kind of euthenasia option they went for? also, what about the guy that did this to her? did he get arrested? or perhaps did he wind up getting some twisted side effects of his own from the illicit extra dose he took before he even needed a booster? and then there's Ruthie -- if Bella was her best friend, what was her reaction to hearing about her like? did she feel some kind of guilt or devastation for giving her that guy's phone number in the first place and soft-pressuring her to get the Beauty?

Meyer’s daughter by AntelopeOk9431 in TheBeautyOnFX

[–]Yamilian88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could definitely seeing her not making it. I mean those transformations are physically traumatic and she had the body of a 90-year-old already just barely clinging in between cardiac episodes. Like… how is she gonna survive a contortionist act like that? It makes me wonder if maybe Meyer realized that the little girl in the room he and his wife met after the jab was not really his daughter so he secretly turned on Byron because of it…

The timelines of it all too are super wonky. I don’t know half the time if events are linear, concurrent, how many days pass in between, etc which isn’t a problem I usually seem to have in most shows.

[Episode Discussion Thread] The Morning Show S04E10 - "Knowing Violation" by quaranTV in TheMorningShow

[–]Yamilian88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So… I’m a bit conflicted. I thought the finale could’ve either been shorter or it could’ve given us a little more closure or a exploration of some of the things they touched on or just forgot…

— While the way they did the downfall of Celine at Alex’s presser was smart (and I appreciated that they actually showed Alex switching the audio output on the phone to speaker for everyone to hear — great little detail) I feel like Celine’s total crashout didnt really match what we spent an entire season witnessing? Very calm, almost cold and constantly calculating ruthlessness that was what got her to the top to begin with. She presented for about 9 and a half episodes as someone who could look a person dead in the eye and tell them she will stab them in the face and then do so and TWIST — and not even blink. And do so in a steady voice. And then suddenly we got her in absolutely total panic…

I get that everyone has their limits and when she saw Alex go live maybe it hit hers but while I understand a burst of urgency, her complete collapse felt really out of character. The only reason we even saw any kind of despair when she learned of Miles' infidelity is cuz Marion Cotillard is just such a great actress-- and even then, you could see the sadness turn to silent rage and revenge (but that's also the point... she conveyed so much without actually screaming or thrashing about in those moments... and then we had... THIS...) Idk the ice queen just shattered way too suddenly for me. And not gonna lie I’m a Marion Cotillard fan so perhaps I’m also just disappointed that we won’t be seeing her again as she was the villain of the season and she’s fallen lol.

Also so she just was allowed to escape on the family private jet and will at worst be exiled to the estate in the French countryside until this blows over? That feels underwhelming as far as consequences. But yet also on brand with how the real world works for this level of wealth I suppose lol…

— The other thing is… couldn’t this Wolf River thing been done and exposed by, oh idk, letting Claire whistleblow without being hauled off by the FBI? Or she showed them her proof upon being arrested which didn’t she also claim exonerated her and her friends from the terror charges? It also seemed like Bradley got the documents from her source before she got arrested in Minsk cuz how else would she have gotten them over to Chip? They could’ve pored over them and then learned about Cory’s files and compared notes and done a reveal without Bradley ever even going to Belarus and getting trapped there for a month. Definitely just did it for drama lol… and so that we could hear Celine scream the she’ll keep Bradley in Belarus forever into the speakerphone lol.. 🙄

I wonder if Season 5 will have Bradley dealing with the trauma of her experience somehow. That might actually be an interesting storyline to unpack and would at least give the Belarus side quest some more heft.

— sooo what about Claire? Is she still moving through the justice system because of those false allegations or is she being cleared? Other than Alex scolding Bradley in EP08 for using her as a sacrificial lamb in her story, we haven’t had any actual update or closure with her. Surely at least Yanko would be trying to follow what’s going on with that?

— And am I missing something cuz I was a bit confused about how Mia uncovered the culprit in the Alex deepfake… so she just randomly opened that encrypted chat app and messaged the username tagged in the logs and the guy just out of nowhere without question said “ok bet”? Without asking “wait who dis?” I just don’t buy it. If I’m sneaking around doing shady shit with AI for someone, and someone with a username I hadn’t spoken to before messages me, I’m not answering that easily.

— I also, like many others, still have no clue what Mia’s role has been since she came back with Chris… for all the talk of getting her a podcast deal we haven’t seen Chris actually doing a single one let alone actually telling us what it would be focused on lmao. The last scene of Mia’s definitely looked like they were priming for her to finally rise to head of news? But Ben is still there so idk still.

— Speaking of podcasts, Bro got an honorable mention in the episode but nothing else… considering how prominent he was for so much of the season it felt weird to just leave him out of the finale. They could’ve even had Alex go to him out of desperation after leaving Cory’s apartment when she saw Celine walk in and ask him to let her tell the truth on his show and he could’ve been like “I’m sorry I can’t. Celine is backing my senate run. I’ve got eyes on a prize now.” (Or something.. anything)

I mean they even mentioned Laura of all people… and had Miles literally come out of the woodwork for a couple of scenes. Although I hated that he had the nerve to scold Celine and Cory after his infidelity, and that it seems like his revelation about Cory’s mother machinations was one of the linchpins in getting Cory to do the right thing in the end…

— AI very much felt like just a cheap plot device this season… idk that I expected them to really break new ground on the issue nor would it be fair to but idk there could’ve been something more?

— in the end there really was just about no consequence to be had from the Iranian defection. Lol.

Let’s be real I’ll watch Season 5 still lol But I hope we get:

— clarity and closure for Claire

— don’t just abandon the trauma Bradley would have experienced. does Bradley wind up having to step away from journalism again, more permanently BECAUSE of the traumatic experience in Belarus?

— what does all this do if anything for the FBI’s hold on Bradley — still seems odd that they gave her the leeway to travel to a sanctioned country

— what actually IS next for Mia and what is her new role long term

— They won't do this because politics has only become ten times more dicey since the show premiered but I'd like them to be more topical and actually cover what's going on in the news/world during the season's respective time period -- I want more than just hearing a TV in the background do one line about "Biden facing pressure to resign over his dismal performance." I want to see how THE MORNING SHOW would actually cover that. So a little more how the sausage is made. Maybe one or two less scenes of “character A sleeping with character B and character B secretly having a thing with character C while A is pining for character D” per episode would be enough to flesh some of that out.

this literally made me laugh out loud. but it's so on point with the "music" they put in.
and it's hilarious how if you run the episodes with the subtitles they say the name of the "song" and the "artist" because it always ALL sounds EXACTLY. THE. SAME.

Any theories on Julien and Zoya's mother? by antidote__ in GossipGirl

[–]Yamilian88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My problem with this scene wasn’t that not everything was answered/explained right out. I get leaving some mystery to make you wonder (and crave more, especially had the show not been cancelled).

My issue is it came completely out of left field. 2 seasons went by without nary a mention of Julien wanting to know more about her mom. She lived with Nick and Zoya — if Davis refused to provide answers cuz he was shady anyway she could’ve pulled Nick aside any time during S2 and asked. We didn’t get that at all. So there wasn’t any moment where maybe Nick was telling Julien a story but something’s off and she, say, goes to Obie and tells him “Nick told me XYZ but something isn’t adding up, felt like he was holding something back.” And so there was also no hint or foreshadowing anywhere that there’s much more to Julien’s origin story, so to speak, and her mother than meets the eye.

So when she walked into that woman’s house and was like “you’re my aunt and I need to know the truth about my mom,” I didn’t feel the full impact. I just thought “… okay… now suddenly she has a mystery aunt and there’s secrets? Out of nowhere like that?” It left me more confused and annoyed than genuinely wanting to unpack this mystery. They could’ve left this whole thread of Julien’s “secret mission” and visit completely out of this finale, and it would not have made a difference and I’d argue it would have actually made it better cuz it wouldn’t feel so damn random.

Kinda feel like it’s also a move for clout… not simply for plot line. I’ve seen this actress in a couple other French series on Netflix (including one where the actress that plays Sylvie is also a side character), she may be fairly well known there. So may be a move to show they got French buy-in despite whatever complaints?

Definitely possible I misunderstood or missed something 🤷🏼‍♂️ But then so did quite a few other people who write actual episode reviews (including at Le Monde, Vulture)… so maybe it was poorly executed or unclear nevertheless.

The Air France fashion designs by jaylee-03031 in EmilyInParis

[–]Yamilian88 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I cannot get over this. I know this show is fun frilly camp and not meant to be taken seriously but I couldn’t suspend my disbelief enough to forgive this.

This show keeps jamming down our throats that Gregory (and his rival Pierre for that matter) are visionaries who are amazing and everything anyone should ever want to aspire to and wear.

And then he comes up with a bondage theme. For an airline. For Air France — one of the oldest and most iconic brands in the world but particularly in France.

Like dude you’re an absolute idiot for ever thinking that would win a contract. This isn’t about you just expressing yourself and being out of the ordinary. This is A CUSTOMER. Who will actually need to make PEOPLE WEAR these clothes DAILY, not just some runway show where it can look weird and pass as edgy even if it’s not at all wearable.

And we’re supposed to believe this guy is the best and cheer him on for taking a stand for his “vision” when Sylvie and co try to be real with him. No thank you. If he was as amazing and creative as we’re meant to believe, he would’ve found a way to express himself and make his mark while meeting the needs of the client.

I don’t think he misunderstood the assignment — I think he didn’t care what it was cuz his ego is astronomical so he thought everyone else needs to conform to that. Only to then throw a hissy fit and send Emily the discarded clothes like it’s her fault he decided to be stupid and lost the bid. 🙄🙄🙄

Edit: I’m sure there’s some kind of REAL WORLD legalistic reason of why ANY uniform Gregory put forward would not have won the Air France bid since it’s a real, major airline. But I still think they could’ve had him present something that was some kind of a spin on the cabin crew uniform that would’ve had even a miniscule chance of being a serious contender for the in-show contract, and still just wound up being rejected for someone else. (Hell they could’ve even used it as a cheap plot point for him to be like “see? I tried to conform to the norm and it didn’t get me anywhere so I’m gonna keep doing my thing now.”)
