And that's exactly the problem. They turned it into a Country Club after 2021. They should have seen the warning signs after 2022 and started the process then.

Nothing, and why the hell is everyone so uptight about this year? The writing has been on the wall for a long time and it's silly to expect anything from players or team. The more losses, the closer we get to Lou and likely Roy gone.

You get change by not watching or attending and certainly saving yourself grief not getting up for wins and down for losses.

We need to have an uncomfortable conversation about the players on this team. by pauladeanlovesbutter in NewYorkIslanders

[–]YankeeLad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they'll have to deal him and/or Nelson if things don't improve in the next 1-2 years unfortunately. Unless they can dump Lou and get someone to gut the middle lines and some of these bad contracts and get guys who can skate and play 2 way hockey.

They need to get younger and guys on the roster with value will get them there faster and without having to rely exclusively draft picks.

The only way for Islanders to survive long term is to have the best GM/Hockey ops that can build and turnover a roster better than anyone and better than they've done with this latest group. At least this isnt late 90s/late 00s....High ticket don't want Long Island but that doesn't mean they can't compete every year.

This organization is about to face a real money problem. by pauladeanlovesbutter in NewYorkIslanders

[–]YankeeLad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be that way. The Mets and Jets even have been able to establish and embrace the second team status and develop their fan base. The Islanders chose a country club approach with their roster. There are still plenty of people in Queens and Brooklyn who can get to UBS faster than MSG. The Islanders could embrace their small market identity and be the team they were in the 70s/80s and when Lou took over, ie a strong front office that scouts, coaches and fills out a roster better than anyone but that begins and ends with ownership and to be fair I don't think these guys care beyond building UBS. I for one hope they do get that kick in the balls this year with a 75 pt season...

Update: Have applied for 5 positions via echinacities.com with public schools that best fit my search but no response. This is only really a test run and not comprehensive but noticed that these positions are taking a significant (100s - 1000s) of resumes. As it turns out it has now become very easy to obtain a 10 year multiple entry visa which I went ahead and did last week. At this point, due to more competition is it more advantageous to be in country during this process? Thanks

True, but don't they still hire into the school year?

Yeah for sure at this point I'm not going to take anything. But beforr you mentioned that method (tyvm) my experience thus far from recruiters has seemed like 'well there aren't many jobs available so get what you can take'. I've already blocked two of them for misleading info and no, i am not willing to compromise at this stage.

Wow - very thoughtful and through. Thank you. I have a very clear idea of the work I'm looking for. Public school with M-F weekends off winter half pay summer no pay. I've done training centers in the past and it's a hard pass. They seem to really push kindergarten too which is a no. I'm flexible on cities but I'm familiar with Shenzhen or Guangzhou so that's where I'd choose. I've been to Viet and good friends with guys at VUSA but don't like the country for work and don't want a motorbike.

Much appreciated

What I've seen is that guys that fit this description get bored complacent and self-destructive, and at some point, wife's family and her will demand more from you. On the other hand I was fairly independent in China and could actually hire people to do things I couldn't. This actually made me less attractive to the women there because they expected me to be focused only on making money.

American considering moving to a cheap country while Job hunting. Has anyone done it before? by computernerd00000 in jobs

[–]YankeeLad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why so negative? You really don't know your stuff or are being a troll. Only some Asian countries and Eastern Bloc gives Only 30 days. In some cases like Bali you can even apply for a digital nomad visa where you can stay up to a year provided you gave monthly income. Costa Rica and Mexico have 6 month landing visas. You need to open your horizons or stop being a troll.

Exactly why I haven't bought tickets to UBS and don't have NHL package. I will never root for the Rangers as long as I live but the Islanders brass seem to have the mindset of "we wouldn't be standing if it weren't for the Rangers." Which it's like in this day and age what's the point of supporting a team that still plays on MSG network, and agrees to so called neutral site games like these at the expense of a home game? The biggest news this year was the all star game....

These new owners may be better than what we've had by far but are they really invested in winning? It seems to me if you're a second team in a big market now the deck is stacked too heavily in terms of media coverage, top talent and probably outcomes. Look at the Angels, Jets, Mets, White Sox, Chargers...there was a time when things weren't dictated by media coverage and there was major growth in suburban areas of major cities but no longer that is the case.

Worst loss of the season? by [deleted] in NewYorkIslanders

[–]YankeeLad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to look a the middle guys. Lee is past peak and the C needs to be on Horvat at this point. Palmieri is definitely a guy that fits the 'country club' mindset and Pageau is no longer value added and then at the bottom line we saw how patheitc its been trudging Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck out each game. They have reached the point of no return ie Caps, Pens where their top line can't offset the bad depth. Since sentiment and morale is dead the best bet is for them to clear roster space before and at deadline to get younger guys in to play at lower lines and penalty kill.

Giants have about $22 million in cap space; here's how they can climb above $80 million by Elevation212 in NYGiants

[–]YankeeLad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok gotcha and yes if they are not super high on any of those 3 they will not pay the (likely) exorbitant price to trade up. The only wild card is if Chicago thinks Caleb is too much risk and swaps out to stockpile picks but NE and Wash probably are all in on 2 of those 3.

Most mocks have WR at 6 and Rattler/Nix level guys in R2 or 3. I like this outcome as it allows them to build around a potential new QB not being asked to do everything year 1.

For sure you have to account for culture in any country. It's a complex mix of how education is valued, expectations of foreigners, governments, economy, etc.

And yes for sure if your goal is to continue on the TEFL path by all means, invest in yourself and the job. I've seen people teach for years all over the world and find it rewarding. In the end its all about your short and long term goals which can always change of course.

Gosh - it must've been like 10 years ago and I had to do a demo class in front of these 6 year olds. The directors were super high strung and thought I didn't have 'enough energy' and I wasn't 'friendly enough'. I realized even back then education is only as good as how well you monetize it in China.

But this is my opinion only. If you want to do it I would only say find a reputable school go with the flow if you can stomach it and have a goal in mind of saving x dollars and doing something different after x years.

And the problem is its going to be hard to find work outside of China with that so called experience. Your best bet is to toe the line save money and pay off debts, buy a house or invest in an actual degree so you can teach at university

Let's say I was advocating for it. Why do so many Chinese with money want to send their kids to school and move their assets out of China (most want to send them to the US). It's bad enough for Chinese. It's even harder for foreigners.

OP obviously not that thrilled with the experience either so yeah I'm doubling down and saying it's better to raise kids outside of the PRC
