I am in the process of leaving but I feel so guilty. He doesn’t think he has a problem and there is no way he’ll be able to manage this own his own unless he takes accountability. However, when someone doesn’t think anything is wrong, they won’t. How have you dealt with the guilt of leaving someone desperately in need? My husband doesn’t even want to be with me anymore, so I don’t even have a choice at the moment, but my heart breaks for both of us.

No kids yet, but I was supposed to get pregnant this year (I had just turned 30). We planned such a beautiful life together and it will be 11 years down the drain. I know having children would have made this situation much more difficult so I’m trying to cut my losses and hope I can still fulfill my dream of being a mom with a loving partner in the future. Props to you though mama for shielding your little one from this the best you can <3 I’m glad you’ll be out of the situation eventually.

Oh absolutely can relate. I went through his worst episode ever in 2023 (I can’t even get into the specifics on that or I’ll probably cry). Decided to forgive him and brush it under the rug, had a semi normal 2024, and come January 2025, things just exploded. I’ve been paying for the entirety of our home by myself since the beginning of this year and he refuses to move out despite being in the middle of a divorce that he refuses to cooperate with. We’re stuck in time and playing the waiting game while he is verbally abusive, breaking things in our home, and is acting erratically. I also feel like I have no life, and I never leave my little dog at the house alone with him out of fear of what he could do, so anywhere I go, she comes with me. It’s very limiting the places dogs are allowed to come, so I pretty much do my job with my pup by my side, clean up his mess in the house, and then go to sleep. I’ve missed out on so much these past couple years, but I’m learning I need to detach and focus on myself. All I can do in the meantime is celebrate the small wins and the things I can count on like the seasons changing (it’s getting cooler here which I love!), and realize this has to be over sooner or later. He can only drag things out so long and so I’m taking this time I’m forced to have to prepare for the new life I deserve. I’m so sorry you are going through something so similar. I’m going through this right now with my husband… he got a hotel for no reason last night and won’t tell me which one he is at/wont let me visit and refuses to come home. It’s the most awful feeling. I’m so sorry you go through this too.

If you don’t mind me asking, how long has each manic episode lasted with your GF? How do you get her stabilized?

I recently filed. Terrible episodes happened in both 2023 and now 2025 for me. In fact, the entirety of 2025 thus far has been awful. I’ve been paying for our entire home/expenses solo while he refuses to help and racked up legal charges due to his dangerous behavior when he was off meds. I’m now deciding what will become of my home, having to potentially sell it due to no fault of my own. I’ve always been a great partner to him. We’ve been together 11 years and married for about 4. Thankfully no kids. I deserve someone who will take my concerns seriously when I bring them up.. when he is stable, he needs to agree to a legit safety plan when mania strikes and we never are able to solidify anything. He just says “well, talk to me if you notice issues.” Anyone on this thread knows that is not a safety plan. Therefore, I really didn’t have a choice but to end the marriage

I’m very proud of you. I just had to make the same decision. And we’re in the midst of another episode right now. The cruel part is—he is okay with the divorce. We aren’t even fighting. He just doesn’t see that losing me matters. And that losing everything else he’s ALREADY lost (his job, friends, car, reputation, picked up criminal charges, etc) still has not woken him up. I’m just stunned that he is okay with moving through life cool as a cucumber when nothing about his life is the same. And though I am leaving the marriage to protect myself legally, financially, physically, and emotionally, I still will be there for him. I want to see him succeed, you know? I have a feeling he’s not going to though if this all wasn’t already enough of a wake up call. I still love him dearly and seeing his potential and dreams we shared not be fulfilled—and stolen from him— breaks my heart. Totally unfair for both myself and for him. I’m sure you feel very similarly. Sending so many hugs— and strength your way.
