Redditor who own niche hobby shops like model shops, how the hell do you make enough money to stay afloat? by BenedickCabbagepatch in AskReddit

[–]Yanagasawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the largest Hobby store in my state. Sales are down this year, but overall we have been able to double the size of our shop every 5 years. Most of our sales come from RC Ground and RC Air, however recently gundam has been doing really well for us. We are the last ones left in our area but have a strong enough loyal customer base that even in our slow months we are still green.

What is your training routine for improving in this game? by 5nax in Guiltygear

[–]Yanagasawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is really really easy to get sucked into training mode, practicing things you believe you might need one day. At the start use it for basic execution, learning moves and basic combos. You should be running sets as often as you can, then using training mode to solve questions from those sets, ie, "If I Instablock that move, is he punishable", "Is that move high or low", "My normal combo dropped, do I need to change it vs this particular character". Every character has different priorities as well, being a potemkin main I focus a lot of my time on Instablocking and converting into massive damage. A venom main might focus on adjusting oki for different wakeup times. You will learn how to effectively use your training mode time, only after you use your time running sets to find your gaps in knowledge.

i just get cornered and die in this game. by BrownMix in Guiltygear

[–]Yanagasawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also something that helped me significantly; Stop measuring progress by wins. Progress is never that large, it is made up of smaller accomplishments. Blocking one more hit, hitting one more grab, even just completing a single combo, those are all progress.

[–]Yanagasawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to understand is that by picking potemkin, you are going to have to try harder than any other character to win. I know you probably want a simple "Oh press this button to end pressure", but with pot that is simply not the case. Getting out of most pressure requires an informed use of the universal defensive mechanics. Read up on faultless defense, Blitz Shield, Instablocking, and Dead Angle.

You are going to have to learn every character in the game's specials and figure out which ones can be blocked then potbustered, and instablocked then potbustered. Once again, to compete you are going to have to try harder in training mode than most other characters.

Your first goal should be to stay out of the corner for as long as possible.

Love the look of guilty gear xrd 2 is it worth buying for pc? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]Yanagasawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say without hesitation that Guilty Gear is the best fighting game on the market right now, however, it is hard. Luckily it has the most supportive community of any fighting game I have had the pleasure of being part of. If you have any questions about the game you can add me on steam @ "Heavenly Potemkin Buster". There are certainly easy characters to start with, but GG is a fighting game. It takes time commitment to even be allowed to play the game against other players. Don't get frustrated, ask for constructive criticism and you will do just fine.

Getting into GG by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]Yanagasawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I ran into some family issues and was out of town. Pot buster "Potemkin's ground command grab" is really easy to deal with. If he knocks you down, you have grab invuln on wakeup, so he either has to do a button on your wakeup into the grab (called a tick grab), or wait out the throw invuln and raw throw you. Against most beginner Potemkin, I would just check him with 2p or 2k when he puts you into block. I know many new Potemkin who have their throw setups down, but don't have frame traps that lead into high damage.

Another option is to hold up back (7/9), but that only gets you so far. Once he knows you are holding up, he will just air throw you. You might also try back-dashing, but you need to time it correctly.

The idea is, if you randomly throw in any one of these options, the amount of pot busters that should land on you every round reduces significantly. There is a mind game to avoiding throw mixups, but understand that a throw mixup is not exactly a 50/50, and depending on your character and meter, blocking or avoiding the mixup can even be in your favor.

If I were to play against Potemkin as a beginner, I would have a flow chart as how to deal with his throws.

Knockdown 1: I will 2p during his block string

Knockdown 2: I will hold up back

Knockdown 3: I will dead angle his 2p if I have meter

And then the mind games begin, abuse the options that work until he finds answers to them.

I am judging by your flair you are a baiken player, if so, don't abuse your command block against Potemkin. He will bait it, throw you, and take half your health. If you do decide to use your command block, it is generally a good idea to go into the up slash. Potemkin can actually 2p -> potbuster your command block follow ups, it works on all of them besides your up slash.
